found a copy finally at an EB games 40 minutes away. the guy working there last night was nice enough to keep it on hold for me while I got out there.
just finished it on easy, but I have a couple 3 stars on a couple songs. probably will work on that soon. so far, it's a whole lot of fun, and some of the songs are pretty challenging for being on easy

I don't understand how so many people are saying they are having such an easy time with this game. I'm having EXTREME difficulties getting very far on the Hard level. I had quite a few failures on the medium level at first, though I've been going back and trying to get 5's on everything in there now, which I can do on most now up until the later songs. But on Hard I'm just incompetent. After all my practicing and 5s on medium level, I finally got through the first set of 5 songs on Hard after many retries, but now I'm stuck in the 2nd set now - specifically on More Than a Feeling. Very frustrating.

I'm with you, I just can't see how I'm ever gonna be able to pass every song on expert. I'm about 20 songs into it on Hard (almost all with 3 star performances), but I'm stuck on a song and not getting much better at it. Still having a lot of fun though.

HOLY CRAP, THIS GAME RULES!
Despite being a huge fan of Frequency, I skipped this game because I already play guitar. Today, my resolve gave out, and I'm a better man for it. Guitar Freaks is officially dead to me.

For passing songs I have a few tips:
1) Practice the up/down motion. It's the only way you can do fast thing sections well. It's also the easiest way to do a lot of those patterns that look like this (viewed sideways and only one note):
xx---xx---xx---
The best way to get better at the up and down motion is to play entire songs (even the slow spread out notes) using the up and down motion.
2) When you're just trying to pass, don't worry about score or getting 5 stars. Save your star power and only use it when you drop in the red, or a difficult solo section is starting.
3) If a section is too difficult play, don't try to play every note. The main riff of Bark at the Moon is somewhat syncopated with every other note on the green string, but the other strings jump around quickly. My wife was having tons of trouble on the verse riff so I suggested she just play the green notes and not even try the other notes until it got to the easier chorus. She was able to pass it on medium the first try after that. Skipping a note doesn't hurt you nearly as bad as picking a note and missing it. If you get lost on fast solo, don't flail around trying to find your spot and catch up. Stop for a second and wait for a note you know you can hit.
4) For the harder levels, you have to learn the pull off/hammer on trick. Watch the tutorial. I can only get it to work about 50-60% of the time. The nice thing about PO/HOs is that if you miss a note it doesn't hurt you nearly as much as if you'd picked it and missed.
5) Use your pinky! I know it's weak and no video game has ever asked you to use it before, but you need to get used to it. If you can use your pinky you won't have to shift your hand as much and it'll be much easier to hit the right notes.

Well that pretty much is the most amazing thing I've seen. Last time I tried CFH on expert i finished with 110k which I'm sure is a far cry from 4 stars. I have no idea how he's able to get those HO/POs so perfectly... and then is able to do it crossing over hands? Just sick if it's not doctored. Would have been curious to see what kind of score that was.
Right now I've got 22 5 stars on expert (not counting the three bonus songs) but I'm not sure how many more I can get. I still can't get 5 on Sharp Dressed Man which is depressing.
Saturday I decided to go for guitar god status on Hard (5 stars on all 47 songs) and so far I've got 5 stars on 25 of the first 26, + 1 of the bonus songs. I'm worried about CFH and Bark though. Even on Hard aceing them should be tough.

I played this for the first time Saturday, this game rules.
What caught my attention to the game was the dude that was playing it the other night I was in there. He had on a fedora, and he was standing in the guitar player pose and he was really getting into it. He was giving me douche chills.

Modred,
What 3 bonus songs are you talking about? I know about all of the songs you can purchase from the unlock shop. Are there other songs besides those that you can unlock?
Thanks

Anybody else still playing this?
I have 5 stars on every song on Hard except "Texas Flood", "Cowboys From Hell" and "Bark at the Moon" plus "Breaking Wheel", "Decontrol" and "Ready 2 Rock." I think I'm really close on Flood and Bark at the Moon (which is the one I've practiced most). I'm consistently scoring 193k with 93-94% hit, and I think I need 200k. Just need one run where I do really well on my star power. My high score on Flood is 124.7k and I have a sinking feeling I need 125k. I doubt I'm close on CFH though, but with some practice I think I can nail it. "Ready 2 Rok" is deceptively hard but is definitely do able as is Decontrol which probably just needs you to be perfect at the start when you can rack up a lot of points. I have not scored more than 123k and 3 stars on Breaking Wheel no matter how many times I play it. Not sure what I can do about that one.

Managed to get 5 stars on "Ready 2 Rokk" and "Bark at the Moon" on hard last night. I didn't think I was doing that great on Bark cause I used my star power at times I don't normally use it at, but apparently that made the difference as I finished with 203k.

Hehe. It really is that good a game. In fact I'm so in love with it that I reviewed it on TU yesterday.

I finally convince my wife to pick this up. We spent almost two hours playing tonight. What's funny is that she almost refused to walk out of the store with me because she thought it was so dumb. Can't wait to get better at this game....it's just really addicting.
