I just started playing Phoenix Write: Ace Attorney, and it's gotta be one of the best games I've played :). I know I say that about a lot of DS games but they are SO different from everything else out there, and they're really good too. I'm in the middle of chapter 2 and its great, the characters are so funny and the story and music is great. This game was actually pretty difficult to find, its too bad it didn't get a wider release. If you spot it I'd gab it if I were you, you won't be disappointed. There were too many DS games to play so I put Mario and Luigi Partners in Time on my Christmas wish list since Animal Crossing DS is coming out so soon.

In the end its costing me 63.00 to get my DS fixed. Maybe when I buy my Revolution I'll skip the store's "warranty" seeing as Nintendo took better care of me than my own company.

I'm playing Mario and Luigi now and its fantastic. Alphadream did another excellent job at turning the Mario Universe into a really good RPG that makes fun of itself non stop. That darn rumble pak works pretty well in the game. I know its not the best rumbling device, but its adds a nice touch to M&L. I'm really loving all the quality stuff from Japan coming out for the DS, but I'm also completely pissed at the rest of the developers from around the world. Need For Speed: Most Wanted, Burnout Legends and King Kong may be three of the worst piles of crap every slapped with a $39.99 price tag and unleashed on unsuspecting Christmas shoppers. I'm really disgusted that with very few exceptions (Tony Hawk for one) American and European developers can not come out with anything for the DS that is not complete garbage. I don't know if its pure laziness or stupidity or what, but its really embarassing how much better the Japanese are at developing games. EA is supposed to be the number one publisher in the world, but most of their DS titles look like they were published by Acclaim. Awful. |
Are homebrew roms (without discussion on how to get them working) ok to discuss?

yes

Hey board, I just got a DS last night and so far I like it. Already have a PSP as well. So, I would like some recommendation of some good DS games, mainstream and rare and quirky.
So far I have Mario Kart, Nintendogs, and Trauma Center. |
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Advanced Wars Super Mario 64 DS Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time |
Meteos is an excellent puzzle game. Metroid Prime Pinball, Kirby Canvas Curse and Wario Ware Touched are a few other games that you might check too.
|
Meteos is, IMO, the best puzzle game since Tetris Attack.

Lumines is one of the best PSP games, and someone ported it over to the DS.

Personally I thought Mario 64 was terribly ported to the DS. I hated the controls. I didn't end up playing that long.
I feel the DS has incorporated the controls much better lately and use them to the advantage of newer titles. Recent Great Games: Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time (Just finished tonight. Great game. Can be tough if you dont power up. The last boss is a real bitch. Both literally and non-literally speaking.) Nintendogs (If you into this sort of thing) Castlevania DS (Seems like a remake of others, but it's still a lot of fun) Super Princess Peach (This game is a traditional Super Mario Brothers title sans Mario. Basically, replace Mario with Princess Peach and what you have here is a hybid between early Mario Bros. titles and Yoshi's Island) Upcoming Games im looking forward too: Super Mario Brothers DS (It's been way too many years since the last traditional Mario platformer) Animal Crossing (Only 3 more days) Super Monkey Ball DS Zelda DS and many more. |
Sonic Rush is also very good.

MS really works hard to provide good customer service for their badly designed hardware. During all 6 of my problems they were very friendly and helpful.

The Yoshi game is by far my favorite DS game (and I own a lot of them). It has very simple gameplay, but you have to keep playing to get higher and higher scores. There is some elegance to circling and throwing enemies up to Mario all the while creating a path to guide him down to collect more coins.

quick - reccomend a new DS game to me (going to best buy)
Hi! I'm going to the mall in a few hours and thought I would pick up a new DS game at best buy. I just got the DS so I only have Castlevania and Mario Kart. I really like platformer type games. My favorite GBA games are: castlevanias, metroids, zeldas, astro boy, marios, if that helps.
Thank you! |
Perhaps the new mario & luigi game?

I'm not sure exactly what you'd call it, but it's interactive turned based. For example, if it's Mario's turn and you select a jump attack, when the animation plays with him jumping on the enemy, if you hit the A(?) button at the moment of impact, you'll deal extra damage. This system is present in most Mario RPG games in recent years.

I also got to talk to actual Americans the two times I called with questions. You want to see bad customer service deal with Sony on any of their products.
