Yeah, the brightness is a huge seller for me.. but I really like the design and form factor and ESPECIALLY the color of my current DS. I know some people on another forum I visit from time to time successfully replaced a back-lit SP screen into their front-lit NES SP, but I forgot if he actually changed the screens of just swapped the cases.
Speaking of cases, does anyone know how to open up the top half of the DS? |
Yah I agree with you on the color. I loved my graphite DS but I also think the navy colored DS lite looks pretty slick as well. As far as the design and form factor of the original DS, I thought the bottom part of it was somewhat "bulky". I thought it made it somewhat awkward to play, at times, using the stylus -- felt like I needed to put it on a table or desk or something. I loved the width of the system because it felt comfortable to play with someone like me who has large hands. It appears the DS Lite still has close to the same width going for it -- slightly shorter but it appears overall less bulky which should make it lighter and easier to hold in your hands, which I think will make playing using the touch screen a whole lot better, at least for me.

Definitely drastically brighter.
I'll still pass though as I have no problems with the current DS screen and would rather spend the $$$ on games. |

holy crap! That looks really nice! Almost tempting enough for me to import one.
The second that is released here I am getting one of those! |

Wow. that is a lot brighter. And a bit smaller too. Nice.
I've been having a blast playing Animal Crossing latetly. Though this week I'm going to pick up Super Monkey Ball for the DS. That looks fun as well. |
Jump Superstars is probably my second or third favorite DS game at this point. Versus mode with other people triples that. I hope they make a sequel with Wi-Fi support (and Trunks as a playable character, dammit!). It's also amazing to see the variety of boy's comics in Japan compared to the US.

Original DS to be phased out this autumn - Fils-Aime Rob Fahey 08:46 20/02/2006 DS Lite will replace its older sibling entirely in August / September Nintendo will be dropping the current DS hardware from its line-up in autumn and replacing it entirely with the soon to be launched DS Lite system, according to the firm's US sales and marketing VP Reggie Fils-Aime. Speaking in a television interview with Spike TV show Game Heads, Fils-Aime confirmed that while the existing DS will continue to be sold alongside the DS Lite for some time, it will be phased out in August or September. The move is in line with Nintendo's normal approach to revising its hardware; the company rarely stops selling old designs outright at the point when it introduces a new version, instead preferring to give consumers the choice of both versions for a few months after launch. The DS Lite will be launched in Japan at the start of March in a range of three different colours, with overseas launches in North America and Europe set to follow some time "after spring" according to Nintendo Japan officials. Fils-Aime also took the opportunity during the interview to reaffirm that full details of the Revolution will emerge during E3 this year, including a launch date for the system - and to state once again that while the much-delayed Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess will be appearing in late autumn, it will still be released on the GameCube and not as a Revolution exclusive title. There is going to be some mad rush in Japan for the DS Lite. With a supply exhaustion and big anticipation. Should be a hot item.
|
Japan's been sold out of DS's for awhile I believe. They have been importing units back from the US to compensate for the demand (I think this is the first time its happened like this). The timing couldn't be better for the DS lite to come out. and after watching that video, hell I want mine too :).

I had originally planned to get the DS a couple of months ago, but I'm glad that I waited.

I preordered the DS Lite from Lik-Sang 2 weeks ago or so. Do you think they'll get enough to satisfy pre-orders? Or will I probably be waiting an extra couple weeks?

If that happens I'll cancel my order but I've had good luck with Play-Asia in the past so I'm not worried. :P
Originally I was going to import Ouendan with my DS Lite but I've changed my mind. I've never really played a rhythm game before so I was unsure about spending $50 on something I may not like. Nothing against Ouendan, I'm pretty sure it is fun to play but I found something more to my liking...Bleach DS. I've been reading alot about it over the weekend and even watched a couple of videos which I linked below and it looks to be a pretty kickass fighting game. The game has Wi-Fi support and single cart multi-player up to 8 players. It also appears there's no plans to bring this to the U.S. -- figures. Bleach DS Video |
I may have to check out that Bleach game.. I'm not sure if it can top Jump Super Stars though!

Has there been anything done to emulate local wireless play over the internet for the DS, kind of like what they did to allow Kirby Air Ride and Mario Kart: DD playable online? I've got a JSS challenge I'd like to deliver on before I get a chance to see this guy in person again.

New Super Mario Bros. dated, Magnetica announced Latest iteration of Nintendo's series bouncing onto DSes May 7; new marble-puzzle game coming June 5. This morning, Nintendo DS fans got a double shot of good news. The Japanese game giant put a final US release date on New Super Mario Bros., the debut of its long-running, jumping-plumber series on its dual-screen handheld. The all-new platform adventure will arrive in stores stateside on May 7, though pricing and rating have yet to be announced. New Super Mario Bros. is a polygonal game that is presented from the classic 2D side-scrolling perspective that made Nintendo a household name in the '80s. While the basics may be similar, Mario has a lot more moves than in previous outings, including butt-stomps, backflips, and triangle jumps. The game will also feature new power-ups, like a pump-up mushroom. GameSpot's previous coverage has more details on the game. If sending diminutive Italian pipelayers airborne isn't your brand of moustache wax, Nintendo also announced an all-new title for the DS today. Titled Magnetica, the puzzle game will have players stop an oncoming onslaught of marbles. They will use the DS stylus to manipulate said marbles into groups of three or more, which will result in said groups vanishing. The game is due in stories on June 5, and GameSpot will have more details as they emerge. By Tor Thorsen -- GameSpot Posted Feb 21, 2006 10:06 am PT Chris |

Cool news, but I'm MUCH more excited for the one coming out next Tuesday. :D2:

Super Princess Peach looks great, but I'm definitely more excited for New Super Mario Bros.
Peach is an annoying character and the use of emotions looks like it will get old fast (ala baby mario's crying in Yoshi's Island). Reviews mention it's pretty short and easy as well. So my expectations are a good bit lower for it than the Mario game. |
