Then buy Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan. It's my personal favorite game for the DS so far. Check out this thread over at GAF:

The first post sums everything up nicely, but as you will find out, it is the game that just about all DS importers love. You do not need to know any Japanese at all to enjoy the game either. It's from the Gitaroo Man staff, and if you know anything about that game or if you ever played it, then you know how damn good it is.

I might order Slime Dragon Quest 2 when I order Gunstar Heroes for PS2 in a couple of weeks.

Hmm.. I think I'll get it.

Questions: How many save slots are there? Is there a single-cart multi-player mode?

Brent L 02-13-06 01:28 PM

I believe there is only one, but I am not totally sure about that, and I'm sure on the second question either. I do know that all of the answers about the game are in that thread I linked to though. I just don't remember everything that I've read. I haven't really had a chance to try out multiplayer, so that's why I'm not sure on that one.

This it?

Yes, but you can get it for a few bucks cheaper at YesAsia:

I wanted to order the game and the system from the same place and it looks like they're $30 higher on the DS Lite compared to PlayAsia.

Brent L 02-13-06 01:58 PM

Ah, ok. Then PlayAsia is the way to go for you.

Anyway, if any of you actually do buy Ouendan, be sure to let us know what you think of it.

PixyJunket 02-13-06 02:02 PM

Single-cart multi-player appears to be the training stage only. :(

I took your suggestion on the game, Brent! It and my DS should be here first week of March. I'll let you know what I think of the game and I'll post some pics of the DS Lite.

Agreed on both counts.

I'm pretty good about being realistic in my expectations for games, but if this is anything less than an instant classic and the best platformer I've played in years, I'll will be extremely disappointed.

I would love if it people who regularly import Japanese DS games could compile a list of the good ones that require no Japanese to play (either there's no need for directions, or the directions or so simple that a few minutes of playing will be all the training you need). I really want to get into some of these Japanese games, but I'm not going to import a game if I can't understand it.

Setzer 02-14-06 02:07 AM

Is there any speculation on when the DS Lite will get released here? I'm having some second thoughts on importing it...mainly because it's a new design and I'm not sure if I'm going to like it and if I don't I'm pretty much stuck with it. I imported my graphite DS w/o any problems and was satisfied but I knew what I was getting.

Supermallet 02-14-06 02:46 AM

I've heard May. Don't know if that's 100% or not, though.

I saw copies of Trace Memory and Meteos last night for $21 new. Good games? Good deal?

vd0man 02-14-06 08:17 AM

Meteos is excellent, and that's not a bad deal. I got mine on Ebay for about the same after shipping.

It's kind of like a much more frantic version of Tetris Attack. Unfortunately that keeps it from being as good, but it's still excellent.

I haven't played Trace Memory, but it wasn't super well received in reviews or word of mouth on boards. Not bashed totall either, but concensus seemed to be that it was mediocre.

Trace memory is pretty awesome definitely worth $21. :)

Meteos is worth $21 easily. Trace Memory probably isn't. Its a very good point and click adventure but it only lasts 5-6 hours. Unless you felt like playing it through a few times its probably not worth $21.

Setzer 02-14-06 12:59 PM

Meteos is an extremely fun and addicting game. Definitely worth the $21 price!

I'm about 2-3 hours into Trace Memory and enjoying it so far. It has good atmosphere and nice character designs.

Supermallet 02-14-06 04:01 PM

I was always on the fence about buying Advance Wars, but I read some more reviews today and decided to get a copy for myself and WhoGirl. Also, Age of Empires tomorrow. Yippee!
