Some big news.

Basically Nintendo is going to put in download stations for game demos and trailers at stores such as Best Buy and EB/Gamestop.

This isn't quite as big news as I thought, as all the stuff you download deletes itself the moment you turn your DS off. Still interesting, though.

Man, I have to stop myself from ordering a lite from Japan.

PixyJunket 02-10-06 07:12 AM

Keep in mind those colors are for Japan.. could be different over here.

fujishig 02-10-06 10:58 AM

So how's rub rabbits?

Any idea what this Animal Crossing DS bundle is about?

I'm going to guess a blue DS with Animal Crossing. But I'd definitely be interested if it were a limited edition Animal Crossing-themed DS.

That link took me to an imagevenue image upload page. No game pictures. :(

Brent L 02-10-06 03:45 PM

I fixed it.

While I'm at it, check out this game:

That page also says that Brain Training 2 has sold 1,080,000 in one month.

Fodder1976 02-10-06 03:53 PM

This is amazing news......

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6144079.html

Boosted by four of the top five selling titles in Japan, DS games outsold PlayStation 2 games during 2005. Over the previous two years, more than half of the games sold in Japan were for Sony's system. PS2 games accounted for 55.4 percent of game sales in 2003 and 57.1 percent in 2004. But the picture changed in 2005 as DS games accounted for 41.4 percent of game sales in the country, and the PS2's share fell to 36.2 percent.

Supermallet 02-10-06 03:57 PM

Nice! The DS wins again! :D

Resident Evil DS rules. It's almost criminal how fun old games can be on a portable system.

darkside 02-10-06 09:16 PM

RE DS was definitely tempting, but after the excellent GameCube remake and RE4 I just couldn't bring myself to play it again. Maybe sometime down the road I will change my mind though.

Supermallet 02-10-06 09:51 PM

I've been enjoying RE DS.

Finally found Bust-A-Move DS at Gamestop, and they were even nice enough to give me my employee discount although I forgot my paystub.

Picked up Rub Rabbits at Fry's this evening for $19.99, onsale for that price through Tuesday, I think. I actually stopped by Circuit City first to save an extra $1 price match, but they hadn't put it out yet.

I got to play Jump Superstars this weekend and I must say it's pretty damn cool. It's very, very similar to Super Smash Bros. except instead of Nintendo characters, all the characters are from little boy's comics in Japan. Some of the popular ones here would be Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto and Yu-Gi-Oh.. at least to my knowledge, or more accurately, according to my friend who still watches anime.

Basically you build a "deck" or pick from a pre-built one. I use quotes because it's not really a deck of cards but that's what the game calls it. What it is is that the touch screen is a blank comic page with empty panels and you place characters in those panels to build what's essentially a comic book page. Characters you can use in battle take up a lot of space.. striker characters take up two or three panels and helpers take up one. In battle, you touch the panel of the character to either switch out to another character, boost stats or send a striker on the screen to help you. The battle screen is also modeled after a page of a comic book.. and you can attack the edges of the page to open it up and throw opponents out of the page for an easy KO! There are also lots of items on the screen like bombs, coins, power-ups, power-downs, etc. Very frantic. Oh yeah, unlike Smash Bros. you do defeat character instead of just throwing them off the screen.. but you can switch characters and characters in reserve refill energy (very slowly though).

We played 4 players via the one-cart wireless play.. but sadly doing that you're limited to about 6 pre-defined decks.. needless to say the game was so damn fun we were sold on picking up our own copies (luckily the Fry's here carries some DS and PSP imports). Sadly I doubt the game will every come out here due to how much it would cost to license all the characters, I guess they're all under the Jump comics in Japan but are owned by several different companies here.

Don't you mean still watches little boy anime? Those crappy kiddie anime series are the exception to the general anime series, which are adult themed.

I'm thinking of checking out that game it sounds like fun based on Pixy's comments.

PixyJunket 02-13-06 11:48 AM

I was looking up some more information on Jump Superstars and found out that most characters have several different versions based on how many panels they take up on your page. Some characters have 5-6 variations (one stat boosting version, two striker versions and two or three playable versions with different special attacks).

There are over 600 actual panels to build your page (or "deck") from, 160 characters, 34 which are playable.

Hey, hey, I grew up with shonen jump series in the 80s (Kinnikuman, St. seiya, dragonball), and I still enjoy One Piece and Naruto and stuff. They're meant for kids, sure, but I wouldn't call them all "crappy."

How much was Jump Allstars at Fry's? About the same as getting it online?

$50 with tax so it's about the same as you'll get it anywhere online after shipping.

lol I didn't mean it like that man no offense. I'm just saying, people generally only associate anime with the kiddie series but it's really just a minute bit of what anime is about. I too watched alot of these series growing up but I don't watch many of them today. I haven't outgrown anime by any means as there's an endless supply of great anime out there.

buy it here. http://www.liksang.com/info.php?products_id=6654

Ok I'm going to order my DS Lite today...probably going to get the navy colored one. I'll post some side by side comparison pics when I get it. I'm ordering it through PlayAsia.com and they have some DS games on sale and thought about getting a couple but not sure if they're any good and if they can easily be played w/o knowing any Japanese. So, I thought I'd ask you all -- here is the list...

Bouken-Ou Beet: Vandal vs. Busters
Kouchuu Ouja Mushi King: Greatest Champion e no Michi
Kyouryuu Taisen Dino Champ: Saikyou DNA Hakkutsu Daisakusen
Sonic Rush
Super Monkey Ball
Zoids Saga DS: Legend of Arcadia

If there aren't any on the list that are good, feel free to recommend me a game worthy of importing. Thanks! :)

Brent L 02-13-06 12:57 PM

Do you own Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan? If not, that's the game to get:

EDIT:

This game looks interesting:
