I finally broke down and bought a DS today. When the system launched a year ago, I had no interest in ever owning one. I think that the main reason that my opinions have changed is that developers have found new and interesting uses for the touch screen that make it an integral part of the game rather than merely a cheap gimmick. I have to say though, that the idea of playing Mario Kart online is what finally convinced me to get a DS
In anticipation of purchasing the DS, I have already picked up:
Feel the Magic: XY/XX
Wario Ware: Touched
Super Mario 64 DS
Mario Kart DS
I am stuck at work at the moment, but I should be able to post my friend code later this evening.

How long does this thing have to charge for?

. I suggest starting with Castlevania or Advance Wars, then maybe try out Trauma Center and Phoenix Wright (try to buy this game if you see it, its very rare, you may have to get it online). And on top of it all, it's a white DS. Sexy!

Phoenix Wright is rare? Damn.. I recommend getting your hands on it as it's great fun. There should at least be a fair number of second hand copies floating around as I suspect the replay value will be minimal. Still the first time through is more than fun enough for me. I'm on the 5th case now and I wish they'd had a chance to incorate some of the more complex evidence interactions into some of the earlier cases (which I gather were ported from the GBA version). Anyway, now I'm just waiting for the sequel!

I just spent all night playing Meteos and WOW... all I knew is that it involved planets... this game is AWESOME. I am having so much fun with it. Can't play with Mia (my Nintendog) because it's too noisy at work, so I played mostly Meteos and Mario Kart (Luigi's Mansion is just amazing and my favorite course so far... in Waluigi's Pinball, what happens if you hit the big ball, does it flatten you?) And why is everyone driving on the left side of the road
I'm playing:
Meteos
Nintendogs
Mario Kart
Metroid Pinball
Animal Crossing
Golden Nugget Casino
The following are rentals:
Phoenix Wright
Sprung
Trace Memory
Trauma Center
Anything else I should be playing? I'm not really into Nanostray (not a shooter kind of person) or Mario & Luigi: PiT. WarioWare and Zookeeper and Polarium are fun but now I'm using Meteos as my pick-up game.
In Meteos, is there any other strategy besides moving blocks up and down to align them horizontally or vertically?

I just picked up a DS (the red one with Mario Kart) and Castlevania DOS and this is the first system I've bought and not had that feeling of instant buyers remorse. It really takes it back to the days of earlier generations of gaming and to me, that's a good thing. The games are simple, yet complex to master. I'm very pleased with both games (I think I even prefer Mario Kart DS to Double Dash). Believe it or not, the game that sold me on the DS was my friend's copy of Madden 06 DS. While it has its flaws (the camera angle isn't very condusive to deep passing), to me it's a very fun portable football gaming experience. I loved the PSP Madden at first, but I'll wait until next year for that one until they work out the load times. Right now, being as busy as I am, portable gaming (really portable entertainment, period) is the direction I'm going. Overall, I love the DS so far.

Other than those games listed above, I've got Trauma Center, Castlevania, and Revenge of the Sith.

I started playing this earlier, and just like I knew I would, I do love it. One part made me bust out laughing:
That just totally caught me off guard.
I am now craving more games like this, big time.

Has anybody seen the video for Tales of Tempest? It looks AMAZING. I was worried about them doing it in 3D but it looks pretty damn good considering the hardware.. I keep forgetting we're only one year in on the DS and developers are going to constantly be doing more astounding things with the hardware.
