Got my imported DS today. It is so sexy... I'm charging it up now. Good times.

How long does this thing have to charge for?

fujishig 12-13-05 03:55 PM

Mine came almost completely charged... played it right out of the box.

I really like Kirby. Very interesting control scheme. Haven't played Meteos, so I can't comment on it. I have AW sitting here in the wrapper still.

I demand pictures of the pure white DS please. :)

Detective Thorn 12-13-05 04:48 PM

I finally broke down and bought a DS today. When the system launched a year ago, I had no interest in ever owning one. I think that the main reason that my opinions have changed is that developers have found new and interesting uses for the touch screen that make it an integral part of the game rather than merely a cheap gimmick. I have to say though, that the idea of playing Mario Kart online is what finally convinced me to get a DS

In anticipation of purchasing the DS, I have already picked up:
Feel the Magic: XY/XX
Wario Ware: Touched
Super Mario 64 DS
Mario Kart DS

I am stuck at work at the moment, but I should be able to post my friend code later this evening.

It takes awhile, like a few hours I think. I'm glad you finally got your DS jeff. The DS has taken over all my game playing time. If you asked me before I got it, I would have never believed that I'd devote this much gaming time to a portable but now I don't see how I'd live without it :). I suggest starting with Castlevania or Advance Wars, then maybe try out Trauma Center and Phoenix Wright (try to buy this game if you see it, its very rare, you may have to get it online).

And on top of it all, it's a white DS. Sexy!

Check out these sweet leather cases Nintendo makes in Japan:

Phoenix Wright is rare? Damn.. I recommend getting your hands on it as it's great fun. There should at least be a fair number of second hand copies floating around as I suspect the replay value will be minimal. Still the first time through is more than fun enough for me. I'm on the 5th case now and I wish they'd had a chance to incorate some of the more complex evidence interactions into some of the earlier cases (which I gather were ported from the GBA version). Anyway, now I'm just waiting for the sequel!

30 bucks though... no wonder they didn't bring them out here...

I just spent all night playing Meteos and WOW... all I knew is that it involved planets... this game is AWESOME. I am having so much fun with it. Can't play with Mia (my Nintendog) because it's too noisy at work, so I played mostly Meteos and Mario Kart (Luigi's Mansion is just amazing and my favorite course so far... in Waluigi's Pinball, what happens if you hit the big ball, does it flatten you?) And why is everyone driving on the left side of the road :hscratch:

I'm playing:
Meteos
Nintendogs
Mario Kart
Metroid Pinball
Animal Crossing
Golden Nugget Casino

The following are rentals:
Phoenix Wright
Sprung
Trace Memory
Trauma Center

Anything else I should be playing? I'm not really into Nanostray (not a shooter kind of person) or Mario & Luigi: PiT. WarioWare and Zookeeper and Polarium are fun but now I'm using Meteos as my pick-up game.

In Meteos, is there any other strategy besides moving blocks up and down to align them horizontally or vertically?

I just picked up a DS (the red one with Mario Kart) and Castlevania DOS and this is the first system I've bought and not had that feeling of instant buyers remorse. It really takes it back to the days of earlier generations of gaming and to me, that's a good thing. The games are simple, yet complex to master. I'm very pleased with both games (I think I even prefer Mario Kart DS to Double Dash). Believe it or not, the game that sold me on the DS was my friend's copy of Madden 06 DS. While it has its flaws (the camera angle isn't very condusive to deep passing), to me it's a very fun portable football gaming experience. I loved the PSP Madden at first, but I'll wait until next year for that one until they work out the load times. Right now, being as busy as I am, portable gaming (really portable entertainment, period) is the direction I'm going. Overall, I love the DS so far.

That's exactly how I felt. I thought the touch screen was a) a total gimmick, and, b) too easy to scratch (because all I had seen were demo units in stores, where people had scratched the hell out of the touch screen). It was actually Phoenix Wright that convinced me to buy one. And now I've given that one to WhoGirl, bought myself a red DS, and got each of us a copy of Animal Crossing, Mario Kart (technically, my copy came with the red DS), and Nintendogs, so we could use the wifi. I also found Lost In Blue used the other day at work, so that's really cool.

Other than those games listed above, I've got Trauma Center, Castlevania, and Revenge of the Sith.

Chris_D 12-18-05 05:17 PM

Congrats to the new DS owners. I really hope the games continue to flow, it has been a great last 6 months.

Supermallet 12-25-05 05:04 PM

Yesterday I saw somebody buying four red DS systems. -eek-

I picked up PW:AA tonight at Blockbuster. I've had a very hard time finding it, so after hearing that it just wasn't me that couldn't get it, I traded in some of my TRU games and got it. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm sure I'll love it.

Brent L 12-27-05 12:43 AM

I started playing this earlier, and just like I knew I would, I do love it. One part made me bust out laughing:

Spoiler:
In the second case where the bellboy takes the stand, the prosecution attorney sees him and says something like "well he certainly looks like a bellboy", and then when it actually shows him on the stand he is in full bellboy uniform including holding a big tray of food/drinks.

That just totally caught me off guard. :)

I am now craving more games like this, big time.

PixyJunket 12-29-05 07:42 AM

Has anybody seen the video for Tales of Tempest? It looks AMAZING. I was worried about them doing it in 3D but it looks pretty damn good considering the hardware.. I keep forgetting we're only one year in on the DS and developers are going to constantly be doing more astounding things with the hardware.

PixyJunket 12-29-05 08:07 AM

Here's a link to said video: http://uploader.fam.cx/data/u0270.wmv

Pokémon DS will have WiFi support! :D2:

I thought the dongle was only going to be available on Nintendo's site?

thats what I thought too as well, but apparently lots of Best Buy's have it in stock.

darkside 01-01-06 12:00 PM

Hopefully Electroplankton will end up in stores as well, but there are a few other things I want to buy at the Nintendo store so getting it there is not a major deal.

Yep, that's why I made that post. I was shocked to see it at BB.
