One more week, ladies.

So, what is everyone most excited about?

1. Just getting to play this again or getting to play this on go.
2. Getting to experience this for the first time.
3. The new 50 floor bonus dungeon.
4. Creating your own party for the end.
5. Other reasons.

For me it's a combination of 1 and 3. I love gaming on the go and as this is a childhood favorite I'll be glad to have it with me wherever I go.. but I can't deny that a 50 floor bonus dungeon doesn't tap into my love of "grinding" in RPGs.

If I spot any deals I'll post them here. Fry's seems to have been dry of good deals for new portable releases (at least on the DS titles I've watched over the last month or two) but they did have Dragon Quest VIII at $37.99. If all else fails I've got a Best Buy gamer card I need to get rid of before the month ends.

I can't wait for this. Unfortunately I'm going to have to wait until Christmas since I put it on my list.

I have it for the SNES, but I never finished it. I think the main reason I'm looking forward to this is that it's coming to a portable system. I love RPGs for portable systems for some reason.

How long did it generally take to finish FF III (IV)? I just finished FF 1: DoS, and it took me around 25 hours.

All the SNES Final Fantasy games took about 20-40 hours if I recall. Obviously there's some new stuff and if you enjoy item collecting and power-leveling you can get some more out of them.

I played through almost all of the extra dungeons in Dawn of Souls, so I'll probably spend quite a bit of time collecting everything and leveling up. I'm hoping they don't make it as easy as they did with FF1. I think I finished the game with all my characters at level 74 or 75 and it only took about 5 or 6 rounds to beat Chaos. Plus I think I still had most of my HP for all my characters.

Yeah, that seems to be a popular complaint. I actually enjoyed the Dawn of Souls version because of that but I can see it either way. I think a recent Nintendo Power confirmed that it would match the difficulty of the original Japanese Final Fantasy IV (which was harder than the Final Fantasy II we got on the SNES). Though I reckon the bonus dungeon will probably give some extra levels and items that'll make the ending easier if you choose to traverse it (though hopefully it'll be an "after-the-fact" bonus dungeon with bosses that make Zeromus look like child' play).

I'm glad they are returning to the harder difficulty level. I wouldn't have minded having the easier difficulty level if they would have also allowed you to play it with a harder setting. I have a feeling that this will be like playing it for the first time since I never finished it and don't remember too much of it

1UP has a extensive overview of the bonus content. It's insane, they've added a ton of stuff, new dungeons, caves, quests. They say with all the bonus stuff it nearly doubles the game time. Plus there's some pretty cool stuff you can do at the end of the game that makes it an instant buy for me, this is one of my favorite FF's. The GBA is still alive and kicking, (though it was never even close to being dead to begin with.)

Kind of interested because of the portability factor and I never really got round to playing the original. Wish it was on the ds though, if only for sleep mode.

Most recent GBA games have supported sleep mode as well and most of the RPGs let you quick save anywhere.

Too bad they couldn't release a DS port just for the fill screen.

They SHOULD have made this a DS game, considering the audience they're going for probably has a DS anyway. That and htey're already porting FFIII (NES-J) to the system, so why not?

I'm really hyped for this. The last year of console gaming has been rather boring and dry, with only a few gems here and there. The DS and GBA games are like a gold rush to me. I feel like I should pace out my purchases so I don't get spoiled and just toss the game aside. There have been about 20 DS and GBA games that i've snagged this year, and i'm still playing over half of them. It's a great time to be an old-school gamer.

Yeah, I'd have loved for it to be moved to the DS so they could make it into 3D like Final Fantasy III.. and if they hadn't, people would be bitching about SNES ports on the DS and any menial touch screen or second screen support would've been labeled gimmicky. Seriously, the GBA is still alive, very alive.. and the DS plays GBA games. If there's no significant reason to utilize the extra hardware keep it on the GBA in my opinion. The only reason Final Fantasy III is DS bound is that Nintendo is hoping to move some hardware since it'll be the first time the game is available in the US.

I started to read that last night and closed it before it got into the meaty bits. I want to enjoy any surprises unknowingly. I was also glad to see that the translation has been further improved from the Playstation version (it REALLY needed it). Now if you'll excuse me, I'll fire up the Final Fantasy IV soundtrack and process back to my work.

Funny you mention firing up the FFIV soundtrack. I brought it with me to work last Friday and was listening to it in my office and the secretary wondered what the hell kind of music I was listening to. I just smiled at her and told her "Good Music"

I read the 1up preview....I didn't think I could be any more excited about this game. Sad thing is I told my Wife she could get it for me as one of my Christmas gifts and I asked her about getting it early.....she didn't go for that ......so now I'll have to wait until Christmas to play it. Oh well, I have DQ8 to keep me busy.

Don't forget about the $10 off $29.99+ game at best buy: http://www.ddrmaniax.net/angeltk/cag/bb10vg.pdf

Should be able to get it for $19.99 that way.

Where can you get that coupon?

I've got a Best Buy $5 I need to get rid of before the year ends.. I was thinking of trying to price match.. use the $5 coupon and the $5 I put on the card, that would make it out to $16.88 which is pretty sweet (well $21.88 technically).

Apparently it was handed out during the X360 launch. The folks on CAG are saying the printout works just fine. Worth a shot if you get it to work. $21.88 with a PM and gamer gift card would also be a hella good deal.

I'll have to give that coupon a shot. I'll pay $30 though for this game with no problem though.

I couldn't care less about the extra 50-level dungeon. I never bother with these anyway. Those are for those wacky completionist people who love to get to level 99.

I just care about this - It's portable SNES FF, finally! Now, as I've said before, I want Chrono Trigger and Dragon Quest 5/6!

I saw the box for this last night when I went to pick up Chaos Field.. I like that it has the box art for Final Fantasy II on the back with a note that it was previously released as such. I'm not sure why. I'll be stopping by Circuit City after work to pick it up!
