Nor I.

While FF6 was the best game in the series, as far as I am concerned, FF4 is right behind it. There was no other FF game that I spent more time with than I did with FF4. It consumed my time back in my junior and senior year of H.S....way back in 1991. Played through it numerous times, leveled my all my party members to 99, spent hours hunting down the Pink tail, and even more time discussing it on the Prodigy Video Game BB. It even got to a point where several of the members and myself discussed making a guide for it. Good memories, good times.

So, I'll be interested to see what changes will be made. While I do own FF Chronicles I've never played FFIV on it mainly because I didn't like how FFV and FFVI played on the PSX. Load times got to me and I missed the SNES days where load times didn't exist. Very excited to see this released on the GBA and also happy to hear FFV and FFVI will be done as well.

FFIV PSX plays with very little lag and loading times. It's practically the only PSX port worth playing.

FFIV Jap. Hardtype translation on the PS1 disc is much much harder than the SNES U.S. version, though. I got pummeled badly, the difficulty reminds me of FF1.

I saw a mention of the FF III remake for the DS earlier in this discussion. I happened to come across a link to some screenshots on another forum.

I hope they have new Amano artwork for the boxes of V and VI as well.. I'll be displaying them as the fine pieces of art they are. I can't believe I'm THIS excited over a game I've beaten at least thirty twenty already (probably more).

I don't know, I think several difficult settings would be good for the game. I found it was more fun to play on the easier settings when I wasn't devoting 5+ hours at a time to the game.

50 floor bonus dungeon?! I'm in love. Damn, from the scan they've improved the graphics a bit too. It's noticeable in the bottom picture, the original graphics were not that detailed (they're the SAME essentially, it just looks like they added a lot of color detail to them). Also, the monster in the top picture is called "Rune Bahamut," a new enemy no doubt.

Apparently, from a Japanese magazine scan, another new feature is being able to form any party you want for the final area (and possibly the bonus dungeon). That's all that it said so no specifics on what characters will be included in that.. I would assume that the characters that leave the party before the final dungeon originally will be given new abilities or something to make them worth bringing back.

I knew it! I found a better picture of the shot in that scan and made a comparison shot.

It looks more like Final Fantasy VI now...

...which is a good thing.

I'd say it's closer to the look of Dawn of Souls in that it retains the short and stout look but giving the color and detail a major upgrade. VI's graphics are overall bigger in size and scale. Either way, it's awesome and it's becoming more and more apparent that this is much more than "just a port". As long as the music remains untouched I'd say everything I've wished for since hearing this was coming to GBA has been granted.

Whoa, I wasn't expecting the graphics update. Very cool! You can definitely see the detail added in that comparison shot.

I never got to play the Japanese version of FFIV. Does anyone know if you were ever able to heal the Twins, Palom & Porom? That and the Pink tail were probably the two biggest mysteries of the game....well, until the pink tail was found. I wonder if all the random call spells for Rydia will be left in?

I believe restoring Palom and Porom is confirmed to be false. I played through the PS version and it isn't in there, plus I checked the FAQ just to make sure (first time I saw that scene I had tears in my eyes).

Pink tail however.....

You did find the Pink tail.....didn't you?

And for those of you who don't know, there were random calls/summons for Rydia you could get off certain enemies. Like if you went around fighting a bunch of Imps they may randomly drop a Imp stone which was then used to teach Rydia the Imp summon. There were others but I don't remember them all.

KEY INFORMATION
At the orders of the king, a city burns. Torn by guilt, the dark knight Cecil, commander of the Red Wings of Baron, must choose between loyalty and justice. Previously released as Final Fantasy II for the Super NES®, Final Fantasy IV Advance features improved graphics, enhanced music and an expanded storyline.

* Players test their skills in a new, 50-level dungeon, or strengthen their characters in the training dungeon.

* Study foes with the Bestiary, or listen to the legendary score using the soundtrack player.

* Experience never-before-seen story sequences as party members are switched.

Game Storyline: The king of Baron has directed his loyal Red Wings armada to steal the sacred crystals from the neighboring nations. When the king commands his dark knight, Cecil, to destroy the village of Mist for its crystal, Cecil abandons the king and vows to put an end to his madness. Taking his friends and Rydia, the sole survivor of Mist’s destruction, Cecil embarks on a quest to set the world right and to make amends for the atrocities he committed in the king’s name.

Characters: Cecil, a dark knight on a quest for redemption: After destroying a village under the orders of his king, Cecil abandons his post and turns traitor. He is tormented by guilt over his actions and seeks to redeem himself by ending his king’s plans. Rosa, a white mage and childhood friend of Cecil. Kain, a dragoon and Cecil’s rival – as well as his best friend.

How to progress through the game: Players wander freely on the “world map,” getting into random monster battles and fighting their way from location to location, discovering more of the story as they go. The battles take place on a separate screen. Players enter their attack commands, and when their opportunity to attack comes, their characters perform the attacks, which range from sword strikes to magical blows. Players can swap out the characters in their parties, so that they can use black or white mages, lance-wielding dragoons, knights and paladins and thieves, to name a few. Each character has a unique set of attacks and abilities.

Special powers/weapons/moves/features: Final Fantasy IV introduced the Active Time Battle system, a variation on the turn-based combat system of standard RPGs. Time passes during battles, and if players do not input a command, enemies will attack repeatedly without waiting for players to take their turn.

I managed to score one (maybe two) of the large GBA box promos that had the beautiful cover art on it so I'm happy.

damnit! I was at the mall on Sunday and saw that box, looked awesome. I wanted it but the guy wouldn't give it to me and "didn't know" when they were going to get rid of it. .

Who is the person in the game's logo? Is it the Dark Knight version of Cecil or Kain?

Well since he's holding a spear I'm going to go out on a limb and say Kain. Hey Outlaw, if I managed to get both of the boxes I put on hold maybe we can work something out. The independent game store I shop at may be getting some other promo material as well (I'm hoping they get posters!) and I've always got first dibs on any Nintendo stuff they get.
