**probably a stupid question alert**

is it possible to get the Wipeout browser to work with WPA instead of just WEP security settings?

I haven't been able to. I just end up going to the webpage, connecting my PSP, and it downloads the add-ons to it directly.

Anyone else thinking about selling their PSP and getting an Origami instead?

I'm interested in Origami, but not as a gaming machine at all. I don't think this product was intended to compete with the PSP.

My main interest in the PSP is that of a portable entertainment device.

If Origami used some sort of game system where games didn't have to be installed, but run directly off of a drive, it would be a total PSP killer in my mind. I'm strongly considering ebaying my PSP and games... Anyone know when Origami comes out?

Too big. I refuse to get a PPC until they get smaller, so an origami is out of the question.

To be fair the Origami is more of a sub tablet PC. I think this will be aimed at people wanting something more portable than a notebook PC and more powerful than a PDA. However, if the battery life is decent and it can run full PC programs like iTunes and play different video formats like MPEG4 and Divx this could be a really cool portable video/music jukebox. Again it will depend on the battery life and the storage capacity. My laptop is only 4lbs and can do all that plus play DVDs so this thing would have to be pretty cool for me to consider switching.

You want to talk about too big, I brought my 17" widescreen laptop on my last trip and tried to use it on the plane

My PSP got all the usage of that trip. This thing looks like the perfect blend of usability, size, and entertainment.

I agree with Darkside, it'll come down to storage size, price and battery life. To me the lowest they can go is: 30GB, $500, and 5 hours. Although the battery life would be counteracted if it's easily removable and another battery isn't too expensive.

I agree 100%.

My interest, if the price is right and the user interface friendly, if having something I can toss in my backpack to take to the library etc. without breaking my back like my laptop.

But of course if this is much more than $500 then it's pointless as one could just wait for a good deal on a small, lightweight laptop.

Early buzz is that PSP Y's suffers from loading time... it's apparently not Smackdown bad, but I hear that the game necessitates power-leveling, which means going back and forth between areas to let enemies respawn, and that there's a load whenever you move between areas. Still, the price is tempting.

I've heard bad things about Generation of Chaos too, that your peons are brainless and that there is significant lag in the text conversations. I think 1up.com (which is EGM's website... I know, I know) gave it a 5/10. I'll probably still pick it up, but anyone here get it yet?

By the way, it's Ys not Y's.. it's a place and not in possession of something. [/anal]

Load times? Even after they went back to the 2D character graphics? What a joke.. it would be a great portable game otherwise. I'd still say to check out the PS2 version, it's got to be $20 by now and is just a lot of fun. Sadly, the Ys game being made for the DS is a tactical RPG and I hate those.

Yeah, I'm giving the PSP version a pass and will get the PS2 version at some point. Sad so many of the PSP RPGs have been underwhelming and two of the better ones didn't get a US release.

Just a head's up:
Me & My Katamari is $24.99 with free shipping at Outpost.com. MSRP is $39.99, so this is a pretty sweet deal. Even with some trepidations about the control system, I've ordered my copy.

I saw that on outpost....tempted, but I've never played Katamari. Seems like it could get old. You just roll around, right?

Trust me - it never gets old. Just brilliantly simple gameplay mechanics. You start rolling a small sticky ball arund a table, picking up thumbtacks, pencils, packets of soy sauce, soon you're bigger, picking up shoes, buckets, cats; before you know it you're rolling up people and buildings. All against a timer. It's mad fun, at least on the PS2. I think it would make a fantastic portable game for breif sessions, assuming they get the controls mapped in an effective way.

Well, after spending some more time with the PSP before I have to give it back next weekend I think I've cemented a decision on this machine. I will refuse to buy one until they release a second design (or at least until someone creates a D-pad replacement I don't have to buy a game to get). I know there was a lot of talk on how bad the analog controller is.. but to me, it's bad but ultimately I could probably get used to it. The D-pad, however, is flat-out unusable on any game that requires diagonal movement. I knew something was wrong when I made it to the end of Mega Man X and could not pull off the fireball special.. it hit me like a ton of bricks last night trying to play a nice game of Bosconian. This is easily the worst D-pad in the history of video games.. I've used crappy third party Playstation controllers with better design D-pads!

Seriously? OK I reviewed some old school compilation game for PSP (my memory is foggy on which one) and the Mortal Kombats on it were unplayable, I thought it was the game. Holy shit the D-Pad is bad.

I'm unloading mine pretty soon. I'll probably pick up the Origami when it comes out as a replacement.

This is my fear for Katamari. The game is a blast with the dual analog on the PS2, but being forced to used the D pad and the face buttons to control the thing seems like a nightmare of thumb pain. I can't imagine the control being worth the hassle but hopefully its not as bad as I'm thinking it will be.

I know Sony can't use the cross pad, but they should at least go for a D pad design like Sega or Microsoft.

One of the guys at the local GameStop had a Japanese import version and I got to give about a 5 minute tryout (on his pure white Japanese PSP no less). The control scheme is fairly straightforward and I was used to it almost immediately. Don't know how great it will be for long term, but I did go ahead and place my outpost preorder. Great deal there!

Glad you liked it. I read several reviews that complain of thumb strain with extended use, which is a bummer. Still for short bursts, it should be pretty fun.

For $26 shipped from Outpost...you can't pass this up. I've never played it on PS2, but I doubt the controls will be that much of a problem. Now it's just a matter of when they'll ship it.

Does Katamari add anything new? I LOVE the original, but didn't buy the sequel because it was just more of the same.

I disagree, I think the control is one of the most important aspects of the game. If they jack that, the game is nothing.
