Picked up the Micro yesterday and my wife and I are very pleased with it. We love how small it is. Takes up less room in her purse, its sleek lookin and the screen is nice and bright. It's the perfect on the go handheld. The GB SP was great but this just takes a great thing and makes it better.
We both thought that the PSP was a nice gadget but it's not practical in our opinion. To have to carry around a PSP is a choir in itself. And the graphics are nice but games like that should be played on a nice home system to really enjoy them.
The GB Micro is perfect for us. Plus we are 2D junkies
I highly recommend getting one.

Stopped reading my discs. I don't recall how long the warranty was, but since I had the CC protection plan I opted for that since I knew I would get a credit for my purchase price (and now I have a nifty Sony DSC-L1 camera). I thought about getting it repaired, but I wasn't really happy with it. It's really great as a piece of hardware, but there just wasn't software that was interesting to me, and I'm not paying $40 to play EA games, I might as well get'em for my Xbox. That and I was always paranoid about dropping it.

bought one of these the other day with some credit I had at EB. I've put about 2+ hours into it so far (playing lots of Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow), and so far I am very happy with it. I thought the minute I saw a game on it, I would regret my purchase, but the screen clarity and brightness impressed me greatly. also I like the button layout a lot, as well as the size of the A/B buttons. the only thing I don't like about the Micro is the L/R shoulder buttons, they dont work if you press them on the side, you have to hit them pretty dead or near center for them to work. other than that, I am very happy with my purchase, and can't wait to play more games on it

I was able to play with it at work for a while, carried it around to show to customers all day. The screen is nice and clear and even though it's small, it's not hard to play.
I'd never get one, as I don't really have the need to play games on the go, but for someone in the market for a Gameboy, heck...why not?

Bought a new SP this afternoon at a Best Buy. Target had the new ones as well, but at Circuit, which has a decent sale on SP hardware this week, two employees I talked to didn't have any idea about a new SP and presumed I was asking about the Micro (and these guys seemed pretty well-versed about games in general--I think it spoke more of NOA's lack of promotion for the new SP than the lack of knowledge of Circuit employees.)
A Best Buy guy let me try out the Micro he was wearing around his neck. Cool and all, but it just kind of reinforced my decision to go with the bigger screen on the SP for $20 less.
---
And is there any possibility of getting a mod to split this topic off into two separate threads--one for the Micro, and the other for the new SP?

Well, now that I've had it for a couple of days, I'm really lovin' the micro! I take it with me everywhere. I know some think it wasn't needed, but I was never really compelled to carry my GBA around like I am with the Micro. I think that's what they were aiming for. More portable=more playtime, especially for the casual gamer, at least IMO.
Now that I got a copy of Golden Sun and Advance Wars I'm set for a good while!!

The micro has totally grown on me. The SP is small, but IMO not comfortable or safe to carry around in a pocket. The Micro is the perfect size. Its fits in my pocket and I totally forget I even have it with me until I need it. I have my cell in the left pocket and my micro in the right. Its also a tough little device and I really have no worry of it getting damaged. I still think $99 is too high, but Nintendo did build a very high quality piece of hardware so from that standpoint its at least worth $99.
I've even found another use for it. When taking my 2 year old daughter places I simply insert the Dora the Explorer video cart and let her use the micro as a video player. Its so tough I don't worry about her breaking it they way I do with my SP.
So while not for everyone, I'm starting to like the micro more and more and will get my moneys worth out of it.

I just got a backlit SP last week and I'm not entirely happy with it, which is too bad because I traded my old SP for it. The screen is awesome and looks so much better than the old one, but mine is almost unusable for any game that requires precise controls. While I was trying to play Metroid Zero Mission I noticed that if I'm moving to the right I'm almost always pointing up or down, which never happened with my previous SP. It's hard to explain exactly what the problem is, but things that were easy to do in the game before are now almost impossible, because it's so much more difficult to get the d-pad from one position to another with any degree of precision.
I guess I'll contact Nintendo and try to find out if it's a problem with just my unit or not. I've read of other control problems with the new units, but mostly with the L and R buttons.

GoVegan, I've had no problems thus far. Well, come to think of it I think I've yet to play anything but Final Fantasy Dawn of Souls in my new SP.. but I didn't notice any control differences. I'll give something like Astro Boy or Zero Mission a spin tonight to see if I notice anything.. but so far the controls have felt just like my last SP.
Also, I did some comparisons to the new SP and the PSP this weekend and I can confirm that the new SP is brighter than the PSP. The PSP's deliciously large screen gives an extra feel of brightness due to its size but comparing all white screens between the two the new SP definitely shows off a much cleaner white. Of course, after my friend left I remembered that the PSP has an extra bright setting when it is plugged in so I'm assuming they'll be about evenly matched at that point but seeing as it has to be plugged I'd still give the SP the edge there (at least until Sony get their planned more powerful battery on the market!).

Thanks, Pixy. I'd appreciate that. At least that way I'll know if there's any point in my trying to get a replacement.
I was trying to do some shinespark exploration in MZM and I couldn't get anything to work right. Anything that required any sort of fast movement was impossible. If I was trying to fall to the right in ball form, I'd always end up accidently leaving ball form. After I almost got frustrated enough to throw the SP across the room, I put the cartridge in my DS and I was able to do everything I was trying to do before with no problem.

I'm sure this is answered somewhere in this thread, but am I correct in assuming that the micro does not have the ports necessary to plug into the GC as a controller for Crystal Chronicles or Four Swords?
If not, I was going to pick up a new SP, but i guess I'll wait until they get some QC...

Well I was sick the other night so didn't try out any action games but I did bring Sword of Mana with me to work. I can feel how the control is a bit different now.. but I haven't ran into any real problems with it yet.. I think it may be just be a matter of getting used to it? I'll try to remember to compare the old and new control tonight using something that requires more precision as I still have my old SP (I can't get rid of the NES design!).

I just got a new SP...it was on sale for $80 (Canadian). The screen is SO MUCH BETTER. Not just the brightness...but the games just seem sharper now. Like many others said...the blacks come out much better now.
I can see why someone would want a Micro though. My huge catalog of GB/GBC games though warrants something that's backwards compatible.

Speaking of sales, does anyone know where one could find the new SP for under $80 shipped? Buy.com has the old one for 80-10 (coupon), but I can't find the new one at a discount (not surprisingly). This may not be the right place to ask, but I didn't think anyone would really mind.

I agree that the TE screen was better then the GG and NM etc., but I do recall that I has issues with bluring on it. Perhaps I need to buy another one, but I don't recall feeling the screen was that great either.
