This clinches it: NINTENDO SUCKS.
I bought the original GBA over 5 years ago when it debuted. Since then i've bought dozens of excellent games, both from Nintendo and third-parties (wow, I guess everyone's predictions of companies abandoning Nintendo were right on there). I've had a total blast by the way, and here Nintendo is coming and fucking everything up for me by releasing a new product that does the exact same thing only slightly better and with minimal improvements. What they really need to do is go back in time and release the new product back when I was buying it, because it's not as if i've already gotten hundreds of hours of great gaming enjoyment of the system. Wow, Nintendo really knows how to stick it to their customers. I remember when I got an N64 it was $250. Then a year later they had the gall to lower the price by $50, then some time later it was only $100. How dare they do that to all the people who bought the system!!! Nintendo should have sent me a check for $150 when they dropped the price. Because nothing gives me more validation than a sense of entitlement and the inability to realize what I get out of a product instead of what it should have given me in the first place.
And as for other tech products out there, Nintendo needs to take a serious lesson from other companies. Take Apple for instance, I mean you don't see them doing stupid things like the Micro where they take their current product and scale it down so it's really only half as useful as the original product but in fact is meant to cater to a totally different purchasing demographic. Retards.

But I will say this much, you need to relax and theres no need to get all huffy over a product no one is forcing you to buy. Price drops are common place in hardware, as well as upgrades. But if this is gonna send you over the deep end you may want to reconsider why you're playing video games to begin with.

I thought I was clicking on a Gameboy Micro discussion, but apparanetly this is another I hate/love Nintendo thread
So, has anyone actually got a hold of one? Hurricane Rita has delayed their shipment to stores in my area. I had a silver one reserved, but all anyone has are the black ones.

Yeah it has gotten just a teensie bit off track here. I don't think anyone has really mentioned the micro for several pages back. I'm not sure but it seems that there is more interest for the SP with the new backlight then the micro in this thread.
But here is an article on unpacking the GB micro. It's stupid but kinda neat that they included a pouch. I don't like the fact that you need a tool to lift of the faceplate though. But then again hopefully that means that it is on there securely enough and won't just come off.

Okay, so GameRush once again fails to come through on a preorder. Its been a week past the release date and they still don't have Batallion Wars. However, they did get in one single black Game Boy Micro today. I ask the guy if I can get the full $50 for Batallion Wars (I only paid $29.99 for it with their trade in deal so I wasn't sure they would give me $50) and put that towards the Micro. He agrees and I get my black Micro for $54 in store credit I still had left on the account. I now own a device I have absolutely no need for in any way.
However, here is a quick review from someone that bought it and the new SP.
First of all, the screen on the Micro is the brightest of the three between the DS, SP and Micro. However, I think the screen on the new SP is the best. It has a more true white to me. The micro screen has a bit of a blue tinge to it the new SP and DS do not have. Honestly don't know if this will make much of a difference for game play though.
The screen does look very impressive though and text is clear and readable no matter how small it is. However, I found myself squinting a bit playing Metroid Fusion because Samus was so small. Yes, all the pixels are there, but when your character is moving around all over the place I can see eye strain setting in much quicker than the SP. One thing the Micro will be excellent at is video. The compression artifacts are much less noticable on the Micro making this an excellent combo with the Play Yan.
I found the button layout a little uncomfortable compared to the SP, but again this may just take adjustment. Games will definitely be playable, but you do have to position your hands differently with the Micro.
The device itself is nice overall. The body is metal and the buttons feel pretty good though the clickable part of the shoulder buttons is on the inside. The control pad has a bit of a loose feel to it, but I like how it and the buttons are raised up and once I adjust to holding the Micro I may find I like the button layout better than the SP.
They give you an AC adaptor and the battery still looks user replaceable which is a nice touch. The little widget is a nice toss in as it makes changing face plates a breeze. The little pouch is also a nice extra though for the $100 price tag its no burden to toss this in. The one thing I was shocked by was no wrist strap. They really should have given you one for the Micro, but I still have my Neo Geo Pocket one and will just use that.
Let me now get to the thing that ticked me off the most about the Micro. Those freaking faceplates. I really like the idea of them and my Micro looks cool with the Flame plate on. However, for something they charge $5 to replace these plates are total dog shit. They scratch super easy and are very thin cheap plastic. They should charge 99 cents tops for these things. Even normal cleaning with the special cloth I use for my PDA screen scratched the face plate. Not only that, but you better change the plates in a Clean Room. It took me three tries to change the plate out without dust specs getting stuck between the plate and the real screen. Turning on the system only to see those specs glaring at you was a complete pisser. Get used to having a few dust specs under your screen because getting it completely clean is tough. Also by very careful with the micro or you will be replacing plates constantly. Keep it in the pouch when not in use.
So, overall I think its an okay system, but its really more of a collectable than anything. The SP is a better and more practical system not to mention its $20 cheaper. The bigger, dust free screen of the SP beats the Micro every time.
For someone teaming this up with a Play Yan though I see major potential. The micro would be a nice as a small portable video and music player.
If you like the style of the device or really prefer something this tiny go with the Micro. Overall though the SP is by far the better portable GBA video game system.

Found a Micro yesterday after work. I had a GBA for while, but traded it in some time ago for god knows what. I had a PSP for a few months before it crapped out on me. I had a Circuit City protection plan on it and used the store credit to get a camera instead of another PSP. The PSP, while an awesome piece of hardware, just didn't do it for me. I don't think you could abuse a PSP like you can a GBA.
So, that opened the door to get another GBA. So far I really like the Micro. It's definately something I can see taking along with me all the time since it's so darn small!! I haven't experienced the scratching problem that darkside has, and I've already tossed it in my briefcase, pocket, car console and it hasn't got a scratch on it.
Now I've got to track down a copy of Golden Sun!!

Thanks for the reviews of the Micro! I think I'm more than content with the new SP but I still want to play with a Micro a bit to see how its form factor feels and to see how much of a difference the smaller screen makes. darkside is right on the new SP screen, the blacks and whites are INCREDIBLE on that bad boy. After playing with the SP for 2.5 years with washed out blacks seeing deep, deep blacks is just beautiful. What's great is if you turn it on it looks damn good as is, but the second setting is beyond amazing and really blasts you with color and brightness.

Also on the scratching. I'm thinking now that the scratch on my Flame faceplate may have been on there when I bought the system. I've cleaned the Camo and Flame plate a couple of times since and they seem to have no new scratches. Still can't get all the dust specs completely out of there, but most of the time I don't notice them.
The Micro is growing on me though. I had it with me today while waiting in line to order food and got in a quick 7-8 minutes of Breath of Fire. Very portable and you don't even notice its in your pocket. It seems to be very sturdy metal too so other than scratching the faceplate against something in your pocket I don't think it can be damaged.

Wow, the PSP really crapped out on you within a few months? What happened? How long is the warranty for. Isn't Nintendo's one year?

Thank you.
