Ill buy both. It would be cool to have an HDDVD player with the PS3 but I have a home theater computer that will probably have one sooner.
I told myself this was going to be the last generation I would be playing but I'll probably end up getting all 3 new systems anyways. I won't be getting them at least until a year or so after they release since I have a backlog of games already and by then they will hopefully be cheaper and I can get 2 or all 3 at the same time.
All I really want to do is enjoy videogames on my widescreen in high-def. That means either console will suffice. I may very well be buying both systems but, in my case, Xbox 360 has the advantage because of 2 things:

1) 360 is launching sooner. If I end up enjoying the games on the 360, and good games keep coming out, I may never get around to buying the PS3. It seems that stealing the spotlight from your competitors is a common tactic used, hence, you just know in your gut that Microsoft will have a highly anticipated title waiting in the wings and finally launching it on the same day as the PS3 is released.

2) The types of games I enjoy most have been on the Xbox. I'll gladly play FPS and driving games until my fingers fall off. Looking through my games, it seems every one of them, except for a handful, has me either holding a gun or a shift knob.

I'll be in a much better position to decide once I have a better understanding of the games that are coming for each console. High definition games are all I care about.
Yep, I'll take my XBOX 360 also. I really enjoy FPS and driving games and SPORTS. All consoles have basically the same sports games now (especially since EA has NFL). XBOX always seems to have the best ONLINE aspect too....plus, I like the early launch.

Gates has already said Halo 3 will come out at PS3 launch.
I know I'll end up buying all 3 systems again. They all have must have a games. PS3 will have the next god of war, Halo will be on the 360 and Revolution has Metroid, Link, and Mario.

Same here. If Xbox360 isn't backwards compatable, I'll still have space in my tv stand for that and the other 3. Beings that Revolution is going to be wireless and only 3 dvds tall, I think I can manage to stick that just about anywhere. I truly wish that Sony would make the PS3 wireless as well.
I save myself the trouble thinking about it, and just get all of them eventually. The price and titles are the factor that go into which consoles I buy first.
i Don't care much about HALO thought is OK (i rather stick w/ Sword & Slash games over Shooter). I'll pickup XBOX 360 if it backward compatable.

Top Pick

1. PS3
2. Nintendo Revolution
3. XBOX 360 (if it backward compatable if not I'll SKIP)
Leaning towards PS3 at the moment. Its all about games baby....i don't really care about the add-ons like wi-fi capable, photo viewing, dvd viewing....because i can do all this with my existing computer. Why should i pay more for all this add on? I want a console that gives me good games!!!
i could care less about what nintendeo has unless it is going to have some really kick ass games or something i'll pass. the new xbox i'll have for sure and the ps3 depends on if there is going to be another game of tekken comming out on that. if tekken comes out on the 360 screw the playstation.

lol, good one, I got a chuckle out of that .

but you have a point, I agree, this thread is pointless right now since we've only seen games on ONE of the THREE consoles that will be coming out (2 aren't even coming out until 2006). I'll get back to you in 2 days.
Neither, I'm still happy with the current xbox.
Playstation 3 for me. but most likely in 2007. That's when I plan to buy a HDTV.
I'm fine with my 27" Sony WEGA (3 years old) and PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube (hardly played anymore) for now. I have all three because I was in college and the Gamecube was the party console. However I no longer have much time so I'm only going to get PS3 because like people said, it's all about the exclusives!!!
most likely 360.
I'm leaning towards the 360 myself, but again game titles will decide that. I won't be buying the 360 at launch, that's for sure. As long as 360 is backwards compatible then it'll probably be my first next gen system, as I've wanted an xbox but if the 360 can play em, then I've got that entire back catalog to buy from.
Definitely leaning toward the PS3 after seeing the info on it revealed to day. Looks like it will be much more powerful and have more games I enjoy (since I don't care much for FPSs, Driving games or sports games).
Josh, just wondering where the 'much more powerful' comes from? You're not the only one I've seen say it. Is it based on:
- the quoted computation performances of >1 teraflop vs 2 teraflop?
- just looking at the specs we have for each?
- checking out the screens and the demos that are out for each so far?
- something else i'm not privy to?

I ask, just because after the ps3 unveiling today they look pretty close to me. By cutting back to only 1 cell u've really got something that looks like a ps2 with 5 extra vector processors, hardly revolutionary. Whether the 3.2ghz controller + 7 vector units is automatically much > than 3x3.2ghz core powerpc is not obvious I don't think. The nvidea hardware is beefy but it's in both ati and nvideas interest to give it their all for this so I call it a draw for the time being (until further information or benchmarks becomes available). The 360 appears to have twice as much system ram (512 vs 256) but whether that is very relevant is not clear.

The ps3 support for 7 controllers and 2 screens out of the box is awesome but I wouldn't equate that to "more powerful", its more like extra functionality and value.
The fact that the PS3 has 512 mb of RAM makes all the difference in this comparison, it really does. We may not see it in the first gen of games, but after a year release devleopers will really start to utilize it properly.
I'm mainly going by discussion in the other thread of people more knowledgeable than me, and that the rendered screens look better and the PS3 is a year+ away from launch, while the 360 is 6 months or so away.

But that's kind of a moot point as it's the games that make the difference to me, power is just a side point.

And unfortunately MS hasn't shown me that the 360 will have any more games in genre's I like than the X-box, other than a couple Japanese RPGs from the former final fantasy guy, which aren't enough to sway me much.
Hmmm well I would throw the same question at them then. Unless they have insider info then I'm not sure where they're coming from saying that the 'ps3 blows the 360 out of the water'. I'll cede your point on the time delay, although in theory the ps3 specs are now set. As for the rendered screens, it's still hard to know whats real and what's not so I'm not giving too much credit right now.

Me either. Have to wait to see in game videos. But I imagine they'll end up pretty similar in the end, with the PS3 having a slight edge (similar to X-box over PS2 this gen). But that's just a guess.

It won't really affect my purchase as I said, but I'm curious to see how it pans out and if all this PS3 buzz is warranted or just worthless hype.

I'm fully on board with you on this point. Its only the 'i'm getting the ps3 because it blows the 360 away !!!' type theme thats going around (not your posts) that I have issue with right now.

Re the games, isn't it looking very much like an xbox vs ps2 type comparison right now. eg.
sony has GTA4 vs MS has halo 3
sony has Tekken 6 vs MS has DOA4
sony has Final Fantasy 13 vs MS has Fable (??? bleah)
sony has GT4 - MS has Forza (?)
sony has DMC4 - MS has ???
sony has MGS4 - MS has ???
sony has bazillions of rpgs - MS has Morrowind and the 2 games from Mistwalker dudes

No doubt that MS will lose again on these terms. They desperately need to either start buying shares in respected studios namco, capcom, konami etc. and produce some exclusives that way, or come up with new fresh franchises that can compete head to head with Sonys staple line up of guaranteed hits.
Yep, similar indeed.

Another thing to consider is the "PS3 blows the X-box 360 out of the water" hype could be very damaging to MS even if it's not true.

Just like the PS2 hype killing the DC, and then it launching with games that looked worse than DC games.

Yeah that's why it annoys me to see it even on dvdtalk. I'm cool with the ps3 currently being ahead based on game lineup, or even on cool features (look of the console, 7 controllers, plus dual screen support, d0000000d!!), but the perceived performance difference is just not really there from what I can tell.
