Seriously.

You'd think that one of the very first "musts" for the next Xbox would be full backwards compatability. I mean, that should've been right up there on the list with hi-def and wireless capabilities.

Very disappointed.

Wouldn't they have to emulate it with software, whereas Sony could can emulate everything completely through hardware due to the PS1-3's architecture?

If the MS guys could emulate all XBOX games through software emulation without any major problems, they would be...gods.

Emulate? Architecture?

Brain hurting.....vision bluring.....something's burning in here.....big words....unfamiliar topic.....

Seriously though, I don't know how they'd do it. I don't care if they used Nazi magic to get it done, but by Gods I wanted it done and it wasn't. Poo-poo on them!

I'm still buying one, though.

"LOS ANGELES--Next-generation sports game fans have two more reasons to be happy. 2K Sports, a brand of Take-Two Interactive, has announced that the Xbox 360 has netted Top Spin 2, the sequel to the critically acclaimed Xbox game, and Amped 3, the third snowboarding game. "

Top Spin 2, wooooooo!

While I am a bit bummed that there is limited backwards compatibility it doesn't change my mind about getting one. When I get the 360 I'm going to use my XBOX as a jukebox so I'm still going to keep it hooked up and running. I'm not bothered by this move that much but I can understand why others will and I think it's going to hurt MS but I'm just not sure how much.

I still like the Xbox360 hardware, but damn the Sony interview totally killed the MS one. None of the games looked impressive after seeing the tech demos on the PS3. Granted Sony didn't show much in the way of in game footage, but none the less they did their damage to Microsoft and defintely put doubt in peoples minds. I think the limited backwards compatibility is going to be a major killer to the Xbox360. Hopefully MS will release the list of games supported soon because you know many people would want to use the Xbox as a trade in towards the 360.

MS still has the big advantage in online though. Live is better than any plan Sony has mentioned to this point and we will have to see if this is enough to carry the day for MS.

I totally see why Nintendo wanted to focus on another area besides hardware. There was no way anyone could touch the PS3 from that standpoint so everyone is trying to put the focus elsewhere. MS will really have to market Live and have some nice exclusive games to make people forget the PS3 come Christmas.

Well they lost a sale here. With a stack of unplayed games and a library of cheap ones still to be had I see no rush in getting the 360. If I was I wanted to sell/trade my current box to put a dent in the cost. Now I see I can't do that, so it definitely sounds like a price drop purchase now.

There is already a Xbox 360 vs PS3 thread. Use that for your comparison posts please. This thread is for Microsoft's E3 news and discussion of such.

I thought the Microsoft presentation was pretty shitty. Lots of rhetoric, not much substance. Then again, we already knew most of the features they talked about.

They were trying too hard to look cool and hip and really didn't say much. DoA4 trailer was really the only bright spot in the presentation.

Well, I'm sure Halo2 should be backward compatible. Hopefully I can play it on LIVE with XBOX 360 vs XBOX users. I know I want to get a 360, but my friends might be slow on the bandwagon.

I have two XBOX's anyways....so I could always just sell one and have a backup one (although I'm running out of inputs on my TV if I do that!)

I have the same problem. With all these HIDEF consoles, someone is going to have to come out with a high quality, relatively cheap component AV switcher (with optical audio as well).

Not very cheap, but very high quality. This is the one I use.

Heh, I forgot, the other requirements are it must have a remote control, and it must look sexy!

No remote, but it does auto switch. Just only have one component on at a time. Yeah, it's pretty ugly. It's hidden behind my TV for that exact reason.

Well, I use my Receiver to switch between my two HD component inputs. I have my DVR cable box and my XBOX. My DVD player is just hooked into a normal component input (since it's only 480p anyways). My Mits TV only has one HD input that is capable of 1080i

The limited backwards compatibility is a bit of a kick in the balls. I can only pray that they are really just being cautious and don't want to claim that 100% games will work when there might be a few % that do some quirky stuff and just may not work...

but still, i'm on the same page as pixy. I want support for panzer dragoon, JSRF, HOTD3, Gun Valkyrie.... to be honest, Halo, KOTOR are pretty much played out for me at this stage.

Have to wait and see...

Oh my God, I thought I was the only person that bought Gunvalkyrie. I hope you're right about them being cautious. One good thing to consider is the way the Xbox is setup, updates to the "emulation" can be downloaded via Live to improve compatibility rates if needed. I do think that the more unique games should not be overlooked because let's be honest, what good is backwards compatibility for Rainbow Six 3 when you've got Rainbow Six 5 on the new hardware or likewise with sports titles? Most of the popular Xbox titles that I'm afraid will have top priority on the compatibility are the kind of games that are made pretty obsolete when the next year's version comes out.

I guess some people really like backwards ability....to be honest, I NEVER played a PS1 game on my PS2 when I owned it. Althought, I can see XBOX being a bit more important since it's still NEW to some people. I just hope if they do make it backwards...that LIVE is included in that (which it should be)

Anybody get to the party last night? I started feeling a little sick when I went home, so I figured I'd lay down a bit and go at 7 or 8. I woke up this morning at 6am. Yes, I slept instead of getting to see the Chemical Brothers, The Killers and getting a limited-to-the-partygoers faceplate for the 360. Yes, I did that. Didn't know all that would be at the party, but I sure got a lot of sleep. Heading up to the roof right now...

well at least they made the xbox controller better, i never understood why they had those stupid little white/black buttons where they were. they could of just had them on the top. still, i will *not* be buying this thing at launch, no HDTV yet for me, most likely I will buy a new console and TV in 2007. We'll see how it goes.

No you don't Lionhead. I'm not buying into your crummy Fable 2 hype.

Yep, factor that in and that I'm seeing a lot more games that interest me on the PS3 than the 360 and MS is going to have to come up with some killer games in their first year or so to get me to pick up a 360.
