Nintendo Revolution is on my TOP LIST NOW! :)

Old NES, SNES, N64 for download (I missout alot old School classics games) and Nintendo Revolution let you dowload & Play them all :)

PixyJunket 05-17-05 03:40 PM

I think I may buy one at launch, Smash Bros. Online should be good enough for me. I'm not the biggest fan but I've already got friends that want one it would be great to finally have an online game we can get together and play. Phantasy Star Online was the last one that most of us cared to get into and that was back in the Dreamcast days. If Metroid Prime 3 is near launch there's no way in hell I'll be able to wait so I might as well accept the fact that I'll succumb to the first day hype. I think I owe Nintendo that much for actually getting me back into gaming (for better or worse).

So is the new gba just sort of like an updated one? like gba sp?

The fake one someone posted earlier with the cd and zelda playing on it looks better.

Yes, just smaller and with a better screen.

I wouldn't say this feature is revolutionary, but retro-gaming is quite the fad right now and they seemed to have noticed a market that can be tapped. I just hope they price them right. Free would be the best option, but not near as high as the $19.99 retro-GBA ports. I would like to see cell phone gaming prices if not free. $5 each sounds reasonable.

Josh H 05-17-05 03:48 PM

I agree, $5 each is more than reasonable. I'd buy quite a few games at that price.

I buy quite a few (understatement) NES games now at $5 a pop.

Yeah the GBA lineup was a bust. The problem was they took the idea from Japan where it worked and threw it out here where a compilation would've been MUCH more lucrative. Also, being downloads means no cost in pressing carts, labels for the carts, boxes, instruction manuals, marketing, etc. so cheap seems to be very, very likely. I wouldn't be surprised to see them try a couple of different options either. If they have single games to download that don't work out at one price they could have package deals, lower the price, etc.

This is a big question mark, but I'm betting the prices will be higher on each generation (NES, SNES, N64). Considering there is no cost for Nintendo in carts, packaging etc they should be able to deliver $5 or less NES games. $5 was about the price of the E-Reader games if memory serves.

Just give me Super Metroid and Super Mario RPG for $10 each and I will be knocking people down on launch day for one of these.

One other thought. Since we will be saving the games on SD cards what kind of security will the games have? I'm betting they will be tied to a personal account and you will have to activate the console to work with the downloaded games. Kind of like they do with ebooks and online music.

PixyJunket 05-17-05 04:01 PM

Now, if Nintendo announces one last 2D Metroid for GBA, I'd be VERY happy. :)

Josh H 05-17-05 04:10 PM

Yeah, I agree that it will probably vary by generation on what the downloads cost.

Of course, with it having an SD card slot, I'm sure someone will make a disc you can put in and then just play NES and SNES roms you download illegally. :D

This is just a thought, but I wonder if Nintendo would do something like make a new SNES Metroid game and simply sell it as a download exclusive? There is really nothing to stop small game developers from making new N64 or SNES titles for the Revolution if the games were good enough. Maybe even port over some of the titles from Japan that never got a stateside release.

Just a thought, I don't know if there would be enough interest.

PixyJunket 05-17-05 04:12 PM

Josh, I was thikning the same thing. The best part is all the fan-translated NES/SNES games! ;)

DaveNinja 05-17-05 04:16 PM

I wonder if any of the old games will be made to me multiplayer online. You could play RC ProAm against someone online.

That would be a great idea.

Though I think they might be hesitant for fear of taking aways some sales of their $50 Revolution online games.

Microsoft pimped the very idea as part of its Live Arcade. They mentioned having new old-school games made available that may not be ideal for full retail release. I don't think anything came of it. It's a good idea but I wouldn't set the limitations of the NES/SNES upon any developer (low level programming is hell). Perhaps some smaller games under that same concept could be made for the Revolution and put as downloads only. Smaller companies could possibly make some good old-style 2D shooters or platforms without having to worry about the expectations on the current retail market.

darkside 05-17-05 04:33 PM

Anyone checked out any of the game videos on Nintendo.com? The new Super Mario game looks very good, especially when you turn into the giant Mario. Mario and Luigi 2 has some nice game footage as well. Its kind of neat in both games how going down the warp pipe will take you to the lower screen.

Bunch of videos are here.

Can't find anything on Metroid Dread though. Don't know if that one was real after all.

That Kirby GCN game will be mine.

Please stop acting like Sony is on some higher level than everyone else. They all pull the same marketing gimmicks.

And how were they going to use the cheaper top loading dvd drive and integrate the ethernet adapter to stop production of that add-on? Stop acting like Sony did this as a gimmick. Microsoft uses the same exact ethernet adapter and dvd drive as they always have. They could have redesigned it, but what cost cutting measures would they gain? None. Sony used the oppotunity to streamline the manufacturing process and cut costs.

Sure, all console makers have their limited edition colors, but Nintendo has to be the worst. This new GBA.. what does it add that my SP doesn't have? It does nothing except this new one needs a screen protector and the other one didn't. Wow, thats fucking great. What progress.

Jtnguyen12 05-17-05 05:01 PM

Nintendo Revolution should be MINE ;)

Its smaller. Same progress as the PSone and PStwo.

From my understanding, the screen is better. DS quality over SP quality. But making an SP with a sticker that says "new screen" wouldn't sell. So, they redesigned the console. Also, as someone else mentioned, small and compact is in, and the fliptop SP is not an ideal solution for many. This would be.

You seem awfully set on pissing and shitting on this design for the sake of doing so. I'm all for criticism, but you act like Nintendo has personally killed your family dog with this new GBA. Move on.

I like the idea of a redesigned GBA, as it means I can get an extra SP for GC connectivity for cheaper this year.

outer-edge 05-17-05 05:21 PM

Like Pixy, I am also wondering what the status of Metroid Prime 3 is. I was really hoping for something, although we just got 2 not long ago. I would love to see Nintendo take the GC out with a bang: Zelda, Metroid, and some of the other series they are releasing this year still. But, Metroid could still be in the dark somewhere waiting for unveiling (Please let that be so!).

I'd also like another GBA Metroid, as well as a DS Metroid. Although Metroid Pinball does interest me as I love pinball games.

On another pinball note, did anyone else look at Odama? I am seeing references to the GameCube Mic. I've never heard of those plans before.

Outlaw 05-17-05 06:01 PM

I only read the snippets so far, but that sounds awesome. I've been waiting for something like this for a long time, to be able to get any retro game ever made and play it all on one system, thats an incredible feat, i would gladly buy them that (as long as it's not too unreasonable). I am very surprised no one thought of something like this sooner. I can name at least 10 games on the NES, SNES, N64 each that i'd buy in a heartbeat. but realistically its probably more than that. From those pictures it looks really tiny, like the size of a small book (I expect it to change a little before release though). Starting out your system with a launch library of 5,000+ games, thats insane. To quote pixy, its a definite "OVERLOAD!" And a dream come true for gamers :). Even without seeing any revolution games so far on it, just beacuse of that feature this is a guaranteed buy from launch day 1.

and I'm pretty sure IGN confirmed Metroid Prime 3, but i don't remember if they said it was cube or Revolution.
