I just got a call from my local Gamestop here in NYC and they said they would have my collector's ed. first thing 2morrow morning (11th) :D

darkside 01-10-05 07:13 PM

I just paid in full today. They gave me the soundtrack, but talked like the Collector's Edition wouldn't be in until Wednesday.

DARTH GAMER 01-11-05 10:59 AM

I talked to my local EB today and they said they would have this game in sometime in the afternoon today. It shipped last night and they went to pick it up this morning but had not returned yet. I can't wait. :D

Noonan 01-11-05 11:34 AM

I ordered mine from outpost doing the $38 with free shipping deal. Order status says item backordered...

Josh H 01-11-05 01:50 PM

I believe outpost says that for all pre-orders.

DiabolicalBunny 01-11-05 03:04 PM

I picked mine up from gamestop today! I get home all pumped to hook up the cube and try it out...then I found out when I let my gf and her brother borrow it, they left the av cord at their house =o( I will not be able to play it until later tonight. Ah well. Case looks cool, =o)

Grrr, lucky! I'm still holding out for Outpost and hoping that they'll actually ship this week instead of 2/11. When anyone gets to play it, please give spoiler-free impressions. :)

asianxcore 01-11-05 03:34 PM

did anyone's closest EB games get this in stock today? I know they said it won't be in until Wednesday, but this is me hoping to my copy before I head off to work today.

jediwicz 01-11-05 04:16 PM

My local EB received theirs but I ordered the CE at Gamestop and they don't get it until tomorrow.

Remember when Nintendo was so adamant about not having any violence on any of their systems that they went as far as changing the color of blood in fighting games from red to black or gray?

They've changed that policy a long time ago but have certainly come a long way with this: Chainsaw controller

Josh H 01-11-05 06:08 PM

That didn't last long. They did that for MKI on the SNES, and the Genesis version killed it in sales, and thus MKII came out uncensored, was the superior version and sold like hot cakes. :D

I picked up a copy of the collector's edition at my local Gamestop today. The red tin and the booklet (with a mini history of the RE series) are pretty nice. I've been playing the game for a little over an hour now and so far I'm really impressed. The emphasis seems to be more on action than puzzle-solving but it looks like an excellent action game.

PokerMan 01-11-05 06:49 PM

i got mine from gamestop today at 10am... the tin is cool, i also got a free game guide with it also.. not sure if it is nation wide or just certain stores... but heres a pic of the tin i found... my camera is not the best so this might help with others who wanna see what it looks like... this game is awsome time to go back and play it some more.. oh and i the guide i never buy guides untill after i beat the game or i can always find one online, but when he said its free cause i pre ordered the tin i was like heck ya...

Its a nice set, but damn I could do without that Gamestop logo even though it was an exclusive there.

Anyway nice and worth the extra $10 IMO. I can't wait to pick it up tomorrow.

I agree.
I guess when you pay for the exclusive rights to offer the tin you get to put whatever you want on the cover. Still, I think it's nice and makes a cool collector's item.

Hey, if it wasnt for Gamestop, i wouldnt have the oppurtunity to own such a cool set. So as far as i can see, i dont mind the Gamestop logo at all.
I opened my set Collector's Edition and found the Prologue book to be pretty informative. It pretty much breaks everything down thats happened in the series in a general form. Not bad for people who never played any or some of the games and want alittle back story before they play RE4.
But for those of you who want like an in depth timeline and breakdown of all the events that have occured in the RE games, check this out. Some guy wrote it and its pretty spot on. Ive played all the RE games and i was surprised at the level of effort he put into this. Be warned, its crazy long read, but worth it

huh? 01-12-05 05:02 AM

I am interested to hear what people have to say about this game, particularly those who did not like the controls on the remakes (GC). I found that I was torn with the original RE, the game's atmosphere was very impressive, the environments were awesome and at times spectacular, but the controls had me fighting to keep playing... Are the controls that much improved? I have read the reviews, but most are written from he perspective of someone who has played RE games from the get go. The first time I attempted a RE game was the remake on the GameCube.

darkside 01-12-05 06:36 AM

I dealt with the controls on the original PS2 version of 1 and 2. I dealt with them again and played all the way through the remake on the Cube. By the time I tried playing Zero though I was flat sick of them and never got very far into the game.

I can say that the controls for 4 are 100% better. The camera stays behind you and that eliminates most of my irritation with the control scheme. The only things that bugged me were the fact you can't shoot while moving or strafe. Minor gripes though.

PokerMan 01-12-05 09:06 AM

i love this game best game ever, beats halo in my book.. the controls are 110% better. theres a few things to get used to sometimes they will flash a button you have to use quick enough to dodge , but after a few times you get use to. i say if you have not bought the game yet get it. i have never went out and bought a new game on release day i have always waited for them to drop in price, so with all the good reivews i took a chance plus i have every RE game for the cube , PS 1, PS2 Dream cast.. and this is buy far the best RE so far...

i give hats off to Capcom for this one..

mmconhea 01-12-05 09:28 AM

does it support progressive scan or widescreen?

kgrogers1979 01-12-05 09:32 AM

Does this game have a lot of puzzles like previous Resident Evils or is it all action?

slop101 01-12-05 09:57 AM

The Gamestop version is actually $20 extra, since you can buy the game at Fry's for $38.

That tin and prologue book are not worth $20.

NO!

It's "fake" wide-screen - they basically cut off the top and bottom of the image so it would run better, what with all the crazy detailed, real-time graphics.

So if you're playing on a widescreen tv, you're screwed because you'll get bars on all sides of the image.

Noonan 01-12-05 10:13 AM

According to IGN, the game is progressive scan, but not anamorphic so the game gets extra stretched when being played on a widescreen TV. Here's their quote.

"The downside to all of this is that Capcom has forced everything into a letterboxed perspective, presumably to keep the framerate afloat. Resident Evil 4 does not support a true 16x9 anamorphic widescreen mode, which is definitely disappointing since every other aspect of the title exceeds current technology. Rather, it's much more like Ubisoft's Beyond Good & Evil. If you happen to own a widescreen television with a zoom feature, you're still sitting pretty. We played Resident Evil 4 on a 50" plasma using the zoom function and we can verify that it looked phenomenal from beginning to end. However, we understand that some sets on the market automatically force progressive-scan pictures into 16x9, which will simply not work with Resident Evil 4, an unfortunate truth. Gamers with these sets will need to make a decision: forego progressive scan or play in ultra-stretched mode."

havuk 01-12-05 11:03 AM

there aren't any black bars on my 50" dlp 16:9 set while playing this game...
