Exactly. I'd have been surprised at that, as for one a chain saw isn't going to decapitate someone real quick in real life, takes a while to get through bone. :D
That wasn't major by any means, I was just more posting it to encourage people to use the spoiler tags in the future as people get further and start asking questions and what not. I usually avoid threads about games I haven't played, but I'm very much on the fence about this one and want to read all the impressions of it. |
If it's any consolation, it happens barely 10 minutes into the game.

Hmm, I remember the chainsaw guy showing up early in the demo, but in the regular game I didn't run into him until much later. Yes, he cut my freaking head off to.
Without going into detail there are some rather cool ways to die in this game, including one where I won the boss battle and relaxed, but didn't realize I needed to hit the dodge buttons and ended up getting Ashley killed and had to redo the whole boss battle. Long story short, never put down your controller or relax while playing this game. Oh and buy a Rocket Launcher when you can and hold on to it for boss battles. Some of the boss battles are a bitch with a pistol or shotgun. |

This game is so damn good, I honestly don't know if I can go back and play another RE game after experiencing RE 4. P.S. I've never enjoyed dying in a game as much as I have in this one, so many great ways to bite the bullet. I was actually concerned long ago when the first screenshots of the chainsaw guy hacking into Leon were revealed - I figured it would be lame and the guy would hack deep into Leon, yet he would survive with a minor wound, kill the guy and walk away. Thankfully, that is not the case. |
This is probably the best game I have played for the cube...i can't stop playing it.
|
i should be picking up my copy soon enough, unfortunately my bro is borrowing my gamecube at the moment.
just read the gamespot 9.6 review, can't wait to pick it up now! :) I went to ebgames hoping they would have it in their GC kiosk for demo so I could play this but not yet. |
Just started Chapter 4 tonight. Nice little curve they throw at you at the end of Chapter 3. This game is top notch in every area. I'm getting to be a heck of a shot with a sniper rifle as well.
|
Just started playing this last night, and boy is it intense! I only beat the first act, so far the game seems pretty hard. I never really had a problem with the controls of the previous games, but on this one, I wish there was a way to strafe. I'm getting freaked out whenever I have to turn a corner blindly.
|
I have tried to play the previous RE's before this one and could never get very far in them. My buddy picked this up and let me give it a whirl at his house, oh man this game is good. I will be buying it tommorow :D
|
This game is going to be Gamecubes game of the year (since we all know Zelda isn't coming out, cmon...). So far ive logged 10 hours and Im on chapter 4.2
|
I wouldn't say Zelda is not coming out. Lets wait for E3 at least, but yup this one will be hard to top.
|
I would not say 100% ironclad guarantee, but without a doubt unless Nintendo is truly stupid Zelda WILL come out this year. Unfortunately I do not think it will be until almost the end of the year. If I recall reports were that it was supposed to come out this summer, which I definitely do not see but you never know. I do not have RE4 yet, but personally I do not see that it will be better than a realistic Zelda for game of the year.
|
I definitely think this is a very intense game, but I still think the controls could use some tightening. You're some kind of super special agent, but god forbid you actually have some agility. I should be able to strafe around corners, and get the hell out of dodge before taking a cheap hit because he moves like molasses. I understand that this is probably intentional to rack up the fear that you might not get away, but I think it's a cheap way to do it.
Don't take that as me saying I don't enjoy the game because I definitely do. It is extremely fun, and like other posters said, I can only take it in smaller doses. And the fact that I continue to play, shows the controls are still good enough. I couldn't even play the other RE's because I hated the controls so immensely. |
haven't seen anyone talk about the weapon choices except someone mentioning using rocket launcher for certain bosses.... which do you think (weapons wise) are the best? i'm going to start over (on chapter 4.2 now) and not upgrade whenever i can so that i can have better weapons down the line... any suggestions? i'm also planning on using the kick after shooting, and then knifing them when they are down combo so that i can have some ammo later on too.... but again... which weapons are keepers to upgrade on? i figure not upgrading the shotgun/rifle/handgun until i can get the assault rifle/riot gun, what do you guys think? also wish i had remembered where the treasures are to have not to buy the maps for 10g...
|
Hmm, I remember the chainsaw guy showing up early in the demo, but in the regular game I didn't run into him until much later. As far as weapons go, I am using the Striker, the Auto-rifle, and the Black Tail. I have had plenty of money even with upgrading my previous weapons and buying the treasure maps. The treasure maps pay for themselves in one find. I also have the XL case which is sweet. The kick is a must learn. Also, use the pistol as much as you can. You really only want to use the shotgun in a crowd or against real bad mofos. Oh, if you think the chainsaw guy is a bitch, wait until you run into the chainsaw wenches. -wink- -Dean- |
Keep in mind, if you upgrade weapons, the merchant will buy the guns for more money. I beleive half of the upgrade. Remember, if there are upgrades available, BUY them. Trust me, you don't want to have a handgun with only a 10 bullet chamber instead of a 25.
|
I would upgrade your weapons. I pretty much only upgraded my firepower though. Some of the other upgrades seem like a waste of money unless you have more money than you know what to do with.

I could use some help, in chapter 2-3...

Yeah I couldn't figure this one out either so I just left it. I also suck at battling what you mentioned. |

Missed it myself my first time through, without the treasure map, and it took me a hell of a long time to find it on my second time through, even with the map that time. :) |
Waaaah! I want to play the demo! I've never been into RE. I rented one of the cube versions a long time ago, but didn't care much for it. I guess I should also mention that I can't get into Eternal Darkness either. But I'm reading REALLY good things about this game. Is there any way to get the demo other than eBay? I don't think it makes sense to just go buy it since I'm not really a survial horror fan (yet).
