Is Resident Evil 4 like a typical 3rd person action game?

but obviously much more...
And not like any of the other Resident Evil games in terms of stiff controls, etc. I never got into the 1st I tried for the Gamecube because of the control scheme and finding objects the hard way you were supposed to or whatever, but looking at movies for this it seems more in the lines of Eternal Darkness & Metal Gear 2. Am I correct and this game will be much like that in terms of 3rd person perspective action games? Please tell me so because I love them.

Also, is the shooting enemy scheme just like a point and shoot with just one analog control stick and do not have to use the two (C-stick as well)?

Thanks for all the fo.

The controls are much improved from the normal RE games, but it can still be a bit tough in tight spots with a lot of villagers coming. Basically you move with the left stick. When you hold R down you then use the left stick to control your weapon. So far I have found the aiming of the gun very difficult. I usually don't play FPS games because I dislike the manual aiming. This one is really tough because you can't move when you switch to your gun and you have a bunch off guys coming for you. I wish I could aim and shoot while backing up.

I'm very impressed with the look of this game and it really looks like an excellent shooter. Problem for me is I don't typically like shooters and if I didn't like playing Halo I don't see how I will like playing this game either. I think the manual aiming will be the deal killer for me. Should be great for normal FPS gamers though. The demo level is insane and if this is just the opening of the game it should be one of the best shooters ever.

I have the LE ordered at Gamestop. Still don't know if I will cancel it or not. I finished the first remake on the Cube, but never got far in Zero. I may want to spend my $60 on something else and just rent RE4.

OldBoy 01-08-05 11:54 AM

put $5.00 down today on RE 4, got the demo disc and just played.......WHAT AN AWESOME LOOKING AND PLAYING GAME!!!!

I have never been into the RE games and hated 1 because of the controls, but I'm playing this and if the expanded edition is just more of the same as the demo I am in for just an incredible ride and one i believe i haven't taken with the cube since my all time favorite game..."Eternal Darkness"!!! I know it doesn't exactly control and def different games, but WOW!!!

Thanks to all you gave me some in sight at least.

POSER!!! j/k  Personally speaking I've been a fan of the series from the first game onward, bad controls and all. However there is a solution for the control problem in RE:Remake (GC). The Gameboy player controller that was made for the Cube works great with Resident Evil. Getting used to the analog stick for that game was uncomfortable, and with every RE game I've only used a D pad.

HOnestly I've never been too bothered by the control scheme on RE series. Once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy to run with. The only thing I do hope doesn't happen is that this game IS just a shooter. RE was always about atmosphere, puzzles, and action, not just action, so hopefully they don't lose too much of those other things.

This one will definitely not just be a shooter. It has atmosphere out the ass and I think the puzzles and strategy are there as well. For one thing you really have to think when fighting. Blocking and shooting through doorways or finding other cover. Its more than just standing there pulling the trigger. Capcom has really outdone themselves with this one.

Resident Evil has always been plagued with bad controls. Interesting thing is I thought the control scheme for the RE games on the Cube were a lot easier to deal with then the ones on the PS2. Aiming and running is just easier on the cube controller layout.

Well, I called Outpost earlier today to ask about the backorder, and the CSR said the computers indicated RE4 was shipping 2/11, but he thinks its an error because he said he knows its supposed to be out 1/11. As far as my order is concerned, I placed it after 12am ET Saturday morning, so they won't know until Monday if I got my order in for the first shipment. I know this is the RE4 thread, but another game on sale at Outpost (now dead), Zelda Minish Cap is set to ship out on 1/13.

OldBoy 01-09-05 09:55 AM

so what exactly are the new controls like? and what other GC games can they be likened to?

The aiming is very much Splinter Cell, when you click the aim button the camera goes over your shoulder. As far walking controls and such its pretty much the same as any other RE, except the camera is behind you at all times.

OldBoy 01-09-05 04:39 PM

do you NEED a strategy guide to get through this game and enjoy it?

Since the game isn't even out yet, my guess would be that you don't need a strategy guide to get through and enjoy this game. It would be stupid of Capcom (or any developer) to make a game enjoyable and beatable only with a strategy guide.

Personally, beating a game is more satisfying without the use of a walkthrough.

A few reviews listed on this website for RE4. Apparently...it's pretty damn good. I know what I'm doing on tuesday.

I must have played the Demo about atleast 10 times! I simply cannot wait for this game to come out. Being a huge Resident Evil fav( own almost every game except for the crappy gun ones-ptth-), i welcome the new gameplay changes and the new storyline. Even though it hurts me to really think theres no zombies at all in this one, its ok i guess (i still have a feeling theres gonna be a few towards the end.)
I have my Collector's Edition already paid for and come this Tuesday im gonna be all over it like stink on doo-doo!

kgrogers1979 01-10-05 04:19 AM

Gamespot's review is up:

http://www.gamespot.com/gamecube/adv...l4/review.html

Gamespot gave it a 9.6 and said it is the greatest action/horror game ever created.

Draven 01-10-05 06:38 AM

Well, I got an email from Outpost.com saying the game was out of stock and they would hopefully be able to fill the order within 30 days.

That's fine, I guess. I'm not in a big hurry. Would have been nice to get this week though...

The local EB Games said they would have it on the 11th, they had delivery set up for same day as ship day.

peon73 01-10-05 11:14 AM

Frys will have it on wednesday for 39.99. I can't wait!!!!

OldBoy 01-10-05 01:03 PM

i have been eagerly panting another survival-horror game on the Gamecube since i completed "Eternal Darkness" 4 times way back when. I followed Silicon Knights to see if they would put out another, any game for the cube, but it was to my dismay.

It seems "Resident Evil 4" will be that second coming that I so longed for except on a much more advanced, detailed, and thrilling level!

Tell me I am wrong...

TheMadMonk 01-10-05 03:57 PM

All the ads I've seen show it coming out on the 11th. Where did the wednesday rumors come from?

ThePrimeDreamer 01-10-05 04:34 PM

only game specific stores like EB or Gamestop actually get games on thier release dates while other stores get them later. Best Buy I think has theirs in on Thursday.

check both EB and Gamestop...both have the ship date as 11th, that means to stores and customers. don't get your hopes up, anyway one day isn't bad.

asianxcore 01-10-05 05:55 PM

talked to someone who worked at EB today and they said they would be getting it on Wednesday. game companies should just advertise dates as the day after ship dates, since most stores don't get the games until a day + after ship dates.

TheMadMonk 01-10-05 06:13 PM

Guess I was wrong about the date. Bummer.
