I think it depends on the game, actually. You're probably safe with any 1st party game, but be careful with others. If I remember correctly, if you close the lid while playing Feel the Magic (Sega), it doesn't even pause. I can't remember if the backlights turn off or not.

looks like MS has no plans for a handheld just yet:
Breaking: Rare Preps for DS Development
7/7/2005, 10:53am Eastern Time
Rare has announced a hiring opportunity on its official site for developers to work on the Nintendo DS. This presumably confirms they have software in mind for Nintendo's handheld. Take a look:
GAMES PROGRAMMERS (NINTENDO DS) Must be motivated, enthusiastic and skilled in C/C++ to join our dedicated handheld team, recently nominated for a Develop Industry Excellence Award. 3D skills also an advantage in creating high-profile titles for this unique system.
EXPERIENCED 3D ARTISTS (NINTENDO DS) Good understanding of 3D packages (preferably Maya), strong modeling and texturing abilities, imagination and motivation are all required from anyone hoping to join our Develop award-nominated team in creating key DS titles.
Rare is responsible for such titles as Donkey Kong Country, GoldenEye, and Banjo-Kazooie. We’ll let you know more about this breaking news as it comes in. (pcr)

Yeah, MS owns the majority of Rare now, so they have pretty much total control on what systems the port games on. So console games will be X-box and X-box 360 only. But they'll let them make DS and GBA games to make extra profit. Maybe even PSP, but probably not since MS views Sony as their direct competition.

I just hope if they do a DS game it doesn't take 6 years to finish.

Well, since there are two screens it will probably take 12 years.

This site http://www.akkit.org/DS/E3/ that has the wifi downloads for the DS has added some new ones. Most of the new ones are Japanese Guru Guru Nagetto, and Famicom Wars.

Metroid Prime Hunters Bundle Looming?
7/14/2005, 12:34am Eastern Time
Cheap Ass Gamer, a site that scours the retail world for low prices, special deals, and various offers for video games, has allegedly found out froma trusted source that Nintendo will be bundling Metroid Prime Hunters with a Nintendo DS some time this fall.
The individual who runs CAG, naturally, has numerous friends who work for major video game outlets like EB Games and GameStop. It was also one of these sources who (accurately) informed CAG of the Super Mario 64 DS bundle that buoyed sales of the system last month. The Metroid bundle will retail as normal for $150, and should become available shortly after the game's solo debut.

If this is true, wouldn't this support the idea that the game is actually good? Seems foolish to include a crappy game, that is unless you can't sell it otherwise...
Furthermore, shouldn't Nintendo include a title that is wireless enabled? For all their talk about getting 80-90% saturation of DS gamers online, it would make much more sense to provide a wi-fi enabled game.
So, for an optimist, Nintendo has made the game good and added wifi, thus the reason for the delay. For the pessimist, the game sucks and Nintendo may be resulting to "giving" it away.

Got one yesterday. Been having fun with it.
I picked up the Electric Blue color. I got it from Game Stop and they had a special going where if you buy a new DS, you get Mario 64 DS for free
The special was supposed to end on the 12th, but since the sign was still up, the manager said he'd honor it. I didn't know it expired until he said so. But since his store had the sign up, he was cool and honored it.
I also picked up Wario Ware Touched. My god, that game is a blast.

Anyone else interested Nanostray? I've been looking forward to this game for a while and am glad to see it at least got an 8 from IGN. They said it's one of the most visually stunning DS titles yet but the touch screen weapon switching was tricky. I'm in need of a break from my Meteos marathons so Nanostray will do nicely until Nintendogs invades next month.

I'm having trouble keeping up with games for the DS, there are too many must have games coming out. Going to try and pick up Nanostray, the preview on the website looks really nice!
I'm still addicted to Meteos

I guess no one got the free Nintendog e-mail from Nintendo. I didn't get one either but evidently Nintendo gave away advance copies to a select few My Nintendo members. Bastard Nintendo, I have 35 items registered and ain't getting no respect. It may be a good thing though because my wife would have snagged it the minute I opened the package.

I went ahead and ordered Nanostray on GameStop.com. By using FREESHIPALL for free shipping, the total ended up being less than it would be in most, if not all, b&m stores.
I just hope it actually ships!
