I was still regretting my DS purchase until seeing that and the Kirby video yesterday. Very cool.

I feel like I will regret my DS purchase until the day either Advance Wars or Animal Crossing comes out...

I'm not down on the system, I do feel like it's very innovative, I'm just surprised that we don't even have a release date yet for these titles (to my knowledge, at least)...

Here we go, the DS is going online:
March 10, 2005 - At the Game Developers Conference keynote speech today, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata revealed that Nintendo will be sending its Nintendo DS online wirelessly to enable gamers around the world to connect to each other in games written specifically for the protocol.
Once the service begins later this year, Nintendo DS users will be able to connect to the service wirelessly at universal Wi-Fi hot spots in use all over the world. Nintendo's in-house development team is already creating Animal Crossing DS to support global Wi-Fi connectivity.
During the speech, Iwata took part in eight-player wireless competition of Mario Kart DS with audience members to demonstrate the local-area wireless support already inherent in several Nintendo DS games. More details on the Wi-Fi service will be revealed at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles this May.
Iwata also used his keynote speech today to reveal that shipments of DS systems have surpassed four million units in North America and in Japan in the 16 weeks on the market. That number will approach six million when the system launches in Europe this March.
During the speech, Iwata demonstrated two key Nintendo DS games to spotlight the unique gameplay aspects and non-traditional gaming of the dual screen handheld. Nintendogs was highlighted to demonstrate the voice and touch controls of interacting with realistic puppies on-screen. Electroplankton also made its debut to show the innovative use of the DS' control properties. According to Iwata: "This is designed to produce harmony, not adrenaline."

The Revolution will have built in Wi-Fi as well. I can pretty much see where that is leading. Both will work online which is great, but both will probably end up working together as well. That and backwards compatibility with the Cube has me very interested in the Revolution.

I have to be honest... I have less time than ever to play videogames, but I'll probably end up owning all three systems. maybe not on release day, but I'm such a sucker for videogame systems...
Back to the DS: I've seen EGM put a release date on Animal Crossing as Summer of this year... is that a tentative date, and if not is that Japan's release date?

I really wish they would release a new 2D Metroid in the vein of the new Castlevania. Instead we're getting what Metroid Prime tried so hard not to be (a typical FPS) and Metroid Pinball? Anyways, if Nintendo really wants to excite the DS crowd, they need to stick the upcoming Final Fantasy III remake on their lists.

IGN posted some videos for Nintendogs:

I only have an SP and will be picking up a PSP, but for some reason after watching the videos, I'm debating on trading in my SP towards a DS. I thought it was pretty cool, I guess being that me and my gf are pet owners also adds to it.

Animal Crossing DS has me pretty pumped about being a DS owner, but I'm going to end up with that Nintendogs as well. My wife bought her own DS mostly to play Zoo Keeper and Wario Ware, but Nintendogs and Kirby are both very high on her list of games to get.

My wife asks everyday when Nintendogs is coming out. She too is a Zoo Keeper adict but she really wants 'dogs. She has all the PC Dogz/Catz games and this is driving her nuts. Elektroplanktin is another innovative "game" I now want to try. NOA needs to get those download stations up soon.

This is another reason I bought the DS. Not just for this game mind you, but for the ideas and things that are possible with this system. I'm such a sucker for weird and different games.
