Nintendo DS price and dated

Man a $150 seems to much for a handheld when I could get a xbox for that price. I'm damn sure going to skip this one.

Why is everyone acting so surprised? $150 is the price point that was expected. Some even placed it a little higher. An article in the Times today confirmed that they're aiming the system at teens and adults. That's a reasonable price point for that market considering the system's capabilities. And if you don't like that, you're going to be really disappointed when the PSP streets at between $250 and $300.

According to Gamespot, the DS will come bundled with Metroid Prime: First Hunt demo which features four-player wireless play. Also, PictoChat, the DS drawing-and-text-based chat utility, will be embedded in the DS hardware so all DS users will be able to chat wirelessly with each other--right out of the box.

I also don't care about the PSP. I mean putting both system next to a xbox makes the price point so damn bad looking. Yes I know it's not the same market but still damn I just can't help it. Also if the PSP comes out for $200 N$ is forked in the held held market when it comes to teens and adults.
The PSX2 is $50 more then the GC and it has no prob hammering the GC into the ground.

I get $ony and M$ because the dollar signs easily replace the 'S', hence, good satire. But Nintendo is just 'N'. So adding a dollar sign to it looks forced at best. Maybe if you tried really hard you could get the British pound symbol in there, or turn the 'e' into a Euro.

It wasn't anywhere near $190, though. Much lower. On a side note, it is interesting (and a little frustrating) that consoles are one of the few retail items that see little or no decrease from the MSRP to the actual price at retail.

Are most people just so damn cheap? Advance was $100 when it came out, so your paying an extra $50 4-5 years laters for another new portable system (Does not include if you bought the SP, since it was just a new model). Damn, just shocks me.
I also love the people who say "I can get an Xbox/PS2 for the same price". Well, yeah, you sure can. Good luck putting either of those in your pocket, or playing them on the train/plane.

I'm pretty sure the original, huge white GB didn't break the 100 dollar barrier, but I can't remember. The Lynx and other color portables were definitely in the 200 range, though.
It's not just the price that concerns me, but the fact that this is more like a GBA 1.5 than the next Gameboy. Nintendo's even admitted as much, which makes me hesitant to invest in a system that may have a limited shelflife (maybe not as bad as the Virtual Boy, but still).

This is priced just right IMO. It would be nice if it was lower, but $150 for what this thing can do is a steal. Looks like I'm getting one now. I do agree the games should be less than $50 though. $40 would be a better price range, but stores usually have good sales on Game Boy software so it may happen with the DS. Oh I'm sorry, the D$.

There's virtually no way I'm paying $150 for a handheld system on general principle - I'd have to be blown away. The SP was just about the perfect combination of form and function, IMO; the DS is...well, not. As much as I am satisfied with my SP purchase, the fact remains that I played few non-Nintendo games.
I sincerely doubt that the features which add to the cost will amount to anything more than any of Nintendo's other gimmicks. Also, I have no reason to believe that the third-party support will be any better than before.
