Once I figured out Popeye's double-laser attack, it was no problem:

If my score stands up, I choose Pooyan.

POOYAN!

Mordred takes prettier screenshots

On the other hand, Pooyan is easier than Qix, so hooray for GoVegan!

I know.

I've never taken screenshots with Mame, so I hit F12 a few times, and then alt-tabbed out of the game to see if I'd done it correctly. The only screenshots I got are the one I posted or a black screen that says Game Over. I didn't quite get past level 4. Close, but some ugly witch clocked me in the back of the head with a bottle.

Mordred cheated on his screenshot and just waited for the demo screen to come up Popeye goes to black too fast, and I just like to give people crap about their screenshots because I'm the only one that uses the artwork files (They will be more important if we play Star Castle)

I've never played Qix before, but I've played one of those horrendous nudie versions.

What a bizarre concept: We'll let people play as Ronald Reagan or Punky Brewster, then let them slowly reveal a naked woman... OR SOME GIGERESQUE CREATURE FROM THE PITS OF HELL!

I use all of the artwork files, too. I'm a little behind rom-wise, but I've got a full set from the .66 version of MAME, along with all the cabinet pictures, flyers, etc. It's not really necessary, but I like having all that stuff.

I was going to try a little harder at Popeye, until I realised that Pooyan was the only game on that list I wanted to play!

Level 5. You can't tell from this pic but I was on the second level right under Blutto, stuck on the stairs because a skull was hopping below me. I was about to grab the spinach but Blutto reached down and grabbed me. For the record I made it to level 3 and 46.5k on my first man.

BTW, If anyone beats this score I'm going to kill them!

MODRED!!!

DEVILSHALO!!!!!

I've been playing Popeye for a half an hour now, trying to top the 69K score, and now I come back and it's up to 74K?

Not that it matters. I've only managed to hit 62K.

GoVegan and I are going to the book forum to setup a Retro Splitter Sub-50k Popeye Challenge Thread...

I guess my Pooyan practice session has been in vein!

Yeah, I already had the Pooyan cabinet posted on the web page because last Sunday was nice and quiet. I went ahead and changed it to Congo Bongo, but I'm still hoping somebody beats him.

I hate you so much now.

BTW, I hear devilshalo is going on an extended vacation. He may be gone for a year or more, so nobody worry if he stops posting.

I'm done with Popeye though. I can't waste another hour or so trying to beat that score

Just so I can join the hated club, here's another screenshot:

I may still play another game or two, though.

All right. So close, but I'm giving up now. I'm not going to top that score tonight. I guess Pooyan won't be hitting the rotation yet.

When the heck did you change this screenshot? That beats devilshalo's score. That wasn't the original picture in that post and you never announced it. Now I'm not sure who gets to be Steve Perry's groupie

Oh no he's not.

I rescued Journey twice and and made it through 2 of the 5 levels again. I should have beaten the drum level but one of the flying things caught me in the head right as I was about to finish it.
