You're saying it's not fun? It's basically the same game as Tron and lots of people like that. I don't think Zaxxon is fun (because I die a lot) but I know somebody is going to pick that.

Answer me this: would you rather play Journey or Star Castle? (just kidding devilshalo )

For the record I like Journey, precisely because it's so ludicrous. If my score stands I'll be picking one of the most difficult games ever (at least for me!). Maybe I shouldn't tip my hand just yet though.

You died without getting any more points after that screenshot? Most difficult game ever, eh? I'm guessing Defender. I hated that game!

edit: nevermind, I just realized it must be the demo screen. duh

Yeah, I died on level 4 after I came real close to beating it, but the screen goes to black really quick so that's what I got a screenshot of. I decided to wait until I had something a little prettier to screencap

As for the most difficult game ever, I'm not sure about that. But it's an older game that I've played on Mame off and on for a while and I've never been able to crack the default high score. I'm curious to see how people do.

Speaking of high scores, why won't mame32p keep those after resetting?

If it's anything like the regular non-gui mame, you need to download and copy a file to your mame directory. I think it's called highscores.dat or something like that.

Thanks for looking out for me. I'll wait until next week then. Who's got the current high score on Popeye, anyway...

Hey, wait a minute!

I think your Popeye record is safe. Sometimes I'm surprised, though, when I try playing one of the old Atari games I used to waste hours and hours playing. When I break out any of the old Activision games, I can usually play just as well now as I could then.

Download hiscore.dat
from the MAME32 Help File:
This file facilitates the creation of hi-scores in a large number of Mame32 games. This file is needed if the original arcade game did not maintain its hi-score table after being reset or turned off. Note that this file is an externally supported database, not every candidate game is supported in it. Place this file in \mame32 alongside Mame32.exe and verify that a \hi directory exists. This file must be used to get hi scores in most early games.

How funny then that I have the high score on Journey to get to Star Castle

I knew I was missing something with Popeye. I was playing for about fifteen minutes, wondering why it was so hard, and then I remembered that you're supposed to be able to punch. By then I was out of time, so I didn't play after that. I don't think I'll be a danger to anyone's high scores.

I could try to find a lamer trophy as the booby prize for the lowest score, but it's hard to top a gold Atari 2600.

I found control panel pictures at www.mamehot.net. Maybe they will help I'll keep them on the web page with the roms.

Argh. My current top score for both Popeye and Journey is around 35,000. I'd never played Journey before. I owned a copy of Journey Escape for the Atari, though. I'm sure the game has fans, but I kept laughing while I was playing because it's such crap. (Says the person who's played it at least ten times now, and counting.)

Well I'm not sure if I'll be around this weekend, so if my score holds up the game is...... Qix! Don't all thank me at once

You could've at least picked one of the versions that let you slowly reveal a nudie pic
Seriously, which looks like more fun, or ?

Qix and Star Castle are where it stands right now, so I guess if my score stays up I should pick something a little more mainstream

Right now I'm leaning towards Joust...or Mario Bros., Tapper, Bomb Jack or Flicky

Well, in that case, I may have to change to Mr. Do.

I bought a logitech controleer. I enabled the controller in the options window. It works for 1943 but not for burgertime or donkey kong. What am i doing wrong?

Have you played those nude games? Just when you start to reveal something good they turn into this:

It's hard enough to get aroused playing a video game and when they randomly turn into freakish monsters from the depths of hell... well that will seriously ruin your fun, trust me.

the best place is usenet (alt.binaries.emulators.mame and alt.binaries.emulators.misc) Other than that www.mameromlinks.com might be useful. That's the last advice I'm going to give about finding roms. Just be glad playagain.net exists and hasn't been threatened with legal action by the ESA

This is why I'm hosting the 3 current roms each week. Use Google if you want any more info.

As for the logitech controller, while you are in the game hit Tab and go into Inputs(General) to change the default controls for all the games. The way it worked with my Xbox controller by default was the analog stick, so I changed it there to use the d-pad.
