Where is the buzz with DOOM 3?
The game comes out in less than 3 days and I don't see any buzz here for it! What's up guys? Do you know something I don't about this game? I'm seriously pumped to play this. I'm going on vacation so I'll be playing this game on the plane. Can't wait!
|
My machine can't handle the game, otherwise I'd be much more excited about it. I need to upgrade my video card in order to play it, unfortunately I can't afford that right now :( If you haven't already heard from other places on the Net, some BestBuys have already started selling Doom 3, so check with your local store if you're that desperate to play it and pay (I believe their price is) $54.99.

My machine can't do the dance either. Is ID going to release a linux version? I'm to lazy to look. :)

Doom 2 was just more levels of the first game with pretty much the same engine, graphics, and engine. I think I'll pass this go-around.

In Canada it comes out the 4th of august. Got my reserved copy and can't wait to try it on my new system!

Been playing it for a bit today... so far so good. Great atmosphere, and of course the graphics are top notch. The aliasing is a bit more noticable then i thought they would be, especially after HardOCP's hardware guide said Anti-aliasing wasn't that important. The characters look great, especially their faces. Very detailed, except for some blocky heads. The game is VERY dark. It's incredibly hard to see enemies, and since you cant have a flashlight and gun on at the same time, its really easy for guys the get a jump on you. The sound is great... a lot of ambient sounds, screams, and voices. Glad i have 5.1 speakers on my PC.
So far the game runs well on my computer at 1024x768 at High Quality. A few dips here and there in frames, but nothing too dramatic. I'm ususally hovering around 40 frames most of the time, with some drops to the 20's and some rises to the 50's. My system: Mobile Athlon XP 2600 @ 2.33 ghz 1 gig RAM Radeon 9700 Pro |

A few Best Buys broke street date yesterday. But from what i hear, the stores got in trouble and were told to pull them. A few stores might bring them out early tomorrow like Gamespot.

If there's a Cube or PS2 port coming, I'd buy. And I did get sorta buzzed from that other thread here in VGTalk. I went out and tracked down used copies of the two PS1 titles. Been enjoying them quite a bit. |
Originally posted by tonytapez oh please  Anyone who's actually buying a copy... if you can wait until August 6th (or don't have a Best Buy near you) then the price at Circuit City will be $44.99. That's a good $10 less than most places. :) |

Originally posted by Groucho While it won't be coming out for those consoles, any game that comes out to Xbox can be ported to either of those. Get Me Coffee: I think your notebook should run it just fine at medium quality. The Mobility Radeon is about on par with the desktop 9600. You'll be fine  More gameplay notes... ammo is pretty scarce, although i havent run out yet i've gotten pretty low on shotgun and machine gun ammo. The pistol sucks :P There's a lot of areas where you need to search for key codes, whether listening to audio you download on to your in game PDA or going through other people's emails. I even reached a point where i had to visit a website to find the code :) Enemies are tough once they're right up next to you. Getting hit knocks you around and makes it difficult to aim and recover. Anyway... so far the game has definitely lived up to the hype. A few VERY creepy aspects already about an hour into the game. Edit: P.S. You definitely want to try and get the codes to open things when you can. |

Originally posted by fumanstan Considering that early Xbox demonstrations show the game, not only running a bit choppy, but also with a noticable decrease in graphical quality versus the PC, i can't imagine the game running well at all on either the Gamecube or Playstation 2 without MAJOR sacrifices. |

Originally posted by milo bloom Thank you. Hell, I lived with Doom on the 32X for many years. And if not on this generation of systems, than the PS3 or Revolution should be more than capable of playing it. |

Not that I'd buy this game on ANY console. Of course, considering how good i think this game is so far, 200 dollars for an Xbox and Doom 3 is worth it for someone who doesn't want to pay 400 dollars to upgrade their PC. Even for someone who keeps taking jabs at avoiding the Xbox. |
Looking forward to playing Doom 3 after I get a new gaming rig. So what's the verdict on Doom 3 is it anything special? Is it Doom on steroids?
I'll pretty much pick it up regardless because it brings back great memories. Just wondering if id did anything trendsetting or are behind the times. Thanks. |

On a different note, I just checked with my local EB and they will have the game tomorrow (Monday) for those who have pre-ordered it. Can't wait to pick it up! :) |
What are my chances of running this game?

Originally posted by Tamrok Based on what I've read, Doom 3 plays very differently from the previous Doom games. It's not a run and gun shooter with swarming enemies. Apparently it's more dark and moody with more deliberately paced gameplay. That's fine with me as I've gotten a bit tired of the mindless shooters. As for neiname, you should be fine on High Quality at 1024x768. |
Originally posted by fumanstan I think the difference is big enough that neither the PS2 or Gamecube could do it justice. |
Originally posted by Groucho That's what people said about Splinter Cell. |
Originally posted by Tamrok Carmack himself has stated that Xbox is the only current generation console that can reproduce Doom 3 in all it's graphic fidelity. He ought to know best... |
