Thanks. Sounds awesome guys.
How hard is it to kill a monster? Because if there are only a few monsters on screen at once it would be great if you really had to 'work' at killing a monster instead of space bar press bang! dead monster. I remember reading about the intial idea of Quake. The way they described it it was almost like Virtual Fighter but first person with bladed weapons. You would see the impact of every hit and strike you made. Can't wait to upgrade the old 'puter and play Doom 3. |
My system can't do the dance either, but I will still find a way to play this.
|
i'll wait for the xbox version
|
I hope the xbox version will allow multiplayer with pc users so I can finally demonstrate once and for all to my very stubborn xbox-loving friends that a mouse and keyboard combo will kick the ass of a thumbpad console controller anyday of the week.
But I may have to do some upgrading first. Running a P4 1.6a OC'd to 2.1 with 512 MB Rambus and an ATI Radeon 8500 with 128 MB RAM. |

Seems stupid when I know I'll be able to get it dirt cheap in a year or two and will have just as much fun playing it then (probably more so not having a $50 whole in wallet). :D |
If any of you have played it, could you tell me how you like it so far?
|
To answer the topic, I think two things are killing the buzz (though there still seems to be a good bit).
1. There's just not a ton of buzz for PC games anymore. They still sell well, and there's still a good bit of buzz, but there's no near the amount of buzz for a big time PC release (like Doom 3) as there is for a big console release (like a GTA game). 2. The high system specs probably keep some non-hardcore PC gamers from bothering right now as they don't want to/can't afford to upgrade or buy/build a new system at the moment. |

4 Player deathmatch, thats it. The Xbox version will have COOP play.
The reason why there is no COOP play in the PC version was supposibly there wouldnt be enough room for more than one player to be running around in the levels, so for the XBOX they had to redesign the levels. |
this game is friggin intense. definetly one thats best played in the dark with headphones on and the volume cranked up. loving it so far.

the problem is that min specs are only to get the game to run without crashing
to get the game to run properly and smoothly as intended takes much high specs i would imagine |

But yeah, obviously the experience will be more intense on the better rigs. |
Great post! Thanks alot Corvin!

anyone's game crashing on them? mine seems to be crashing randomly. happened three times already. :(
|
This is quite possibly the most downloaded at launch game I've ever seen, its insane :(.

While you definitely need some heavy duty hardware to play it in all its glory, Doom 3 still looks incredibly at low detail and low resolutions. I think people are drastically overestimating the need to upgrade to play this game. |

Been playing it the last couple of hours, and it's definitely an amazing looking game. Still, it just doesn't feel like what I remember of Doom/Doom 2. The first part of it plays like Half-Life or Halo. I haven't played Doom 2 since a couple of months after it came out (And that was what, eight or nine years ago?) but I remember it playing more like, in comparison to a more modern game, Painkiller.
This game definitely has me on the edge of my seat, but it just feels more like Silent Hill or Resident Evil. Maybe it's just the graphics make Doom 3 far more immersive, but I remember just plowing through Doom 2 and not worrying about what was behind every corner. I'm definitely not complaining. I'm loving the terror this game's immersive graphics and sound instill. But it simply isn't what I was expecting from my vague memory of the old Doom 2, and even the shareware floppy demo of Doom. As others have said, there was a lot of overestimation on hardware requirements. I recently upgraded everything but my video card, and even with a two year old video card it's running fine on the high setting. Athlon 64 3400+ 1GB 3200 DDR NVidia Geforce4 TI4400 |

It keeps crashing on me :( I'm using a Mobility Radeon 9700 which isn't doing too well.

You guys think the game will run "decently" on my setup?:

Can you save anywhere? Or, will it piss me off like Far Cry did?
|
I got a AMD 1800+, 768 MB ram, and ATI Radeon 9500.
Well, it runs. I have it set to 640x480 with most of the effects on. It's choppy once in awhile, but it's playable. It would look much nicer though if I can get the resolution higher. The game is so dark, and the atmosphere is great. I get a little annoyed switching back and forth between my weapon and the flashlight. It does the trick if you like scary games. |
Updated my video drivers and this game is running sweeeeet! I'm totally lovin' the deal work with the shotgun! BRAINS!
Yes, this is one creepy a ss game! Monsters just jump out of no where. I'm very pleased so far. A DOOM game with a story!?!?! Can't ask for more! |

This game is awesome. I think it's a really good blend of FPS and survival horror. I don't know if it's totally lived up to the hype, but it's pretty damn good. I really like the dark, moody atmosphere. I'm playing it on High detail at 1280x1024 and it plays pretty smooth. I don't know what frames I'm getting, but it looks good. (comp specs below)
I also just upgraded my speakers to 5.1 and the sound is awesome too. Newegg.com had a sale on some Logitech 5.1 speakers and they sound really good. They aren't on sale anymore, but they are still at a pretty good price if anyone is looking for a good, cheap 5.1 setup. http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...121-104&DEPA=0 My specs: P4 3GHz ATI 9800XT 256MB 1GB DDR400 RAM Audigy 2 |
I played it yesterday and it was awesome.
Ran it at 1280x1024 2xAA High quality on an AMD FX51, 1GB DDR3200, 6800GT ran smooth, the lighting is fantastic, and the sound is beautifully done. Best environment in an FPS that I've ever experienced. birrman54 |
