I wonder if that extra 512 really helps? I was running other shit too, and I believe AA and AF were on, I should check it out again. |

Thanks.

Man, this game freaks me out sometimes. Nothing like walking down a hall and hearing someone whisper "Come over here" out of my rear speakers. I'm really glad I bought some 5.1 speakers. Really helps with the immersion.

"THEY STOLE MY BABY" Freaked me out!

anyone else a little disappointed in doom3 yet? I'm about 2 hours into it, and already I'm really tired of listening to all these boring audio logs.
|
Those with lower-end machines, don't worry. According to an article I'd read, it will run even on very old, low hardware. And it will even look good, too.
|
joeblow69, did you ever play System Shock or System Shock 2 for example?
|
Is the atmosphere like System Shock 1 or 2?
If it is more reason to drool over the game. Are the monsters scarier than the monkey things? I forgot what the name of the game was but there was a game for the Playstation(FPS) that had monsters that looked like the spider heads in 'The Thing' and at the time I was playing on a GXTV(small monitor designed for games so you have to sit real close to see everything). You would see these heads sprout spider legs like in the movie and I'm crouching to avoid detection so I move real slow. You have to enter a room with maybe two or three of these creatures to get somewhere. One of them sees me and scurries toward me so far not a big deal but I'm moving slowly as hell. Then it leaps towards me and I literally jump out of my chair. I tried playing 5 more times but I was scared shitless. I couldn't take it cause fast moving bugs always creep me out. Is Doom 3 anything like that? |

Originally posted by Ghym Doom 3 has some bug/spider-like things that creep me out. They start coming out of the floor and from webs on the ceiling. I hate those things. You can hear all their legs clicking along the metal walkways. They like to leap as well. Freaky things. I guess I'll pick up depends. |
Joe: After you click play to listen to an audio log, you can hit tab to close the PDA and keep on playing, and the log will continue to play as well. Makes them much easier to bear.

Originally posted by vhgong Honestly, i hope all games would set standards like that. If Halo 2 can set another gaming standard, i am all for it. I think as gamers, we have everything to gain if makers makes games like these. |

Is it possible to hook up my Onkyo HT to my computer to play Doom 3 in 5.1 audio?
|
Depends on what sound card you have. Do you have an optical out or 5.1 analog outputs?

This may help people with ATI cards for better performance, but try it at your own risk. |

I have a Dell 9100 and the drivers worked for shi t! Now my ATI Moblity 9700 is smokin'! I have it on High settings and it's running fine. |
Hear of anyone running it with only 256MEG RAM? My last desktop was bought when Half-life came out and was trying to wait until HL2 before I buy a new one. I do have a lap top P4 2.0 with GHz 256 RAM and wanted to know if I could get by with this for now. I know, I should just buy a new computer since HL2 is close but I really can't swing the money right now.
|
Now I'm pissed, I finally picked it up today and teh 3rd disc is damaged... Arrrrggggg
|
I was getting a lot of crashing. I upgraded to those beta 4.9 catalyst drivers and my crashes went away. The intelligent scan only gives me Medium quality. I think thats because I only have 512mb of RAM. I can play on the high quality setting ok though, just a little bit of stutter now and then. Its a pretty cool game so far.

I just reached
Spoiler:

I downloaded the latest drivers from Nvidia and it runs pretty good on high quality on my machine. My computer is a Pentium 4 1.5 with 256 megs of RAM. Slows down a little when there is alot going on on the screen.

Turning AA off helped my frame rates quite a bit.

Surprised nobody's complained about the heavy handed scare tactic of not being able to use the flashlight and a weapon at the same time. You'd think marines protecting a poorly lit environment would have some weapons equipped with lights (or at least watched Jack Bauer use a pistol and flashlight in a few episodes of 24).
|
I don't know the story of Doom 3 so maybe this doesn't fit into the story but it would be cool if you could meet a NPC Raver whose still high on Excstasy and she lights the way with glow sticks twirling around as she can't stop dancing. It would be a great demo of a moving glowing light source.

What cards out there have 512MB? Is it referring to using Nvidia's SLI technology or Alienware's dual video card thing?

Are there any homages to the original DOOM? Like, say, old-school DOOM music, or recreations of E1M1?

As I've heard elsewhere - the Doom 3 engine is great; I can't wait for someone to make a game with it. |

Will my setup handle this game well?
Pentium4 2.53 GHz 512 MB RDRAM 64 MB GeForce TI 4200 48x CD ROM I know very little on where my graphics card fits into the hierarchy of good vid cards, etc.. though I imagine the 64 MB is a bit on the low end. |
