I wouldn't suggest a 5200 if you want decent frames in Far Cry, or any DX9 game.

The 5200 is a challenger to the lower end ati 9600 series and although it's not quite as good, it's a decent card. Still, don't expect good framerates on newer games. You can pick up a 5700 Ultra for around 180 bucks - and that's a pretty hot card. For a few bucks less you can pick up a 9600XT which will pretty much keep up with the 5700. Then again - for a few bucks more you can get the 5900XP which is a really solid card.

Geforce 5900XP > Geforce 5700 Ultra > ATI 9600XT - price reflects this and all range from 160-190

ATI 9600 (any) > Geforce 5200 - price also reflects this and range from 60-160 bucks.

60 bucks will keep you in the game for another year maybe, but don't expect to turn on all the effects or have the highest resolutions. If you wanna buy a card that will last you - any of those top 3 will do. If you shop at newegg...

Because NewEgg won't ship to other countries. Even if they did, we'd get hit hard with a fee at the border.

eXcentris, the best site I can find is TigerDirect.ca , they are pretty good, but they're not going to beat NewEgg or something in price, sadly (unless something's on special! then you get lucky!)

I bought my current CPU, all my fans, my case... my mobo... I'm probably going to buy my next video card there too (or get it when I'm in Calgary... no PST then!)

You need to find local stores in Montreal to get the best deal, but the sad thing is, they have to be good local stores. In Calgary, I used Memory Express and in Ottawa, I hear OEM Express is pretty good... but I'm sure that's not much use to you.

I've tried a few sites that'll search various Canadian retailers, but most of said retailers had really sketchy sites... so a local store, or TigerDirect.ca is my answer.

FutureShop and BestBuy and all that are normally total rip offs. They'll sell old cards at really high prices. The newer cards tend to sell for more fair prices, but they really pimp the 2 year old cards and at not fair prices. Sometimes, they'll have a nice sale, and they might be slightly cheaper then somewhere like TigerDirect.ca, but I've only seen that once.

Someone recommended canadacomputers.com I checked them out and they have the best price I could find on a GeForce FX5900XT. $40 cheaper than what I could find locally. Can't order online but they take phone/e-mail orders. TigerDirect was higher priced and only had some funky XFX brand I've never heard of and no 4-5 games software bundle that MSI has.

Oh - I see, you're thinking of getting the actual ATI brand Radeon... it's a bit overpriced. Sapphire, Abit, Asus, Gigabyte and Powercolor are all good too. I would just suggest staying away from the SE version and pick up a PRO in the 130 dollar range or an XT for a little more.

If I had a 50 dollar gift card at BB, I'd pick up a console game or a few PC games on sale since games tend to be the same prices everywhere and electronics at BB are overpriced.

I just found out my computer doesn't have an AGP slot. Does this mean I'm shit-out-of-luck or is there a PCI card that can handle Far Cry?

You can still get GeForce 5200 and Radeon 9200 cards in PCI versions. Prices range from around 70-90 bucks for these and they should give decent performance for Far Cry, but don't expect magic.

I have that PCI card in my old computer, and I was able to run Far Cry with max settings. So it's definitely worth it. I am getting rid of my old PC, but I can pull the card out and sell it to you if you want to save a little money. Let me know. I still have the box and everything.

Is my computer going to be able to run Far Cry? I've been reading good things about the game, but I don't want to buy something that will chug. Max Payne 2 and R6: Raven Shield were probably the last first-person shooters I played, and I had no problems with them. My specs are:

P4 2.4 GHZ
1 Gig of Ram
NVidia GeForce FX 5200 128 MB (AGP)
XP Pro
