what kind of shipping did you opt for? probably not the free shipping option, right?

No, I ordered it when they have Free Overnight shipping on the title.

If you plan accordingly you can get Free Overnight shipping on any title through either Gamestop or EBGames.

Here is my quick two-word review after playing the game for about 30 minutes :

Holy Shit!

I played for little over an hour this morning. Nothing startled me like it did in the demo, but I knew it was coming. It seems to be more action than puzzle solving (I've only encountered one puzzle so far). The back story is unfolding nicely through the items found, the "voices", and the archive material. I'm aiming for the good ending but we'll see.

I Hope it is more action than puzzle. This was one of the item I disliked in RE.

It definitely is so far. I love the controls and the camera, they work great. I am so happy the controls are NOTHING like Resident Evil. That is one of my biggest peeves about that series of games. The first person view is actually pretty cool too, and it seems useful. I also love the fact that you can save any where, any time. I can't wait to go home after work and play this some more.

The documentary, part of the bonus materials, about an old prison is really interesting and got me in the mood to try this game out. I didn't play very long, I got to a part where the main character opened up a bathroom stall and then some hallucination event of sorts happened. It was really creepy and the sound effects added to the fear... it was rather late and I got really sleepy all of a suddent so I turned it off.

That sounds just like Eternal Darkness, if this game is like that one I might have to give it a rent.

I didn't like Eternal Darkness at all, but am loving The Suffering. The controls are very similar, though.

I agree - thought Eternal Darkness was terrible, but Suffering is great.

Great game so far! Definitely geared towards adults. The flashback sequences are cool (read the beginning of the manual so you won't say "WTF was that?"), its more action than puzzle solver (no stupid keys or keycards so far) and the atmosphere is great.

A question for those who have played a bit: Is there a way to save the guy in the gas chamber? I'm trying to finish the game on the "good" side but no matter what I did the guy died.

Considering the lack of horror themed games on X-BOX, I'm having fun so far!

I got a question for someone who has passed the Library area...

Spoiler:
That guy that has been following along with me the whole time, for some reason, he just stopped following me when I got to the library. I kept going a pretty good ways, until I fought the Jailers and all of the cutters. Was this a bug? Should I try to go back and get him to keep following?

Not sure if I can help you flashburn but I'll try

Your talking about the black inmate with a gun right? If so (spoiler ahead)

Spoiler:
he should be following you all the way until you get in a room where the inmate says he'll stay there so you can go upstairs and open the doors for him with a switch. Then he's gone and you hear your dead wife being proud of ya!!

Usually if I stray away the other guy will say something like"Torque, where are ya?" or something.

But I never had a problem with a partner staying behind.

So was he still with you when you went into the library? I don't remember hearing him say anything about a switch.

I remember the guy saying something like"So this is the library? Damn ..." From what I remember the guy stuck with me pretty long until you open the doors for him to go outside later on.

Maybe there's a pathing bug of some sort... Is the guy stuck on a wall or object?

And the switch for the doors is not in the library, it's a bit after.

Nope, he is just standing in the middle of the hall, right before the library. I did try once to run back to get him to follow, and he didn't, I guess I will try to back track some and maybe that will get him to follow. If not I have been keeping save games, so I can go back some.

On another note...what the hell was the deal with the showers?!?
Spoiler:
That place was insane, I went through like 200 rounds on my tommy gun and 212 on my revolvers! I only died once, but still. Half of the time I was running around with just my knife. The guys just kept on coming.

Well, I couldn't get him to keep following me, no matter what I did. So I just reloaded a game that was before he got stuck, then he followed me with no problems.

Good to hear flashburn!! Yeah the shower thing was pretty rough indeed... Transforming into the beast helped a bit though.

Just finished the game tonight playing "good guy". Will try it again as the evil bastid

Ps : always good to keep at least 2 saves going. I had a problem in the later stages of the game where it wouldn't load.

I actually keep forgetting to transform! Oh well, makes things a little more harder, but thats fine.

I have actually been making a new save every time I save. I save like every 4-5 minutes usually too. I figure I will have a ton of save games at the end, but I can just delete them all once I beat it.

I usually transform for 10 or 15 seconds because if your "beast" meter goes down to the bottom you health goes down. And try the "jump attack" (A+ right trigger) you will Clear the whole room (but don't do it if you have an "ally" with you, you will harm him also).

Cheers!
