thanks Young!

im looking at getting that Bundle from Wallyworld,

Comes with Mech and Splintercell-

Just not sure if Microsoft has something up there sleve like a New And Improved XBL3....

if it`s the same stuff just re-bundled it looks like Walmarts Bundle+Live 2.0(34.00)might be the ticket!

anyone disagree

Not at all. But that Wallyworld bundle is apparently hard to find, so snap it and the Target Live Starter kit now while you can.
(edit : The bundle is available online at walmart.com)

Even if you can't find the WalMart bundle, I'd still say that starter kit deal is the way to go, because you get the kit and service and Tetris World for $34.98. You can easily find MechAssault for $20 or less. Starter kit 3.0 includes MechAssault, but not Tetris and will be $69.99. So really there's absolutely no advantage to it if you can pick up the Target starter kit (or get BB to somehow match the deal by calling target and confirmint the price).

Hey, I've got a Live-related question:
If they require a credit card to sign up(as they do) and say that they will automatically charge you for a new subsciption when yours runs out (as they do), why is EB Games selling a $50 Live Renewal Card? What purpose could that serve unless the automatic resubscriptions were at a higher rate?

I just picked up the XBox Live Kit from Target. At $25 it seemed like a good deal even though I'm not ready to jump on Live yet. Just to clarify, the kit includes one year of Live right, i.e. I won't have to pay for anything else related to Live for one year (well, except games of course)?

Correct, for the most part. Phantasy Star Online has a monthly charge (which is pretty par-for-the-course for MMORPG's). I'd imagine any other MMORPG's would also have a charge; that's why they want your CC number. As far as I know, there isn't a charge for other games.

I'm signing up today; I just need to pick a gametag that won't totally annoy me or sound too stupid...

Taken fron jblackland thread from dvd bargains:

AD starts 9/14

BB Xbox listings
Xbox system (free CD boombox instantly): 179.99
Save $15 instantly with purchase of Xbox Live Starter Kit and any advertised Xbox game
Soldier of Fortune II: 36.99
Return to Castle Wolfenstein: 36.99
NFL Fever: 49.99
ESPN NHL Hockey: 49.99

So, would BB pricematch Targets Live price of 34.98? I would figure that both sets are version 2.0. Then at the same time save $15 dollars on one of the games.

I still have not opened my starter kit. If I can get BB to pricematch back the starter kit goes to Target.

Also, I tried to pricematch one Target with another on the 24.98 vs 34.98. It was a no go. I was told Target will not pricematch with another Target. Oh well....

I Heard Target has 1.0 Live kits for $24, and 2.0 kits for $34. I checked 3 local Targets, and each one had 2.0 (the one with the full version of Tetris) for $34. I didn't scan it, though, so it may be cheaper.

The Wal-Mart Splinter Cell/Mech Assault bundle is available online now for those who can't find it at their local stores. I saw one in my local store, but it's probably gone by now.

So according to that ad, Wal-Mart is giving away a free boombox with an Xbox purchase? I could give that to the gf, and convince her that buying an Xbox was a good deal after all (she hates games, lol). Is the 2.0 Live kit $34 at Wal-Mart also? Or is that after the $15 savings? I planned on buying a kit, and ESPN hockey, so it'd be nice to save even more.

In my area it was the other way around. Strangely, the 1.0's were $35 and the 2.0 was $25. Picked up a 2.0 and will not sign up until something I want to play comes along. Probably Crimson Skies.

Most likely, if BB matches they will not give you the $15 off unless it is generated by the computer when it see a kit and qualifying game in the transaction.

I'll answer my own question here. The new Xbox magazine has an ad for the new Live plans. Apparently the Subscription Card comes with a "Xbox Live Carrying Bag" whatever that is and is $50. So all things being equal, it's probably better to pick up the card and bag at BB for $45 + tax (using a coup) than to re-up at home online for $50. I'd love to know what that bag is, though (a small one for your headset? a gym bag?). If you can really re-up with the Starter kit 2.0 though, that's probably the way to go, esp if you can find one at Target on sale.

I would assume it's probably like the one beta testers got with the kit. Big enough to hold the communicator, and some memory cards.

To be honest, my guess is that this is MS's/ebgames answer to those folks who complain about wanting LIVE but not being able to pay for it because they don't have a credit card (for whatever reason). This way, a younger person could get access or someone who doesn't want CCs (or even debit cards?). I've always heard a lot about this sort of thing for MMORPGs too, but I've never actually seen a solution -- though I think some may take paypal or other similar things now.

Yeah that sounds right. After I posted before, it ocurred to me how stupid it would be to try and sell a giftcard with a gym bag. You couldn't fit many on the shelves that way

And Jim, I think you're right about the card. There are actually a lot of reasons why you might want to buy it seperately. Still, I was expecting some sort of a deal, since people originally got the headset, a game and 12 months for $50, I thought you'd get some sort of a deal when you re-up for the same price. A little bag isn't what most might be expecting, but it's better than nothing. I wonder how many people will just buy Starter 3.0 for the game and second headset instead (if we know for sure that you can apply it to an existing account).

I'll be picking up a Starter Kit 2.0 today (24.99@Target) with 12month subscription and a headset. So I'll let you know for sure tomorrow if you can use it to extend an existing account. I've read about several people doing this already so I'll doubt it'll be a problem.

Ok here it is! I picked up the new kit yesterday, and scratched the subscription code. Then I added the subscription code to extend my existing golucky account, and It worked fine. Yeah!
Here's two pics that I took to document the update.

Originally stated,"Current Subscription: Started 9/11/2002; Ends 11/11/2003. Your next subscription will be: Annually $49.99 Annually (or then current price) Tax not included"

After entering the new subscription code it list renewal cost $0.00! sweet
I went back into the subscription screen to see if I could enter an additional code (thinking two years for the price of one), but you can only enter one subscription at a time. This is the screen that I got:

Well, I thought that this post this to show that it did work.

Thanks GoLucky.
While I still have like 11 mo on my current subscription, I picked up a second 2.0 kit so that I'm set til late '05. In retrospect, I'm still not sure it was worth spending $35 now to avoid spending $45 in a year, but maybe it is. Especially if I ever break my headset or something...

Version 2 expires in March. You might have to enter it in before then.
