So it looks like maybe it was a temporary clearance?

I wonder, if we are able to find more of these kits actually on clearance, could we buy them and use the subscription codes to renew for multiple years in advance?

No, as goLucky orignally posted, you can only extend your subscription once (it will show a renewal price of $0.00, so it's only good once).

Anybody know if the MadCatz headsets are any good? They are only $4.99 at my local Best Buy (however, they do not seem to come with the adapter that plugs into the controller). So I assume they would only be good for replacement purposes?

that's correct, no plug adaptor. They say they're replacement headsets. They look cheap and flimsey, but if you need one and can't get a starter kit, I guess they're better than nothing. Especially considering MS is charging $29.99 for theirs.

Okay, sorry I mixed up the poster earlier, I was looking at two threads at the same time. goLucky extended his with a 2.0 right? I didn't know if a 1.0 would work since it has to be activated by 10/31 my current sub doesn't expire until Nov. (Beta tester) I guess I will pick up a 1.0 at Target and try it, anyone want to buy it if it doesn't work as an extension?

Yep, it was a ver. 2.0 I read on xbox.com forums that people people are updating their subs via Ver. 1 and 2.

I've heard bad things about them (i.e. sound quality). Basically it's just a 2.5mm headset/earbud, so if you find a motorola headset that is 2.5mm it should work the same. As for me, I'm still waiting a bluetooth headset for my xbox. Someday it'll be mine! muwhahaha<--evil laughter

Just a note to say I picked up a 1.0 kit at Target on the way home and entered the code. Got the exact same results as goLUCKY got the message "Subscription renewal successfully updated" and back on the Subscription screen showed my next renewal cost as $0.00. My second year for $24.98 + tax, not bad.

On a side note I had to get a LIVE update when I first went into XBOX LIVE (I already had LIVE 2.0 from a couple weeks ago), and got a policy screen that said something to the effect "with the Xbox connected to the internet you may receive updates at any time"

Just checked right now. No update. I did get one after the 2.0 update about a week ago, but you'll only get that update if you go into the dashboard.

Got a 2.0 Kit with full version of Tetris Worlds for $36.XX tax included at BBuy. I plan to sell my copy of Tetris Worlds (which I bought for $15) at eBay for $10, which will bring it to $26.XX after tax

What does the 1.0 version come with? I would have paid pretty much $26 for the headset, 12 months, and MechAssault and MotoGP demos.

So is Best Buy running a clearance special or is this a fluke?

I haven't been able to find any on sale at the Targets near me. Everything is $49.99 mostly for Version 1.0.

I'm guessing a price-match of Target.

Nope, $49.99 online - $5 online instant discount - $10 coupon I printed somewhere on this forum + tax

1. Go online to http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....5&type=product ($44.95 after $5 instant discount)
2. Get it for in-store pickup then drive to the store
3. Once there return it and re-buy it, showing the coupon (retail stores only coupon)

YES they can do it. Get a manager if need be. Get them to ring you up at $49.99 - $10 and then do a pricematch for the remainder $5.
