I just don't see how you guys can justify spendint 1000-2500 on a mame cab! i think his whole setup was like:

Cabinet $75
Controllers $20
Computer $100
Are you talking about me?

Go to www.ultimarc.com to see how I interfaced the buttons I got from Happ Controls.

I probably spent closer to $100 on the cabinet. The computer was made from spare parts, but would be about $200-300 to piece together again. The controller interface was about $40, and the buttons/joystick were another $40. I had the TV already.

So I spent about $500 on this, which is at least what I would have spent getting a machine that ONLY played MKII on Ebay. So I figure I came out ahead.

I've seen that Xarcade cab, no way it's worth $895 could build that for around $200 probably maybe less.

So to build a 4 player controller, how much would that cost to do yourself?

Unless you're trying to play some of the more recent games, I don't see why one wouldn't just mod an Xbox and use MAME there.

No you don't. The cabinet gives it that arcade feel, plus it would look nicer in your gameroom

no, in fact this thread inspired me to look into, with a little internet ingenuity and kazaa you can find what you need to start right up.

I saw one of the pictures had "Primal Rage" playing... what emulator does that game play on?

Besides MAME games, do you guys use other emulators with success? I saw NeoRage has a ton of ROM support but I don't think the emulator works too well with XP. What emulators are you guys using - or do you just use MAME for your cabinets?

MAME handles primal rage... but the version I have (.61) does not have any sound. Higher versions might; I haven't updated in months, and now that tombstones is DOA I don't know when I'll be able to again.

I wouldn't even bother with NeoRage - if you have the BIOS for NeoGeo you can play all the NeoGeo games on MAME. The Metal Slug games are one of the most played series on my arcade, only behind Street Fighter.

Next question: Does anyone who has a version higher than .61 know if Raiden II is available yet?

I don't think anyone's mentioned www.arcadecontrols.com yet either. That site really helped me get going with my arcade after being inspired by Goblincat's arcade last year.

Can you hook up two X-Arcade joysticks to play a 4-player game?

From the www.x-arcade.com website

Can I use more than one X-ARCADE™ at a time?

Yes. You can plug in up to 4 X-Arcade™ Two Player or 8 X-Arcade™ One Player on your PC. You simply need to purchase a SERIAL SPLITTER. If you want to use two X-Arcade™ Solo together on your console, you only need two game console adapter, two Solo.

We are currently manufacturing a hardware splitter that will let you use two solo with one adapter. To get on the list to be notifed of this product, Email XGAMING.

Any ideas on how I could do this?

Yeah, paid off a bunch of bills first

-edit- plus doing it with the xbox knocked 4 or 5 hundred off the price

Instead of buying 2 x-arcade joysticks, how much would it cost to make a 4 player joystick/board?

Raiden II is not available yet, sucks doesn't it.

Don't run neogeo games in MAME, it is horrible at them

WinKawaks or Nebula- CPS2/Neogeo

these are the masters, lots more options than MAME.
There is also a NeoRage XP edition, works really well but I just end up using kawaks.

Much cheaper than $300, I can tell you that... plus the layout of 2 of them would be rather akward since they're trapezoidal(?) in shape....

Let's see now....

From ultimarc.com:
i-Pac 4 player (56 inputs): $39
Wiring kit: $17

From happcontrols.com
4 comeptition joysticks: $13x4 = $52
at least 24 competition buttons: $1.70x22 = $40.80

Particle board: $few bucks

So it would be about $150. Plus you can do cool stuff like add a spinner or a trackball.
