hmm we haven't recieved any DMC 2 shirts yet, which sucks. It would be a great incentive for people to reserve the game. Plus I want one myself

Anybody know if they do these kind of deals every month but with different games? Thanks.
We did it a couple of weeks ago with Super Mario Sunshine, Mario Party 4, Starfox Adventures, Splinter Cell, Mortal Kombat (Xbox), MGS: Substance, Tekken 4, Tony Hawk 4 (PS2), and some other PS2 game i forget. That deal was crazy enough, but this is even crazier since its for brand new games that should be costing corporate even more then the slightly older games offered in the last promotion. I don't know how they expect to keep these kind of deals going on and still make money when most people are trading in things like State of Emergency and Oni.

Not a n00b-

I noticed in your sig, it says the Getaway comes out on the 21st. Is this true? The guy at my Gamestop said the 22nd, so did the guy at EB. Best Buy says it comes out on the 24th.

Most new games (like new video/DVD releases) come out on Tuesdays, which the 21st falls on, so I was just curious.

well technically its shipped on the 21st and should be arriving the morning of the 22nd. I was hoping we would get it the night of the 21st though since for some big releases the district manager goes down to the airport so we can have the games that night (did it for Vice City, Metroid Prime and Splinter Cell). It doesn't look like we will be getting it until the morning of the 22nd though

We do have a full version of the game that the sony rep dropped off though, and its running in the store PS2 right now. Only problem is we had to turn the sound way down because of all the swearing, lol.

Well i took part in the deal today. I took a quick trip to the Gamestop in Manhattan (here in NY), and traded Oni, Summoner, State of Emergency and Batman:Vengeance for:
DOAXVB and The Getaway. Wow, its a good thing this deal came up cuz it was a load off for me.

Because you CAN'T. As I said in one of my previous posts - I got Ghost Recon in the deal, didn't like it(and I'll avoid Tom Clancy games in the future), went to exchange it for the 10000x better SOCOM, but they said I couldn't exchange it for a $50 credit(and I pay the $10 difference), only for the credit amount of my trade-in games, which was $17. His explanation(which makes sense) is that someone could walk in there, trade two crappy games, get something crappy like Ghost Recon, then exchange Ghost Recon for another $50 game they want, and keep doing that. [/QUOTE

you opened yours , I know it worked when eb had that mario sunshine deal and the ea games. I didnt know the msrp was $40 for Res 2 and 3

Well, I became evil today(though some may say I've always been evil) - I went to GameStop and picked up State of Emergency, Onimusha, and Twisted Metal Black for $28, then went to Babbage's with those and my THPS 3 to trade for RE 2 and 3. Babbage's said "we're not running that deal", I tell him GameStop is, he says "we don't do the same deals they do". So, I head back to GameStop(20 minutes later), and with an evil grin, slap the games I just bought back onto the counter and tell the guys I want to trade for RE 2 and 3. They know me as a frequent customer, so I guess they didn't even glance at the stack. Guy says "ooh, we're not running that deal anymore" and looks over at the display rack, where the RE deal sign is still up. He says "Crap, someone forgot to take it down", and he says he'll go ahead and do the deal for me. He gets the games for me, then picks up my trade-in stack, and I see the instant look of "WTF, you just bought these!", followed by the "You slick bastard" look. He hands me RE 2 and 3, and says sarcastically "Appreciate it man", then as I leave I hear him say to the other guy "don't sell him any more games".
Sure, what I did was pretty bad - then again, I don't really feel bad, because I'm not willing to pay $40 each for ports that were initially supposed to be $20 each..

I'd like to see them try and stop you from buying games there.

what's up with all these different places claiming they aren't doing the deal? Didn't tenaciousdave say that all Gamestop's and it's affiliates are supposed to be participating?

As far as I know ALL stores should be participating in this deal. Our company does do some weird stuff sometimes, and it would not surprise me if some test stores weren't doing this deal. It doesn't make sense though. The reason we are doing it is to boost our fourth quarter sales, and to get more used games after Chrismas, I would assume that they would want all stores to participate in this.

As far as buying games and trading them in right away... I don't agree with it. Gamestop is already giving such a great deal, at least buy the games at a non Gamestop, Blockbuster, EB, whatever. While we wouldn't stop you from buying the games, I would not let you trade them in.

As far as I'm concerned Nascar 2002 wouldn't count due to the '02. Same concept as Madden, no one wants '02 when '03 is out.

I went to Gamestop this morning with the intention of unloading some games to pre-order DMC2 and get the Sims. The manager didn't really know anything about the promotion. He said he could only do the deal for DMC2 when the game is actually released, but I could get the Sims since they had it in stock. So, I handed him two games, filled out a form, and pulled out my credit card to pay $9.99 for the sims. Buuuut, after I handed the form back to him, he told me my receipt was in the bag.

I didn't question it and walked out...I looked at the receipt and he bumped up the trade in value of each game to equal $52.49.

Hey tenaciousdave, you guys should get your website to post these deals.. I would imagine alot of people don't know about them because they don't frequent forums and such. I wouldn't have had a clue because I'm not really shopping in the mall to see the copied 1-sheet paper they had on the window at the store to even know about this. The guys that worked at the store weren't even sure how it worked, but they did let me do it for The Sims. However neither Babbages or Funcoland would let me do the deal for DOAVB, they said I have to wait for it to come out. So I had to put down $5 to reserve it and go back with the games I had.

It was pretty sad though, it took the guys about 20 minutes and 3 calls to other stores to figure out how to ring it up!

Just wanted to say thanks for posting this deal. I was able to get DOA-Volleyball for $9.99 for 2 games that I have been trying to trade for awhile. My local Babbages is doing the deal.

The only thing is that they had no signs, no promotional posters, nothing that would tell you this deal is being done. The guy there said that he even forgot they were doing the deal.

So thanks again for the post! I would not have know about this deal without it!!!

I am so happy this was posted.
I traded in 4 games today and reserved DOA and Ghost Recon. My store said that the deal for the GC version only but I'll either trade it for the XBOX later on or I'll just deal with it.

My wife took in 3 games and got The Sims on an even trade.

I rarely trade in games but I unloaded Hot Shots Gold 3, Cookies & Cream, Treasuer Planet, AirBlade, Frequency, Medal Of Honor:Frontline and Jax & Daxter. This deal was just too good to miss out on.

Heck....I might go back tomorrow and get The Getaway or DMC2.

Well, they wouldn't give me the refund (about $6 total for the two games). He called two different stores and they both charged their customers $14.11.

Any ideas? Are Los Angeles customers just outta luck?

I went to my local gamestop today, and the manager said that they'd just changed the deal so that the games must have a $10 minimum trade-in value. Not sure if it's just that location or all of them.

They wouldn't take my Tony Hawk 3 or TimeSplitters 1 towards DMC2. I'm going to try a couple other locations tomorrow, but the rules may have changed on this deal.

I went in my local store today just in passing instead of going for more games and I noticed the "ads" for the deal seemed to have some stuff added in pen at the bottom.

Seems like a crock to change the promo while it's going on. I mean they had to of guessed it was gonna be a huge deal. Did they not think word was gonna spread like it did? I'm glad I got in on it and i really feel bad for those of you who have to deal with stores backing out on the deal or messing with it to save their butts from having crap games forever.

My store ended the deal today, I'm not sure if this is just our store, the district or the entire company or what. It was supposed to run through Feb 4th, but was ended due to people taking advantage of the policy, such as Jtnguyen12 and others in this thread If you got in on this, then congrats, not sure if we are gonna be running something this good after the all the awful trade-ins we got while running this one.

So when you guys had this deal before but for different games, the trade in weren't too bad? I took advantage of this deal because they give you crappy trade in values...well I just took advantage of it cus it was a great deal...hehehe. No excuses. I noticed that they also raised the used price of Oni from 9.99 to 12.99 and some of the 7.99 games I saw a week before were all gone, all of them. Maybe they were onto us. Thanks for the update noob.

Hmmm. I got in on this deal yesterday at my local Babbage's. Traded in SSX and SW Starfighter for DMC. Also got "free gift" (I passed on the DMC shirt and picked up a sweet Midnight Club II cap instead). The sign mentioned $10 min value games, but the guy working said anything but old sports/ wrestling games. He said I couldn't do it for the getaway since it was supposed to be released that day (even though they didn't have it in). He said there will probably be another promotion like it next month.

Thanks to the original poster.

last time we ran it, the deal wasn't as popular becuase we were seling games that had been out for a bit, not brand new releases that people were looking forward too. The point of this promotion was to restock our used game section after it got depleted over christmas. Mostly though we got the most godawful group of trade ins I have ever seen, tons of State of Emergency and crap like that. So it wasn't doing its intended purpose at all, just giving games to people for 10 after they did trade ins that would be normally worth $10 total, maybe.

I am going to pick up my copy of the Getaway today, I will see if the promotion is still going on. Chances are it isn't, because as I said before, the guy that usually works in the one by my house is a jerk. They're all jerks, when it was Funcoland it was worse, if you can believe that. How about coming down here and taking their jobs, N00b?

Anyhow, I don't blame your store for ending it early, N00b, I mean as you said, some people were clearly taking advantage of it. Buying a game for $8, and then 2 seconds later trading it back in for $20 is begging for trouble

The people that did that should have at least gone to a different Gamestop when they bought the cheap games.

Hopefully this promotion will happen again in the future, although I trust with steeper guidelines, and a more strict exclusion list :/
