I'm tempted, but I would rather just wait. So anyway do you think it's time I upgrade my card? I'm running a Voodoo5 lol.

Well - I played through every inch of it and it's really raw, but it's going to be hella scary - there will be no 'use' button, but when you walk up to a control panel - your gun will drop and you'll have a cursor to perform actions. The enemies are really tough - even I had to go through it with godmode on. The zombies will get back up after you kill them sometimes - that can be a heart-attack situation. The end of the third map has a huge creature that looks like he was ripped straight off of Aliens. Nevertheless, it's way cool and the shadow, texture, bumpmapping, lighting effects are better than we've ever seen in any game period. Plus - even at low resolutions, this game looks better than most FPS games at high resolution.

Serious Sam has been described as "Doom-style" gameplay. I don't see this - the original Doom scared the bejesus out of me (looking back of course, it doesn't have quite the same effect) and Serious Sam is just run and go blasto on crazy enemies with no plot. Doom was very atmospheric which is the main hook that makes it so different. This new Doom will easily have you crapping your pants more than all the Resident Evils, Eternal Darkness, Undying and Aliens vs. Predators combined. Once again it will haunt you in your sleep.

My impressions from E3 - seeing this very same demo - were a little negative, but after playing it myself I can see just how intense it will be. I was turned off by the cutscenes they put in the game, but they don't bother me now... what I'm talking about is that you're walking along and are about to turn a corner and they swoop from your POV to a catwalk above you and show some scary creatures that you're going to have to face saying they can smell your blood and then they give the controls back to you - even though you know what's around that corner now, it doesn't settle your nerves any. I can see the effect of this in terms of telling the scary story and getting you even more involved. Sure, it makes things a bit more linear and stuff, but it also makes this more of an interactive movie adventure game which sole purpose it is to give you night terrors for the rest of your life.

AXP 1900+
512 MB DDR ram
GeForce 1, 32 MB SDR (yeah yeah, laugh it up fuzz ball )

A blood curdling 6 fps MAX (avg. maybe 3-4 fps). I coulda sworn i heard my system whimper when I quit the test.

So, use this info more as a reference to see if you should give the alpha a go rather than a judgement on the game.

Well, that pretty much tells me that dling this game would be a massive waste of my time.

With my Athlon 750, 256megs ram, and 32mb Geforce 2... i'd probably be getting about 2fps.

Ah well, I'm not buying a whole new computer just for one game.
(And yes, I'm sure it'll be running better when it comes out, but I'm almost positive it still won't work worth a crap on my set up)

Zodo: That's almost exactly like what I have... I'm still trying to locate the demo. I know it'll run like crap but I'd like to see it anyway.

I have a 1 Ghz PIII, 768 megs of SDRAM and GF3Ti500 - and I topped out at about 6 fps (on average, from what I could guage).

Keep in mind this isn't even a demo, but a truly raw representation of the game. Once the demo comes out, I'm sure the video settings will be tweakable (as well as all those other wonderful bells & whistles). Also, isn't this game supossed to have the ability to run on an X-Box? As far as computing power goes, the X-Box is hardly a "power" machine.

While barely playable, I must say it looked incredible - this is gonna be one hell of a scary game. Can you imagine playing this in the dark with a nice set of 5.1 surround speakers??

This game is a monster

Specs : Athlon 1.33 Oc'd to 1.5
1.0 Gb RAM
GF 4 Ti4400

This thing is a killer. I ran the game at 1024 x 768, High Quality and got maybe 15fps...avg'd around 8 to 10. I can run the game at 800x600 Medium quality to where its playable, and decently quick.

I have been wanting to upgrade my CPU, but will wait for Doom III to be released and get the fastest out at that time...Same go's for the video card as well

Looks like this one is gonna be pretty good

WOW this is crazy. My computer runs the demo at 30-50 fps, so it gets smooth animation. THe sound is incredibel!

how did you get resolution to 1024x768? I tried r_mode 4 and mode 5 but can't get 1023x768....

You guys are right, it does look very amazing. Love those natural-looking shadows and the way the little objects move when you shoot them (especially the boxes)! Also, the zombie creatures move just right - id has obviously studied their George Romero films.

I also have a 800Mhz Pentium with 256kb RAM and a Geforce 2 GTS graphics card, so there's no hope for me. Though it's obvious that this demo is completely unoptimized and that the full version will run A LOT smoother... perhaps with a new graphics card... ?
