Ahhhh... yep, that's the one. It's having a little trouble connecting but I'll keep trying.

Thanks.

Okay - well I changed the name back to doom_iii, so if you can't find it, then kazaa doesn't support .rar files or something.

I pulled it down off mIRC earlier at 150Kbps... thanks for the suggestion of giving this a go Trigger. Pretty sweet, though short

I'm really surprised this thread hasn't been closed and/or deleted.

Anyway, I just want to mention that I'm happy ATI is being blamed for the leak.

Why would it be closed? Its not a boot. Its a leak of an alpha. Sort of a pre-demo.

This game is great. I played it on my friends computer (he's a hardcore gamer so his computer can handle about anything at full rez). The framerate isn't too bad, but the load times are like 2 min per each level. Just simply amazing. The game is gorgeous. I don't know what else to same except that you need to download this and play the hell out if it.

What is the scheduled release date for the full version? Hopefully we will see a polished demo in the next few months. I am tempted to download the alpha but, I have a pretty week system (1.2 G TBird, 256 mb, 64 mb GF2 GTS). Anyone else run this version on a weak system yet?

I may be asking for punsihment, but I'm going to try this (once I get it downloaded) on my p3 733, 256 meg ram, GeForce 2 GTS 32 meg card. If I never post here again, it's because my computer melted

It's as bad as warez as far as I'm concerned. You may not be costing anybody any money, but you are taking something that wasn't intended to be released, and the developers don't want anyone to have.

Yeah, cause no one likes free publicity

Doom 3 gets plenty of free publicity as it is. A leaked alpha is more of a risk that you'll get bad publicity, people complaining that the game sucks because of all the problems associated with such an early version of a game. Not to mention id makes a lot of money off of licensing their game engines, and this is basically just letting the competition get a nice up-close-and-personal view of the engine months before it's due out. It's just a bad situation for id software, and I'm not so desperate to play some clunky beta of the game that I'll do something that I believe is wrong.

Actually its an alpha not a "beta"

I see what you are saying though. I didn't think of it in terms of other developers seeing the engine. Of course, ATI is to blame, so ID could always sue for damages.

But its not so it falls within the forum guidelines.

A leaked alpha version of something thats LESS than what we will all be playing for free as soon as the demo hits is nowhere near warez. And as far as bad publicity goes gamers are so rabid for this it could be stick figure theater and it wouldnt stop any of us from DLing the demo.

It's hardly even a demo as some of the levels aren't even finished. It's just a "show off the technology" sort of thing. It's not gonna hurt anybody if I download it and it's not gonna hurt anybody if zig doesn't download it. No biggie. I've already seen this in action at E3, so this is just a more up-close and personal look at it. Since I'm not going to be decompiling the code and trying to use it for my own game, I don't see the harm. I still want to buy it when it comes out. This is good publicity as far as I can tell - the worst publicity came from their own mouths in the interview with PCGamer.

Also - it basically looks like the Quake 3 engine with tons of tweaks to me...

Try it LITE.. but I didn't tell you that. Well folks, atleast support this game when it is released. I haven't touched the alpha, and as tempting as it may sound, I don't plan to anytime soon. Many will base there opinions on the game by an early alpha version which is weak. let the developers finish it off.

I tried the alpha...it looks nice, but I only loaded it once to see the graphics. They look good and I can't wait for the game...away it went off my HD (as I hate alpha's, especially leaked stuff as it's always buggy and slow).
