so I traded the GC for an Xbox...

How does this translate into record profits? And what meaningful records has it broke - it seems to be selling poorly.

I loved NiGHTS...Into Dreams, and consider it to be just about the best game ever made. But I can understand if someone else would prefer a different game!
I found Mario fun when I was younger on the NES, but I played about 30minutes of Mario 64 and while I didn't hate it, I didn't like it or want to play it any further.
You guys gotta think of games as movies. Some people like different movies, or hate movies that got "good reviews." Its all personal taste. I like the movie Cannibal! The Musical, would you guys... probably not. Does that mean someone similar to Scandal should step in and rant about what he thinks of my movies and then tell me I am dumb for liking them. No.
Oh yah. and I think console bashing is really stupid. And against forum rules. Hahahahaha. Deleted. - Static

Agreed.Go Xbox!

Why do these threads always turn into GCN vs PS2 vs Xbox debates?
I also think Mario used to be fun. Not anymore though.

So Dek, do you just not like Platformers? That's the only explanation I can see for not liking Mario games. They are always the best platformer games out there, so if you don't like them you much hate Sonic, Rayman, Conker, Banjo-Kazoo, Spyro the Dragon, Crash Bandicoot, etc.
Either that or you just hate Nintendo and hate Mario because it is it's flagship title.
People give all kinds of reasons for hating Mario. The main ones are "it's too kiddie" and "it's the same old thing." Those apply to all platformers. Sonic, Banjo, Rayman, etc. are all kiddie, and the all offer the same type of gameplay. The Mario games are usually the most innovative platformers out their and usually offer more new gameplay features than the others.
Therefore there isn't a good logical reason for someone to hate Mario games, but like other companies platformers like Crash, Sonic, Spyro etc.

Well... I'm not a huge fan of platformers, but I do like Sonic. I hate Mario games though. I thought the original Sonic was way more innovative than any Mario game had been and this remained that way until Mario 64 came out and by then I didn't have much interest at all in platformers. The Dreamacst Sonic Adventure game seemed to bring me back into platformer games. Outside of that, I'm not a big fan of the rest of them either... none of the ones you mentioned or that Maximo game... Jak and Daxter was okay.
It has nothing to do with me hating Nintendo or plumbers.

I thought Sonic Adventure was terrible. It didn't have the feel of the old games at all IMO. Too much exploration, not enough speed and clever stages -- which was what made the original Sonic games great.

That being said, I think Mario hit his peak with Super Mario Bros. Personally, I liked platformers better in the "old days" of the side-scroller. Sonic and the Mickey Mouse Adventure were great platformers for their time and I rank them highly.
Now though, I'd much rather play something like HALO or Grand Theft Auto 3 which, (now here's the tricky part) in my opinion are great games with lots of exploration, replayability and room to fool around.

A little reminder of the rules of the road.
1. You are not the arbiter of good and bad taste. Everyone else is completely entitled to have gaming tastes different than you, just as you are entitled to have gaming tastes different from them. Someone having a different opinion than you in this matter does not make them wrong, stupid, or misinformed.
2. No console bashing allowed. This include stuff like "_________ system was made for kids," "_________ is the Joe Six-Pack system," etc. Each system appeals to different people's tastes differently, and that's okay. Everyone is entitled to like or dislike systems, and someone liking/disliking different systems than you does not make them wrong, stupid, or misinformed.
In a related note, someone else liking a system does not make them a "fanboy," nor does it render their opinion on the system invalid. Different strokes for different folks.
Let's lay off the console bashing and have some respect for differences of gaming tastes.
I have no idea. Sadly, I think some people feel that their opinions/tastes are only valid when everyone else's opinions/tastes are put down.
Since this thread has run way off course into familiar unfriendly territory, I'm shutting it down.

Seriously though, the two mediums don't have that much in common IMO.
