Re: Let's Talk about Metroid Prime
Picked up the physical version the other day and am just in awe at how incredibly well this game holds up. I bought it when it originally came out for the Gamecube and remember liking it quite a bit but I think I only played it through the one time, so I can barely remember it. For those who are on the fence about this release? Man, I'd say pick it up. It's amazing how well it holds up. The story is compelling. The controls are intuitive and amazing. I'm only at the point where I reached the first save spot but I'm having a blast. The graphics are so amazing that I find myself just exploring the incredible world. I'm pretty nit-picky when it comes to games (I know I'm in the minority but I hated Zelda: Breath of the Wild and sold it probably a month after buying it; the constant breaking weapons and pretty barren overworked drove me crazy) but this one is just a flat-out masterpiece. The way the graphics are with Samus's visor are stunning. The condensation. The rain/water effects. Just a great game, and I'm glad I bought it. For $50 CA, I consider it a pretty good deal. And I'm not a die-hard Metroid person...I actually didn't like Metroid: Dread...maybe cause I generally suck at videogames but that game drove me crazy with its difficulty level...

Re: Let's Talk about Metroid Prime
I will say that the Remastered version on Switch is infuckingcredible. I tried playing on my GameCube not too long ago and the controls just sucked. Up was down, down was up, I was so not used to it like when I actually used to play GC whenever it came out. So I gave up. It was not the same experience or I was just not used to the controls bc of Xbox and PS. I put this in Switch and was so hesitant that I would relive that 2nd GC try. But, it was the controls I knew, the controls I love in games today. I was so relieved. It’s been a pleasure not remembering too much about the game and then replaying it and having that same joyous feeling I had way back when. Looks incredible too. The music is iconic and I couldn’t wait to hear it again. It was magic all over again. I can’t wait to dive deeper and would love to play Echoes again. Never finished that one, but do still have it on GC. Still, a Switch version would be tremendous. Beyond can’t come soon enough, but I plan on playing the shit out of the old Metroid’s I missed out on. Like, Dread and even the Super Nintendo version, I never got to play bc I never got the system. At least I don’t think so. Bottom line, this Metroid Prime is a perfect example of how a remaster should be done. Love the shit out of it. And playing fresh is such a treat.

The rumor is that MP 2 and 3 remastered are in the can and just waiting on Nintendo to release. But who really knows.

would love for this to be true. I never played those others. Frankly, didn’t even know there was a third, let alone 4th coming. Played some more today. Finally got my missiles and morph ball. So much I didn’t remember and I’m so thankful for that.

I know I’ve been a pain in the ass lately. And, for that, I’m sorry, but if someone wouldn’t mind helping me out…
I can’t ever seem to see the objective marker on the map, it’s supposed to be a ? correct? I have hints turned on so I’m not sure why I’m not seeing my objective. I don’t even see it in my hud. Thanks in advance.

Re: Let's Talk about Metroid Prime
I haven't played the remastered edition yet. So going off of my play through 20 years ago. Yeah I think it's a ? mark on the map and the room is highlighted a different color.
But googling the new hint system found this.
"First, I want to clarify that Prime's "in-game hints" are triggered by wandering for a period of time or by taking a certain amount of steps, both of these being synonymous in my eyes, as I don't know exactly what triggers it as this is my first playthrough. "
So maybe you're not wandering enough? If not explore the map some more. It should show you where your next objective is.

Re: Let's Talk about Metroid Prime
Finally got around to starting playing MP remaster. Playing on the Switch 2 with the new Switch 2 Pro controller 2. I forgot a lot about this game from the last time I played it over 20 years ago. I think I intentionally forgot the OG control scheme or maybe we weren't that used to FPS and twin stick controls? But then again Halo had been out for a year already. I'm glad they included so many different options because dialing in the control scheme was a lot more difficult than I thought it would have been. I was originally going to use hybrid controls like I do with Splatoon 3 because those work incredibly well. Moving with the two sticks and using motion controls to just dial in that last little bit. But the motion controls here are not that great. I just can't get them dialed in. And the worst part is there is not quick button to reset your position like there is in Splatoon 3. So when you it gets off center you're holding the controller in all sorts of weird ways and in the intense fights it just doesn't work. Even using motion controls just to aim doesn't work because then it always fires off center. At least for me and horizontal motion controls don't work as well as vertical does. Thankfully the original MP was built with targeting in mind. So the game plays just fine with a dual stick configuration and the lock on system. Makes me wonder if MP3 would work as well with this limitation since that was built for motion controls. I guess I might have to resort to using the joycon if or when it ever comes out. I do like using the extra paddle switches on the Pro 2. That helps a lot juggling all the different functions. I think I was a lot better at that 20 years ago
The game itself holds up incredibly well. I know there aren't technically any improvements on the Switch 2. But it still looks great on a modern TV. It's really just incredible how much it holds up. I did forget how much backtracking there is. But also how linear it's designed to be. Sometimes I wanted to explore different areas ahead of where the game wanted me to but I wouldn't be rewarded at all. I would get frustratingly stuck without the right tools and waste 30 minutes in an area I wasn't supposed to be at. I feel like this is much less frustrating in a 2D metroid game. Also the map system is well built and extensive but still missing simple things like adding your own waypoints or notes. And navigating a 3D environment is a lot more difficult and I find I constantly have to pull up the map to make sure I'm going the right way and the right door I wanted to go into. And then having to navigate back and forth between different areas on the map is frustrating.
The game play is still amazing though. Absolutely amazing. The lock on and dodge control scheme really feels great in this game to this day. The gameplay feels challenging but not frustratingly so. Absolutely perfect. I still haven't finished it yet, about 2/3rd the way through.
I'm really hoping they release MP2 and 3 remaster soon, before MP4 is released. The whole reason I was waiting to play this one. But it's not looking great at this point.

Metroid Prime is a rare game that was actually improved with the Wiimote controls on the Wii remake. It's much easier to navigate and fighting bosses was somehow easier.
Does the Switch version offer Wii controls as an option for the joycons?

Yeah. You can select the GC original setup, the Wii setup, or modern using dual analog like any other FPS.

Re: Let's Talk about Metroid Prime
I think it was so improved because it improved upon the almost RE tank like controls of the first one. Where you had to hit ZR (?) to stand and freelook/aim. Which is really annoying. But the advantage was you could switch between visors and beams quickly because they used the d-pad and the C-stick. Now with dual analogue controls you can freely look but have to hit a button to switch between switching visors or beams on the d-pad. I think it's a testament to the lock on technique, starting with Ocarina of Time, how potentially clunky controls can lead to great gameplay.

Re: Let's Talk about Metroid Prime
Can someone help me if possible? I’m just stuck and have no idea where to go. I looked online, some walkthrough vids, but nothing told me how to get there only where it is when I get the little incoming message. Though that says go to Pirate research facility which doesn’t connect to my map at all. I just see it greyed in the beyond.
Im basically trying to get the thermal visor and spider ball. I read they are in Quaratine Cave in Phendrana Drifts. I can get to the north part, but there must be a south part that I cannot see on in-game map. I’ve been everywhere I can go on the maps except two which I don’t think can get to without certain upgrades. I’m just trying to find Phaedra’s Drifts South, I relieve.
If anyone knows or what the hell i’m talking abut give me some help? I would really appreciate, but no biggie if can’t. Thanks in advance.

At certain points you sometimes can’t traverse the entirety of an area. So you might have to get to phendrana drifts through magmoor caverns. Best bet is to see what item you’re looking for and find it on a video walkthrough on YouTube.
It’s hard to tell you where to go if we don’t know exactly what point of the game you’re at.
maybe this will help.

I’ll try. I just viewed so many vids, none told me how to get Phendrana South and I’ve been to every area many times. It’s so frustrating. The only thing making me not so frustrated is new one coming out. But I still would have loved to finish this again. Finished twice on GC, but have no clue here. And you’re right, it said to go to Magmoor, but I have. One area all off limits bc of magma pool and just can’t find this spider ball and thermal visor.

Re: Let's Talk about Metroid Prime
i know i have to go through Magmoor Caverns, but as i thought i said, one path is blocked by a magma pool (i assume you need an upgrade to suit) and the other way doesn't get me there either. there is no pathway marked on my map for the Pirate research core or station or whatever. it is just laying out in space without a guide to get you there.
thanks for the help though, tanman!

Re: Let's Talk about Metroid Prime
I went to every area on the map I had, thought I upturned every hole and secret path. I’m sure I’ve missed much still, but this game holds up so well. I wanted to finish before 4, but I don’t think that’s happening with me at the helm. Still, can’t wait for 4 and hope it’s great! Might see Prime 1 through and then do 4. The rate I’m playing it could happen, but I doubt.

Still sad they didn’t do a remaster for MP 2 & MP 3. My memory on those games is fuzzier than on MP 1.

Re: Let's Talk about Metroid Prime
Seems like the rumors of them being completed and ready to release were unfounded. Otherwise they surely would have done that by now. I think maybe the team was just hard at work on MP4 and MP remaster took a lot more work then they realized. I can't find the article now but I thought I read that that was the reason why they never released it.
Short answer. It's Nintendo
