Very funny show. Karate Island and Krusty Krushers are my favorite eps.

Any Adult Spongebob Squarepants fans here?

Even though its a show for kids, I find Spongebob to be really funny. There have been times (multiple) that I'll choke on what I'm eating or have the drink I'm drinking come out my nose because I'll start laughing so hard at something Patrick does or Spongebob says or anything. Anybody else here a Spongebob fan?

I'm 25 and it's made me laugh. You can tell the animators are partially influenced by Ren and Stimpy with the grosteque closeups they do...which are often funny. Patrick's stupidity is usually the source of laughter.

Unfortunately, the adult Spongebob Squarepants only lasted for one episode.

I enjoy it when the kids watch it and have no problem buying the season sets, but I personally find Fairly Odd Parents funnier.

I would never have caught that but I've never seen the show either.

Another fan here (I am 28). I prefer the first three seasons on the show, that is when it was truly at it's peak (sooo many adult jokes). However, I do enjoy a lot of the new ones.

Wife and I are both 30-something fans. Even when they're not tossing out jokes that are over the kids' heads, sometimes it's just delightful, goofy fun.

I hate this fucking show with a passion reserved previously for Barney and The Wiggles.

With that said, I'm glad some of the rest of you captive parent audience derive some enjoyment out of the show.

I find Fairly Oddparents borderline enjoyable, though it's also pretty high on the annoyance factor.

Funny thing is, the wife and I were watching Spongebob well before we became parents. Also enjoy Fairly Oddparents and some Wiggles stuff is amusing enough simply due to the energy of four guys (their "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing" bit is pretty enjoyable actually, they even have Leo Sayer sing the title track).

I think the difference is the attitude of the writers. For shows like Spongebob and Oddparents, you get a sense that the writers are trying to write fun stuff that can be enjoyed by kids and not be offensive, while shows like Barney are intentionally dumbed down to pander to kids, and that's what makes them so painful to watch.

Sad to hear about him. Hope he doesn't suffer too long with it. Not sure how that disease progresses.

Pretty weird looking at my 7 year old comment above. My wife and are now in our 40's, and our kid is 9, but we all still enjoy watching SpongeBob. The show is starting to show it's age in the more recent seasons (the characters are getting Flanderized a bit), but we can still put on an episode from the first few seasons and cackle like loons (Shanghaied remains one of their best episodes ever).

Re: Any Adult Spongebob Squarepants fans here?

I watched some of the early episodes of the show way back when it first started, but was watching less Nickelodeon around that time as I was getting past the age of their core demographic. I remember not disliking the show terribly but I wasn’t a devoted fan either. I actually picked up the second movie (Sponge Out of Water) on Blu-ray as I thought it looked amusing and did enjoy it for what it was.

I think one thing about the show that I dislike in general is I sort of credit it with the start of the downfall of Nickelodeon. It sort of became the Spongebob network basically and seems like they began airing it constantly (not sure if that’s still the case but looking at my DVR guide it seems to air a bunch). I probably wouldn’t watch the channel anymore anyways, but they used to have a lot better variety of programming it feels like. The early Nicktoons were great, and they had decent live action shoes too.

RIP to the creator.

Re: Spongebob Squarepants

RIP

Two years since my last post and the family still watches. Many times we play one of the DVDs before bed to get us in a good mood. I also follow several of the SpongeBob meme groups on Reddit and Facebook and you can tell the show means so much to so many people.
