Re: Network TV 2024 Post-Strike Schedule

Here's The CW's schedule and it's interesting.... Their three most well known shows are absent.

The CW has unveiled more midseason premiere dates for new and returning series, but there’s nary a Kryptonian nor a Texas Ranger in sight.

We’ll start with the announcements, beginning with the addition of the Sunday Night Movie to the network’s seven-day lineup, which kicks off on Jan. 7 with Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey’s The Wedding Planner.

The CW’s new schedule also includes the I Am documentary film collection, which chronicles the lives of a wide spectrum of famous individuals from Burt Reynolds and Chris Farley to Martin Luther King Jr. (We bet you never expected to see those names in the same sentence, huh?)

Third seasons of Canadian imports Son of a Critch and Family Law have also been given CW premiere dates, along with new series Wild Cards (starring Riverdale‘s Vanessa Morgan and Grey’s Anatomy‘s Giacomo Gianniotti).

Still to be announced are the premiere dates for Superman & Lois‘ fourth (and final) season, All American Season 6 and Walker Season 4.

Here’s a breakdown of the newest premiere announcements:

SATURDAY, DEC. 30
4 pm 2023 Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl
8 pm I Am Burt Reynolds

SATURDAY, JAN. 6
8 pm I Am Chris Farley

SUNDAY, JAN. 7
7 pm Sunday Night Movie: The Wedding Planner

THURSDAY, JAN. 11
8 pm Son of a Critch (new)
8:30 pm TBA
9 pm TBA
9:30 pm Children Ruin Everything Season 3 premiere

FRIDAY, JAN. 12
8 pm Penn & Teller: Fool Us (new)
9 pm Masters of Illusion (new)
9:30 pm World’s Funniest Animals (new)

SATURDAY, JANUARY 13
8 pm I Am Paul Walker

SUNDAY, JAN. 14
7 pm 29th Annual Critics Choice Awards

MONDAY, JAN. 15
8 pm I Am Martin Luther King Jr.

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 17
8 pm Wild Cards series premiere
9 pm Family Law Season 3 premiere

THURSDAY, JAN. 25
8 pm Son of a Critch Season 3 premiere
8:30 pm TBA
9 pm TBA
9:30 pm Children Ruin Everything (new)

TUESDAY, FEB. 20
8 pm Crime Nation series premiere

Honestly I wouldn’t expect the returning CW scripted shows to return until March or April. Especially Superman and Lois.

If it's going to take that long, they might as well hold them until September.

The CW isn’t functioning on the traditional September to May schedule anymore. They’ve let recent seasons run well into the summer.

Superman and Lois has extensive post production needed as well.

Thats why they’ve purchased these cheap Canadian shows to fill time until the main ones are ready.

I don’t think that’s the best idea. The average network tv viewer wouldn’t be expecting a new episode of Superman and Lois in the middle of July. They might as well hold them until September. They probably won’t though. I would hold them until the fall. There’s a reason viewership drops in the Summer unless it’s a must watch show. People are on vacation or outside enjoying the weather.

Just because they air it in the summer doesn’t make it a good business practice. People watch a lot less tv in the summer when they’re out of school and their normal routines.

Re: Network TV 2024 Post-Strike Schedule

Without the backing of a major studio anymore, the CW is acting more like what it is these days - a catch-all syndicated channel like we used to get over the air back in the 1970s and 1980s. They'll throw any cheap content they can get since nothing they air is a ratings gamechanger.

Re: Network TV 2024 Post-Strike Schedule

I was going to ask where's FGirl Island, but I guess that it's now called Lovers and Liars.
