I barely remember the Captain Marvel movie since I haven't seen it since the theaters. Any reason to revisit it before the seeing this series?

This more or less is a follow up to Fury and Maria's exploits after Spider-Man: Far from Home and the Skrulls. Remember the post credit scene showed Fury was actually in outer space.

D'oh. Okay. I just remembered the Skrulls playing a big part in that movie and assumed it had something to do with it. It has been so long since I saw Far From Home that I barely remember that scene. Originally Posted by DJariya

If you want quick refreshers on the major players, just watch Marvel Studios Legends, Season 2 Episodes 10-14, on Disney+.

Oh shit, that was unexpected.
It was ok. Seems like they are setting the table. They need to do a better job of making this where you don't know who anyone is at any given time. The last scene was a good start of that, though..

Disappointing. This iconic story should have been done in the movies. The low budget is already hurting it with the generic European look and lack of Skull transitioning.

Damn. They actually killed off Maria. When Cobie Smulders name wasn’t in the opening credits, I knew her role was limited.
The episode didn’t blow me away. No pun intended. It was mostly set up. But that whole last sequence was an interesting start. For a show that was shot entirely in Europe, it did feel a little small. Sucks for Fury that he doesn’t have his right hand person to bounce off of.
Rhodey’s part was pretty limited as well.

And, when the fuck did Fury get a new eye?

For as mediocre as nearly all of the MCU shows have been, usually the first episode is pretty good (followed by the decline), but this was a pretty poor first episode by even those standards. A nice cast (my main interest at this point) but they can't save a poorly written, shot and directed "series." I'll slog through another one or two but there's just no reason to believe it will improve.

Olivia Coleman was great in her limited screen time, but not sure how no one bothers to check for bugs after Fury leaves.

I’m getting serious Falcon and the Winter Soldier vibes from this series with the writing, sets, and acting so far.
I’ll reserve judgement on this as I know I’m going to the entire series regardless.
Sad to see Maria Hill go though. 😢

I was honestly started to doze off a couple of times during the episode. Hopefully it picks up, we'll see. Sorry to see Maria Hill buy it though.

It’s the same eye we saw in The Winter Soldier. Lots of people with vision in one eye still have a live, but unseeing eye in the other socket. It often even moves with the sighted eye.Originally Posted by OldBoy

My particular pet peeve, -and I saw it a lot when I recently re-watched the "X-Men" films, -is shape-shifters whose "change" includes their clothing. Is it cloth, is it skin?

I thought it was pretty great. Love the “can’t trust anyone” taken to the nth degree. Can’t believe they killed off Hill - that’s a pretty big deal, as she’s been a constant for years.
It was fun to see Gravik change into people we’d seen in the episode (the girl with the ball, guy at the bar). Which to me implied he was either all of those people or was following Fury throughout.
Looking forward to seeing what’s next!

Watched about 25 minutes.
Dirty bomb plot? Rebels fighting for a cause? Been there, seen that. Got a hint of Falcon and the Winter Solider with the terrorist separatist plot. I disliked that show.

I am glad to see that I am not alone in my thinking this episode was pretty blah. I was bored the majority of the time.
But I am really surprised that no one here mentioned how the conspiracy guy in the beginning was dressed and acting exactly like Charlie from Sunny in front of his conspiracy board. I caught that right away and unfortunately that was the best part of the episode.
