COMPENSATION AND RESIDUALS

Haggis reportedly submitted his Bond 22 draft, titled Sleep Of The Dead, just two hours before the strike began in November 2007, a year before the film’s release date.... Accordingly, Quantum Of Solace makes shaggy work of its plot.
Happily, the strike ended during filming and writer Joshua Zetumer performed some uncredited work with actors on set, performing rewrites based on their ideas on the day.

I would say that Transformers 2 certainly felt like it was made without a script, but the same could be said of all of the other Transformers movies.

I'm sure most casual observers of the entertainment industry don't really have a vesting interest in this possible strike. It's definitely not going to hurt us for content like it did 15 years ago, but of course it's going to affect other below the line staff.
But, this time around, I kind of hope the writer's do strike and stick it to the studios, who have been cheapening out and screwing them for years.
SAG union members are also getting screwed as well.

No one wants to take a big pay cut to keep your job or sort of keep your job.

Bob hearts Abishola has a massive cast for a thirty minute comedy. They had eleven series regulars take a pay cut. Eleven series regulars is a lot for a thirty minute comedy.

They should probably quit and find a better paying career - like the rest of us civilians do.
My last job was brutal and the pay was hourly. I put in the time to find a different career, which is more rewarding and successful.

I find this kind of comment insulting. It’s true Hollywood careers are not stable work. But these people are pursuing their goals and dreams from when they started learning their craft in college and film school. Not everyone wants a 9 to 5 office gig just because it’s a regular paycheck. I’ve been working in sports TV for 26 years, the last 12 freelance and love what I do. I don’t need or want a government job just because it’s stable. I’ve made friends and connections in my business and have always had work. I had to work very hard to get to where I'm at now and it didn't come easy. I paid my dues and earned some respect in my field. Being a movie or TV writer is a hard job. They deserve to be paid fairly. I know not everyone can make it and some move into difficult fields, but for those who do make it are being screwed over, they should be paid what they are entitled to.

Writers get paid pretty well, but it's not much in comparison to others in the field and they don't get residuals any more due to streaming. During the 2019-20 TV season, the guild minimum for a writer-producer was $6,967 per week. In today's dollars, that would be $8,184, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics' CPI calculator. To keep up with that in the upcoming contract, the WGA would need to negotiate a first-year increase of 10%

I had a conversation with my sister many years ago and she said she enjoyed her job, but wanted more pay. I responded that EVERYONE wants more pay at their current job. Who doesn't want to be paid more? I would love a higher salary. But in the end, I evaluated the pros and cons of my career, accepted it, and I'm 100% happy.
Now, not everyone has to accept it like me. I understand, let them strike. It's their career, their choice. My opinion is to pursue a different career.

I assume this will immediately affect SNL, talk shows and soap operas. Network TV is in the brief offseason right now. HBO and streaming shows that are filming for later this year or 2024 will have to shut down.

Most reality shows don't use union writers anyway. Last strike, we got a winter season of Big Brother to replace regular shows on CBS. We're close to the normal time for Big Brother so that should happen as normal. CBS should have 2 seasons of Survivor, 1 season of Amazing, and maybe 1 or 2 seasons of Tough as Nails in the can which they'll have for the Fall. I don't think NBC would have any issue with running AGT through the summer as normal.

SNL will probably cancel their show this weekend as well.
Aside from talk shows, late night, SNL, this strike will really only affect shows currently in production or delay writers rooms for 2023-24. Daily soaps who are usually weeks ahead in filming will be affected.
Quantum Leap is currently filming season 2. They will have to shut down I assume.

If online video didn’t exist, I’d suggest the networks fill empty time by putting a camera somewhere in public and letting people do stuff in front of it.
