Re: Writers Strike 2023

Sounds good to me, most movie/television execs seem to have their heads up their asses anyway, the industry probably doesn't need most of them.

Saw an ad today for the revival of Kitchen Nightmares. I have to say that I am excited for that.

If the strike results in this we have already won.

Re: Writers Strike 2023

I got so tired of Gordon Ramsay’s routine and he has way too many shows on the air. He’s probably the most overexposed Food personality.

Even without a writer’s strike, FOX has been in massive decline for years for quality scripted shows.

I wonder what Ramsey has done or who he has secret photos of to warrant multiple nights of FOX programming with his shows?

I'm not surprised. You're not gonna win over the public with that stand.

The public does not care past the first few days. Just like the writers strike, there was no coverage a week or two after besides heavy entertainment sites.

That's not just A WGA writer, that's Adam fucking Conover, who Ruins Everything. Love that guy. He's done several interviews since the strike started.

I found his rant to be nothing more than a reductive and cliched narrative, completely lacking story progression and character development. And this man wants a raise...please.

Re: Writers Strike 2023

Does anyone know what this means for conventions? Can actors attend or not? I'm set for Star Trek Las Vegas in a couple of weeks, and there are dozens of cast members scheduled to attend - I've purchased photo ops with Shatner, Koenig, Takei, Mount, Dorn, Frakes, Spiner and a whole lot more. It would be a huge disappointment if none of them show up, I mean, I'd understand. They have to stand with their union. I just don't know if this is something they are prohibited from doing while on strike.

Re: Writers Strike 2023

From some quick Googling, actors are not allowed to go to these conventions while striking.

Re: Writers Strike 2023

My understanding is they can attend but not to promote a particular thing they're working on. But they can still sign autographs or whatever.

edited to add: I guess what I said is true, they are allowed to attend, but SAG-AFTRA prefers they don't even do that (at least for SD) even if they don't outright restrict it. I think someone in another thread (the comic convention thread?) reached out to their smaller con they were going to and they said they wouldn't be affected, but I guess we'll see. I'd think they'd be fine with the smaller cons and signing booths or whatever but yeah no panels or anything.

https://comicbook.com/movies/news/sa...omic-con-2023/

Crabtree-Ireland noted that union members continue to be allowed to participate in autograph signings or events that are "not related to specific companies or projects" produced under the AMPTP TV/Theatrical Contracts. While actors can attend Comic-Con as long as they do so without publicity — meaning they don't take part in panels or interviews promoting films or TV shows — it was reported before Thursday's strike vote that SAG-AFTRA leadership prefers its members skip the confab altogether.

Well this is sure going to change the complexion of STLV. It's my first convention in 40 years.

Hmm I was planning on attending Chicago Fan Expo this year. Good thing I didn’t get tickets yet just in case.

Re: Writers Strike 2023

It doesn’t affect that kind of convention at all. Those actors at smaller conventions are not there under contract by a studio to be there.

Cons like SD and NYC Comic Con, which are heavily involved with major studios, will be affected.

I’m pretty sure the talent there are independent contractors and not representing Paramount for autographs and photo ops.

However, they will not be able to do a panel and say talk about Star Trek Picard.

Re: Writers Strike 2023

This was posted by Galaxy Con, which is in 2 weeks:

Will the SAG-AFTRA strike mean my favorite celeb won’t be able to appear at GalaxyCon events?

Celebrity guests will still be appearing at our events as advertised. The only thing that can potentially be affected is what the guests can discuss. As SAG-AFTRA only affects Theatrical Contracts, members are not permitted to participate in the promotion of/services for work. So while they may not be able to talk about current projects, they can still discuss their personal life, hobbies, background, etc with you! As our celebrities appear under Personal Appearance Contracts, the provision forbidding appearances does not apply to events like GalaxyCon.

Will celebrities be allowed to do photo-ops and sign autographs?

Yes! Since photo ops and autographs are not intended as promotion or endorsement of any works, you can still purchase photos with your favorite celebrities and get items signed!

If Armin is right, then the TNG Reunion panel could still take place, and I still get to all my photo ops.

Also cons don't want customers cancelling in droves so it's in their best interest to say it will be business as usual even if they know a huge number of talent will not be attending.

I mean short term, sure. I'm not sure that's a great strategy for good will/returning customers.
