Probably for the best for a variety of reasons. Ford has said that he doesn’t want anyone else to play the character and while it’s not his decision maybe Disney doesn’t want the backlash that Solo had by trying to recast him.

Also Ford is too old to do much with the franchise unless it was him bookending flashback stories which again he wouldn’t agree to.

The new movie should just be the capper on the franchise. Not everything needs to last for as long as it can be milked dry.
