If that had cut that unwatchable bit, they wouldn't have had to cut off every winner's speech after 45 seconds.

Yep, it sucks but it seems to be the new standard. Did they even have Norm MacDonald?

I was just about to say, they cut off every speech 15 seconds in, but we get a minute and a half of watching people walk up to the podium to present an award.

But then again, 99% of winner's speeches consist of thanking people that no one's even heard of. Yes, it's good for said people to get the recognition of what they do behind the scenes, but at the same time it's not compelling viewing for us.

No. Norm MacDonald passed away just before last year's Emmys, and was honored then.

Re: 2022 Emmy Awards discussion -- Show: 9/12/22 on NBC

I think the big issue is that Emmy voters don't really watch all episodes of all shows (who has the time?).
Instead, they are given a single episode of the season to vote off of.

It's become more about the live performer than about the deceased. Heaven forbid if John Legend isn't in every angle.

That's not the issue. Voters were asked to decide which episode of TV was better directed,
This

or this

And chose the former. It's not about access. They pick their favorite shows and performers, regardless of merit. It sucks actually.

Barry Season 3, Episode "710N". It's phenomenal, as is the entire show actually. Three seasons of 8 30-minute episodes each.

I'll have to give it a watch sometime. It's a great clip. It's exactly what would happen if someone tried a Hollywood-type stunt in real life.

Barry is amazingly well made, Hader directed that episode and ronny/lily which is just stupendously ridiculous. He has a future in directing if he choses to pursue it.

TV Ratings: Emmys Fall to All-Time Low (Again)

The awards dip below 6 million viewers for the first time ever.

No surprise there. I didn't see a single ad for it, there are no massively popular shows nominated outside of Stranger Things and it was boring as fuck.

Based on looking at the NBC screen at the gym for the last few weeks, I was well-informed about two things: Kenan was hosting the Emmys and Camilla Cabello is joining The Voice.
.
.

But what I really came to post is that I am completely mystified by the love for White Lotus. Maybe special Emmys to Daddario and Sweeney in recognition of their having real and spectacular breasts, but I found the show to be a disappointment.

I thought it was fine but unremarkable. The thing is : this year was quite weak for Limited Series. Most of the compeditors weren't very strong either. Certainly not like last year's bloodbath between Mare of Easttown and The Queen's Gambit. And what was probably the strongest Limited Series, Station Eleven, wasn't even nominated.

It was weird seeing the annoying contestant from The Amazing Race and Survivor clean up at the Emmys though.

Wow, didn’t even know Ralph was up for Emmy. I love it, but it’s not a show that gets talked about a lot, but all who see, including myself, loves AE. Sleeper hit of last year. Way to go!

I've never seen it, but was surprised to see it's all up on HBO Max (at least for now). Will check it out.

He's a good substitute teacher though.

That must be a reference to a show I never watched. That Laura Dern one, maybe?

School of Rock. And technically, we don't know if he was a good substitute teacher because his roommate stole his identity and taught in his place.

Dopesick and The Dropout were incredible; I don't think it was a weak category at all.

Those feeling salty about Saul, there's always the hope they'll make up for it next year since it covers this final season.

Wait, but the previous season of Saul (season 5) was more than two years ago (aired 2/2020) - that would've been covered in last years Emmys, leaving season 6 to this year's, no?
