I assume she's be playing...an old lady. I have no problem with that.
If she plays a young law clerk or Lalo's new romantic interest, (or Kaylee) I will be pissed though.

Most comedic actors and acrtresses are pretty terrific in dramatic roles. I am not sure they are using this as hype as much as just informational. I dread the last 6 episodes in a way as series can sometimes lose their way ending things. But BB didn't so I am hopeful they will nail the landing. Still a bit devastated that my Wendy theory was shot all to hell. (j/k)

I trust Vince and his writers. If they developed a character that fit what Burnett has to offer, I look forward to seeing it. Plus, it's not like she was just cast. Keep in mind, they already wrapped filming of the series. She's done her work already. PR and cast announcements are always delayed weeks/months.

I would guess she is a member of the Sandpiper community and somehow ties into the class action settlement. I expect her appearance to be a blip in the series, it's not like they are bringing in some hot music act flash-in-the-pan kind of person, she is a living legend and that is not something that applies to many people. It's probably safe to say Bob and the cast have a mutual admiration for Carole and she seems to be a fan of the show.

Peter Schuler: He's dead, sir.
VG: Danny Kaye?
PS: Also dead.
VG: Fine, then book that hot new dame comedienne, Carol Burnette!

Burnett and this announcement and tweet or whatever is a gimmick to promote and gain more viewers. plain and simple. this show has NEVER done or needed that nor has Breaking Bad. these shows don't need to.
these two shows are special and stand on the writing and directing and acting of a wide array of personalities (who are or were not highly known, especially in serious roles like these) and everything else that goes into such amazing shows.
casting anyone and announcing as they did is completely contradictory to what this show is. that's all i meant.

My guess? She'll play Howard's waspy grieving mother. She's got the stature and gravitas to carry the part, even if it's a bigger role for so late in the show's run. She's old enough. She looks the part. It makes sense that we haven't seen or heard of her before (we only just met his wife for Pete's sake).

Is her casting that different than Michael McKean or Ed Begley Jr.?

Or when Danny Trejo showed up out of nowhere for an episode?
Or when Charlie Rose was suddenly in an episode interviewing a guy from a mid-tier tech company?
Dude, your complaint is inconsistent and makes no sense.

It's obviously a last ditch effort to save this show from cancelation.

Like when they hired Academy Award nominee Robert Forster to show up for one episode in the final season?
