Gilbert Gottfried has passed away

Re: Gilbert Gottfried has passed away
I just listened to the most recent new episode of "Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast" and it was full of everything that made that podcast so special -- classic monster movie discussion, Gilbert's spot-on impersonations of people no one remembers, vintage Hollywood gossip, etc.. This one's a punch in the gut for sure.

Wow this one hurts. There will never be any comic like Gilbert. . I saw him recently on Joe Rogan's podcast and he was so much fun. I usually don't care for dirty comedy, but Gilbert's brand was so unique. Filthy as hell, but not mean spirited. He's a legend for telling the first 9/11 joke, getting booed and instead goes into one of the most dirtiest outrageous versions of the Aristocrats joke which has the place howling.

So sad to hear of his passing. The first thing I ever saw him in was Beverly Hills Cop II. I knew right then this guy is something special. May he rest in peace.

Used to watch him every weekend as host of USA's Up All Night. I'm sure I saw him in movies and TV before that but it was on Up All Night where he became part of my routine on weekends.
His Amazing Colossal podcast with co-host Frank Santopadre was a gem to learn about classic Hollywood and revel in TV and movie trivia. So many great interviews. Gilbert was an encyclopedia of TV theme songs and could remember the words to the most obscure ones it was incredible and hilarious to hear. He seemed ubiquitous popping up on talk shows, or Hollywood Squares, or on METV's Svengoolie. I'm just beyond belief he's gone.

My favorite Gilbert movie moment. The way he picks up the phone and yells “Bitch!” cracks me up every time.

Re: Gilbert Gottfried has passed away
This could be my favorite Gilbert on Howard Stern bit EVER. And that's a deep well to dive into.
Basically Abe Hirschfeld (a New York developer with the thickest Jewish accent imaginable who is currently in jail for attempting to have his wife murdered) calls in to the show while Gilbert is sitting in. Gilbert immediately starts goofing on him for sounding like Dracula. Then Gilbert somehow forces Hirschfeld to tell THE SAME JOKE over and over again while Howard and his staff are COMPLETELY losing it.
This thing is magic.

I used to get him confused with the guy in the Police Academy movies who's always shrieking and hocking a loogie.

This is so sad. He was on the talk show I produce in 2014 and could not have been nicer. Seemed excited just to talk to us. What a shit time for that generation of comedians.

Re: Gilbert Gottfried has passed away
I got to interview Gottfried a few years back for article. Making him laugh with a rib towards Bobcat Goldthwait is certainly a life moment I keep bringing up.
After his comedy show later that day he stayed back and posed for pics, met everybody and didn't seem put off at all by all the autograph requests. I think I remember him yelling out something like: "Ok, everybody who brought a parrot go to the back"
His moments on Stern are some of the funniest things I've ever heard.
Look up the "gaba goo" segment. Just typing it and I am laughing.
Another comic that will be very missed.

he seemed like a heck of a guy IRL. A sad loss for the world of comedy.

Here's a pic of me and Gilbert (and my wife's finger) from January 2020. We got to chat for a little bit, he was definitely shy and softspoken offstage. He was working the comedy club at the casino/gaming/Tribal organization I've worked with for 14 years now, so I got a bit more of chat time with him after the show. He asked what I did for the company, I told him I managed IT, which drew a blank response. I said something along the lines of "I'm half Jew, half Schvartze, but I'm terrible at sports and shit with money so here I am" and he broke into that inimitable Gilbert laughter. My wife (the one with the finger) later said "Holy crap, you just cracked Gilbert up!" I'll never forget that night. It was also my 49th birthday. Best gift ever.

The one I cracked him up with went something like this:
Me: So, you're saying you embellish the voice because that's what makes a lot of the comedy?
Gilbert: Of course! I mean, can you hear that voice doing anything else?
Me: (laughs) No, I guess not. I mean, it'd be like Bobcat Goldwait teaching an English class.
Gilbert (busts out laughing) (pauses): Yeah, yeah. But he could definitely teach science.
PS: I can't believe your wife fingered Gilbert Gottfried.
