Good for being able to make it through a review. I can understand why she's annoying to some but she has good content and lots of it.

Never seen her reviews but based on the thumb alone I won't watch it. I avoid every vid that has that over-excited or dumb exaggerated shock expression which is a good percentage of them these days.

Imagine Barbara Walters a little drunk, and on cocaine.

If it is as good as the early reviews I might watch it even slower. I am finding I still really enjoy some shows with a single episode a week. Severance was that way.

A positive, but much less enthusiastic, review from a critic I truly respect :

Complaints are mainly that it's way too bloated now. Which I get.

Interesting factoid he mentions : Episode 9 will be the longest episode of American television by at least a half hour (over the never-ending MASH finale).

re: Stranger Things (S4E01) -- "Chapter One: The Hellfire Club"

As a big fan of this show, I suspect I will enjoy the 'bloat,' but we shall see. In the past, the scenes that don't directly advance the plot have often been pretty good character-building moments, like the Nancy/Steve relationship stuff in S1/S2, or the Snowball Dance, or the Robin/Steve bathroom confessional. But overall I'd say the series has been fairly 'lean' in the past (S2 episode 7 aside) and so I hope they haven't overdone things this time. Overall I'm excited about the longer runtime, I just hope the quality hasn't dropped.

I saw this on reddit:

re: Stranger Things (S4E01) -- "Chapter One: The Hellfire Club"

Normally I would not suggest this at all, but due to 1. the size/length of the episodes (which may make people view slower than normal), 2. the number of episodes per Volume, and 3. beyond Obi-Wan, it won't be too busy with other TV, I think I'm going to make individual Episode thread for this season. I don't think any other season dump streaming show really needs it, but this is one may in this case. This will turn into the Episode 1 thread and I'll make the rest tomorrow.

I agree, I just hope people will be careful and not spoil later episodes in threads for earlier episodes.

That is my main concern when it comes to doing this. If that is an overall big fear, then I won’t.

I will probably watch all of volume 1 in the first couple of days, so I'm not too concerned personally about getting spoiled, just don't want anything ruined for others. I think it's a good idea, though.

re: Stranger Things (S4E01) -- "Chapter One: The Hellfire Club"

I am going to have to be disciplined and stay out of this thread for a bit after this season officially starts streaming. I just know I will not binge it fast, maybe the first 2 eps on Friday, giving me some time to also watch Obi Wan, and another ep on Sat and if I am lucky I keep up the momentum and am done with Season 4 Pt 1 by the time I go back to work next Wed (taking this Friday and Tuesday off for an extra long weekend).

People must be checking out previous seasons. It's back in Netflix's Top 10.

I would say make separate threads with a reminder in the first post not to discuss later episodes.

Its a great idea. We have so many threads for worthless and terrible shows that most don’t care about at all.

this is a biggie and dex14 made the correct executive decision to do individual episode threads

Re: Stranger Things (S4E01) -- "Chapter One: The Hellfire Club"

Looks like it will drop at 2 am Central Time, so I'm not going to try to stay up and watch any of it overnight. Should be able to get in a couple of episodes tomorrow after work. I've been rewatching season 3 this week so I've got the S3 finale left to watch tonight.

Since the Duffer brothers know that the next season will be the last, I wonder how much resolution season 4 will have compared to the previous seasons. They've always had a pretty satisfying climax to each season, with a tease at the end for more to come. I hope that's the case again this time--especially considering the length of this season--but I won't be surprised if there's a cliffhanger ending.

I don't have much in the way of expectations for particular storylines this season, other than I'd like to see Joyce and Hopper together again and, like, together. I've watched all the teasers and trailers and the first eight minutes I posted earlier, but other than that I've avoided any leaks/spoilers about what S4 will hold. Looking forward to just taking it all in.

See you in the upside down.

Re: Stranger Things (S4E01) -- "Chapter One: The Hellfire Club"

this isn't even out and yet 4 pages? and all those episode threads at once is going to get hella confusing. i can see 1 per week if it was a weekly show, but that's not how this show goes. but remembering the names of the eps if you binge and saying something you shouldn't have is going to get annoying as well.

not to mention some of the ep names seem like spoilers...

This was the general season 4 anticipation/news thread that has now been renamed as the S4 episode 1 thread. That's why it already has 4 pages.

Re: Stranger Things (S4E01) -- "Chapter One: The Hellfire Club"

That’s kinda dumb. Why not start a new one? Who wants to or even will know to scroll 4 pages for thoughts on first ep?
