Caught up to the "mid-season" finale last night.... this show is excellent. It's better than 1883 and WAY better than the current version of Yellowstone. My god is Helen Mirren a treasure.

She is amazing in this but the last time I saw her was in Red2 was a bit surprised at how much she changed in the 9 or so years.

I’m catching up on this show now and it’s pretty good after three shows.
A minor gripe about these full season threads is it’s hard to know what episode is being discussed especially when someone says .
Wow I can’t believe that happened and that’s the full post.

On to ep 4 now and have to agree that it was surprising they let Banner there without making sure he was dead.

When Ford was looking at h8mself in the mirror and said he didn’t know who that old man was is something I find myself doing on a daily basis and I don’t like to look at myself in the mirror anymore.

Haven’t started 1883 yet, should I watch that before coninueing this one?
Anyhow great show so far.

It would be worth watching 1883 as it is fantastic and some of the voice-over this season is done by a character from the show. not essential viewing but it may help. there is not a whole lot left of the season that has aired yet so you may as well watch up to the season break and then binge 1883, imho 1883 is the best of the batch thus far.

I have no idea what Taylor S. is trying to do here, and it seems he's shooting from the hip on ideas and leaving it up to fans to like or dislike what sticks to the saddle.

I don't like this series. Loved 1883, loved Seasons 1-4 of Yellowstone, so I guess it's just me and expecting something consistent. The Safari time travels just turned me off.

I caught up on it this week and I thought it was a big step down from 1883. Mirren is great, but everything is so disjointed there’s no flow.

For a show that only that only has 3 episodes left, and I assume they weren’t sure of season 2, this show seems to be wasting a lot of time on unimportant things. We didn’t need half an episode where Spencer is trying to book a trip back to America.

I knew they were going to waste time with the return trip to America.

the whole thing is such a step down from 1883 and is just riding on it's stunt casting.

And if torture against women is your thing, this is the show for you. Good lord.

I thought the storyline with the school was interesting at first, but since it hasn't really revealed the purpose, or how it relates to the overall mythology, it has become really grating to watch.

Julia Schlaepfer really really shines on this though. Hopefully, she gets a lot of work after this.

Re: 1923: A Yellowstone Origin Story (Paramount+) - S: Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren - premieres 12/18/22

Regarding the Indian school. I don't think Sheridan is just creating gratuitous violence and abuse to teen Indian girls just for the sake of doing so. Yes, it's uncomfortable to watch, but I'm sure he did research that the young Indian girls actually experienced that during that time period. And remember, Teonna's last name is Rainwater and I think her storyline must tie into Thomas Rainwater's past and the formation of their reservation.

I didn't mind the storyline with Spencer and Alex. There is only so much they can do with the Yellowstone storyline right now, especially with Jacob still recovering from his injuries. And then that suicide happens. And also Spencer's storyline is 3 months in the future.

And yes I agree Julia Schlaepfer is so charming and lights up every scene she's in. I had a feeling that Captain of the tug boat was going to keel over.

I do think it's great that they kept Isobel May as the ghost narrator. I love her narration and it adds a haunting element to what the Dutton family has gone through.

What a breezy 70 minutes episode 5 was. I kid. The unrelenting gloom of this series has got me on the ropes, but I'm going to hang with it.

Unless there a big time jump coming up it doesn’t look like anything is going to happen this season and this is all just setting up season 2.

Benjen Stark handing over his dead wife’s ring to a woman he just fished out the ocean was eye rolling.

Alex’s last line was almost to obvious to be foreshadowing, but Sheridan’s writing has been a mess so who knows.

This started off so great, but with only two eps left I agree it's just dragging.

Yup. The pacing on this show is terrible and the does not flow well between the storylines.

That's not to say I don't like the show, but it is a big issue.

Call me sappy, but I'm really liking the Spencer and Alex storyline. The only thing is that since they are 3 months ahead, I'm not sure how they will link up with the Yellowstone storyline.

The only storyline in this week's episode that felt out of place was Teonna's. And now her grandma is dead.

Jacob does look hell bent on vengeance against Banner. I wonder if that will be brought up in the final 2 episodes along with Timothy Dalton being the mystery bad guy. They have a lot to tie up to wrap up this short season.

Not a high bar to hit, but that was the best episode of the the second half. The lack of Spencer until the last part of the episode and focus on the others was good to see.

There’s no way this wraps up next week so Sheridan must have been told there would be a season 2 when he started writing.
