I love this show. It's so hilarious and I'm happy that ratings are strong.

This week's episode is the best yet, IMO. I live the character development. They're really getting into the groove with the stories and character interaction.

Ava rules
That was probably the best episode of the season, even the secondary story was great.

Agree, this show gets better each episode. The whole "I'm a Baltimore pizza guy" thing was hilarious also.

They really sold the Baltimore pizza gag by showing that soppy mess of a pizza that the guy brought back from Baltimore, and the sight of that nasty slice of pizza almost made me gag. This is one of those shows that I think caught folks by surprise, because prior to it airing I had not heard much about the show on-line (granted, I usually just get my tv news from this site, AV Club, and sometimes I remember to check out tvline). My thoughts after watching a few episodes was that this show is a great watch but I thought the lack of chatter showed that we might get lucky if at least 12 episodes aired before a decision was made to cancel.
Then a funny thing happened, I noticed that folks on this site and others were showing the show some love and it was getting positive word of mouth, and after googling to see what other news about the show was out there I came upon the clip of Kimmel having the show's creator on and that great emotional re-union he set up between Quinta and the teacher she named the show after.
It is nice to see a good show like this one get shown quite a bit of love on the internet. It helps that the show is filled with good/great actors. but sometimes a well-cast sitcom still fails so I never assume that well known names in a sitcom will be enough to keep a show airing.
Also, for some reason one of the funniest lines from last night's episode was when the janitor is asked what his favorite day is and he says Tuesday because it is trash day, and the teachers all say, ahh...that tracks (or words to that effect). It was also worth a laugh or two when Quinta says Monday is her favorite day and everyone pretty much in unison says favorite day fail.

The show is getting much better. This last episode was a lot of fun. It's always a good thing when "inner-city" kids are portrayed in a good-light like this. I honestly can't remember the last show that portrayed young kids in a city public school in a positive way.

I can't find it now, but there was a story the other day that ABC hasn't had a comedy that has had the combined viewership of live and streaming as this show has since Modern Family.

I really love this show. It’s very a very positive and enthusiastic look at teaching in an inner city school and the kids aren’t little shits as they’re usually depicted in most sitcoms like this.

I've been burning through this series over the last month or so. Didn't grab me at first but season 2 was excellent. Hope season 3 isn't delayed too badly from the strike.

I’ve kinda been let down by this season tbh. It’s been fine but feel like season 1 was a bit stronger and was hoping for an improvement as that’s almost always the case with tv shows going into their second season.

Liked season 2 a tad less then one.
Really need them to soften or make the principal a ton less unlikable.
the idea that she stole the job from the guy who was supposed to get the job doesn’t sit well for me.
She almost ruins the show for me.

You do realize Ava is one of the most popular characters on the show right? A lot of that is due to her absurd characterization. If you see the Real Life Teachers on Social Media talk about this show, they enjoy her since they've all apparently worked with Principals or Teachers like her.
If it helps, they're giving her a story arc where she becomes more qualified for the gig. It started last season...

I realize that. It’s okay that I don’t like her as a character.
She doesn’t entertain me and that’s what I’m watching the show for, to be entertained.
It’s the only weak thing on the show for me.
One of my best friends, a life long friend is a teacher in Philly and she doesn’t disagree with me.

Of course it's ok that you don't like her.

i guess I was trying to let you know they're not gonna change what you, and your lifelong teacher friend, hate about her anytime soon.

I'm with whotony . . . Ava was a funny stereotype in the first season. I'm watching the second season now, and she is insufferable. The actress is doing an amazing job with the part, but the writing is too much. She's crossed from funny stereotype to downright offensive. I cannot recall the last episode where she brought anything of value, either as the character or in the character's world.
And that comes from a guy who's first principal was a convicted felon (with numerous allegations and license losses from other states) who was running an organized cheating ring on state tests (among other questionable actions).
My son tried to get me to watch some Canadian show about a guy who becomes a teacher, and I had the same issue with it. The show would have been OK, but the character was so over-the-top that he is just disgusting.

Fair, enough. I guess I feel like Ava is doing what Ava is supposed to do if yall hate her so much.

She just seems so out of place on a show with so many likable characters.
