Re: SNL General Discussion Thread

Seriously though, we have, what, 2 episodes left in the 50th season after Quinta Brunson.
Any guesses who those two might be? Probably someone in support of a ln early relase, big Summer film. Big stars preferably.

Tom Cruise is the dream, but he's never even cameoed on the show before.
Tom Hanks or Bryan Cranston for the new Wes Anderson film?
Natalie Portman or Jon Krazinski for the upcoming Guy Richie film Fountain of Youth?
Florence Pugh for Thunderbolts?
ScarJo? Though she's appeared a few times this season already

Re: SNL General Discussion Thread

"Friendship" starring Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd opens in May. IDK if Robinson is big enough to get the hosting invite.

Jenna Ortega has a movie coming out in May. Ana De Armas for "Ballerina" would be good.

Should we expect a parade of guest cameos for the final episode, or did they blow that wad with the special?

Maybe a past cast member that brings along a bunch of friends.

Would be interesting, but I don't think Cruise would do it. He's an A+-list actor and a lot of those folks wouldn't/won't host it (I'm sure they've been asked) -- Sandra Bullock, Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Kevin Costner, Harrison Ford, Leonardo DiCaprio, Dustin Hoffman, Al Pacino, Keanu Reeves, Julia Roberts, Jack Nicholson. Tom Hanks and DeNiro are really the only one out of that movie-star level who's done it that I can think of off-hand. Out of all of them, I think Keanu would be the most likely to do it.

Woudn't object to Natalie Portman making a return. She was good in her previous appearances. I'd also like to see Cranston show up.

Scarlett is already on so much she might as well be a featured player.

A really big get for the final show of the 50th would be Keanu for Ballerina.

Re: SNL General Discussion Thread

Bill Murray said he wanted to host a show if he gets the chance.

I hope a former SNL star.

She has not blown up after leaving SNL but I wonder if Vanessa Bayer would host the show in the future or declined?

Bill Murray would be a great host for the finale of the milestone season.

Dan Soder said he auditioned but watched his friend Pete Davidson get the job on the Carvey and Spade Fly Off Wall podcast.

He had a Jason Statham sketch and they changed it from edibles to steakums.

Lame attempt to redo Jon Hamm's John Ham, but the name Jason in Jason Steakum has no meaning. Dumb.

Soder said once you audition they can use your sketch ideas under the contract you sign even if you don't make it into the cast.

Since Dan Soder is not a lawyer, and SNL did not use his exact sketch idea, I'd like to hear from anyone else who did not make it that SNL took their specific sketch idea.

Sad that SNL really has brainwashed people in the comedy world to believe that shit. Imagine the Producers of NCIS being like here is $50 dollars for acting on our Primetime show because what you are really getting is high levels of exposure.

Well, $3000 a week is 60 times more than $50. I don't make $3000 a week.

For the past 30 years, new cast members on SNL are almost exclusively drawn from the worlds of stand-up and sketch comedy. Any of those people making $3000 a week BEFORE they get on SNL? How much were Tina Fey and Rachel Dratch and Amy Poehler making doing live improv shows?
If getting on SNL is a step down financially from what you are making as a comic or an actor, then don't take a job on SNL. Seems pretty simple.

As for the brain-washing.

If you can't see that being on SNL opens up opportunities, then you are just fucking blind.

SNL cast members do commercials. They get cast in movies.
If they are stand-ups, they get paid more when they go out on the road.
They get to star in streaming TV series that don't require the time commitment that TV used to demand. They can host podcasts and game shows and talk shows.

Who was Pete Davidson before he showed up on SNL? Who was Bowen Yang, who has three movies coming out in a year's time?
How many SNL cast members, after having successful tenures on the show, have gone on to star in movies or sitcoms? Do you think Adam Sandler or Will Ferrell would argue that they do not owe their careers to SNL?

Is there anything in the world of American comedy that presents a better opportunity for fame and fortune than being on Saturday Night Live?

Good call, but I'd be more impressed if you'd predicted Walton Goggins.

Re: SNL General Discussion Thread

Was hoping they might bring back Michael B. Jordan since Sinners is doing so well, but I guess because it's doing well it doesn't need the extra PR. Goggins might be good, and ScarJo seems more like they needed someone for the finale so they got Colin Jost to ask his wife for a favor.

Speculation that Jost and Che are going to retire, so Scar might be there for Jost's last show after 20 years.

I hope that is not true.

They have host for over 10 years which is the longest but took it for granted they would always be there.

I know Jost didn't start off at WU and was a staff writer for a while, but holy shit - 20 years already?
Even surprised that he's already spent 11 years doing WU.

Re: SNL General Discussion Thread

Maybe Collin Quinn was the only guy that was not a cast member or writer that got the WU anchor job so they promote somebody from the cast or a writer working behind the scenes?

Yang might be too popular to take him away from sketches though Fallon and Poehler still did them when they were WU anchors.

Michael Longfellow should get the WU job since he has not really found his niche or voice on the show and his voice and cadence sounds like it would fit a anchor role.
