Wasn't it just something that came up on their podcast? Makes sense to me that they might talk about some old sketches and their thoughts on them today.

I have a picture from an historical figure event in the late 80s at my middle school - I was Davy Crockett and brought my dad's unloaded gun with me as a prop and next to me is a white girl in full-on blackface as Harriet Tubman. It's fucking wild.

Ah, cool, I wasn't aware of the context. But in any case it's brought up in a modern context and that seems fine to distance himself from it/demonstrate that he's changed (at least in mindset). No harm no foul.

It probably came up because Sharon Stone was a guest on the podcast, and Carvey likely rewatched the SNL episode in order to be prepared with questions, etc. , watched the "offending" sketch and thought "Uh oh, that didn't age well" and felt the need to address the sketch with Sharon. In this particular situation, I kind of get it.

In fifth grade we did book reports on biographies of historical figures and we had to dress up as our subject. I did my report on Benjamin Banneker, an African-American scientist in the 1700s. I wore a shirt with a vest and fashioned a wide-brimmed bucket hat into a tricorn hat using some safety pins. And my mom got me some brown face powder... I was 10 and it was the 80s (in a pretty white small town) and no one batted an eye.

I hope that you have tracked down all of your classmates from that grade, and sent them a written apology for subjecting them to your offensive and racist behavior.

Also as has been brought up here “You couldn’t make that today” is a very frequent talking point on the podcast.

re: SNL General Discussion Thread

You can blame the writers too and maybe Conan O' Brien wrote or came up with some of those ideas back then.

Glad we lived in a era with no cellphones and social media so none of those school plays are recorded and only the people who went through and lived during that time remember those stories.

I don't want to relive impersonating Kid Frost a Spanish rapper in a presentation with another guy in Spanish III again during my junior year in high school.

I was really hoping for a Travis & Taylor show, but this will be cool.

I hadn't even thought of that. Yeah, that'd be a good one.

There are still two episodes left after that one. They would probably save T&T for the season finale, anyway.

That combination would pull in crazy ratings. Probably be most-watched scripted program of the 21st century.

Also helps that they were both good hosts and Kelce turned out to be a decent actor with good comedic timing.

re: SNL General Discussion Thread

Will he become a Democrat now?

Rob Schneider is refuting a recent Politico report (via Vanity Fair) that claimed a stand-up comedy set he performed last year at a networking event for Republican lawmakers was cut shorts after his jokes bombed.

Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith reportedly walked out of the room and the set was allegedly cut short after just 10 minutes.

“I’m not changing my material or apologizing for my jokes to anybody,” Schneider said in a statement to TMZ when asked about the report. “Enough with this woke bullshit. America’s sick of it. I did 50 minutes because that’s what I was paid to do.

Nobody removed me from stage. Somebody waved to me at the 50 minute mark.”

According to the Politico report, Schneider’s set was full of “raunchy” material and some jokes were “aimed at Asian people,” including one about “Korean whorehouses.” The comedian told TMZ that many of these jokes were actually included in his 2020 Netflix.

A spokesperson for Hyde-Smith told Politico that Schneider’s set was “gross and vulgar,” adding: “She didn’t have to listen to it and so she got up and left.”

Senate Working Group executive director James Kimmey was reportedly the one who cut Schneider’s set short. The organization allegedly sent the following email to the event’s 150 attendees: “While we do our best to ensure every aspect of our program is professional, courteous and appropriate, we sincerely regret that the entertainment at last night’s program fell short of that goal.”

A representative for the Senate Working Group told Politico that Schneider “disregarded a verbal agreement he’d made with Kimmey to keep his set relatively clean.”

Schneider told TMZ that he made $50,000 from the gig.

I don't need Politco to tell me that Rob Schneider isn't funny.

Sure, but not funny even to the audience that watched Gutfeld? That seems like a low bar to clear. Though it seems like the profanity was what did it?
